Political tension mounts in Rumania, there is a demonstration of solidarity for Czechoslovakia.
GV Massed crowds in main square in Bucharest in a demonstration of solidarity for the Czechoslovak people. MS Crowd chanting and clapping hands, they hold pro-Ceausescu banners. VS Nicolae Ceausescu comes out onto balcony of government building and raises his hands to the crowds. With him are members of Communist Central Committee. GV High angle looking down on mass of heads, good shot. VS Ceausescu delivering speech to mass, he gets plenty of feeling into his words. VS Mr Paul Niculescu-Mizil steps forward and reads the Communique to the crowds about the Rumanian talks. VS Mr Ceausescu back at the microphone delivering a strong speech on the future of Rumania and the Czechoslovak position. VS Plenty of crowds, silent, clapping, cheering, etc.

The entrace of the 5 socialist countries into the cehoslovacia, means, a huge mistake, and a huge threat, for the peace in europe, for the socialism in world
He is basically saying that Romania and the Romanian Communist Party fully condemns the military invasion of Czechoslovakia by other socialist countries. The invasion of a socialist country by other socialist countries represents a great mistake that will threaten the peace in Europe. That there is no justification for even having an idea of a military invasion of a socialist country. That the communist people of Czechoslovakia supports totally the Czechoslovakian Communist Party. The construction of socialism belongs solely to the party and the nation it belongs and that nobody has the right to tell other countries how to build socialism and the only way to truly build Marxist-Leninism is to forever put an end to the meddling of other socialist countries in the affairs of a nation (USSR, hint, hint).
After the speech there was a great fear that the USSR might invade Romania (there were reports that the USSR troops were amassing at the borders with Romania) and though Ceausescu dialed down the anti-USSR stance in the following weeks, he remained true to his goal of Romania building it's own way separate from the USSR.
For whatever better he did and later for ill, he took Romania down his own path with the 80's being the worst.
This speech still remains his greatest and every Romanian, to this day, is happy we didn't participate in the invasion.

Totul orchestrat, habar n`aveau aia de ce se aplauda. Se aplauda dupa indicatiile sefului de grup. Erau oamenii racolati de prin intreprinderi si fabrici, adusi in fata balconului si obligati sa aplaude la comanda. O mana de oameni controlau totul, de la ce discurs sa tina prostalaul cu 4 clase si ce leafa si drepturi sa aibe cetateanul de rand. Securitatea inca conduce, controleaza si jefuieste Romania mai ceva ca pe vremea comunismului. De ce credeti ca l-au executat asa rapid? Stia ce se intampla si erau murdari si complice toti securistii. Toti copiii securisti sunt la butoane si la contracte cu statul si cu fondurile europene. Romania este capusata si ramane capusata in continuare sub iluzia democratiei. Vorba aia: ultimul stinge lumina.
Ba ei aveau idee.Tu insa nu ai idee ce vorbesti, insiri propaganda post comunista. Insa istoria e deja scrisa. Era sfarsitul anilor 60. Era doctrinei Brejnev. Nimeni nu misca in front, nimeni. Romania a iesit si condamnat URSS pentru invazia din Cehoslovacia! Si datorita relatiilor de politica extrena inteligenta - cu China in mod special- am scapat sa avem aceeasi soarta ca Cehoslovacia. Da, Romania a fost o putere regionala care s-a opus URSS. E istorie.
La discursul ăsta, aplauzele și uralele au fost sincere. Un moment de mândrie națională pentru fiecare român.
