Here's my thought: maybe really do the base out of resin with glas in it, and instead of clear resin use silver or some kind of light color that will let the glass shine and not cover it up.

While I don't know if you're going to read this, I wanted to say thank you for this project. This year has been hard on everyone, myself included, and the idea that something broken can come together to form a whole piece is uplifting. While I know I'm not alone in this sentiment, I've lost an important family member this year, and my Mom and I have bonded through watching your videos to help work through the loss. Somehow, you inspired her, a 52 year old Stroke Survivor with use of only one of her arms, and not even the one she used to write with, to start painting again. Thank you, Peter. You've been a bright star in a sea of darkness. Happy Holidays, and cannot wait for the next video.

i worked as a silicone mold maker for fire surrounds. it was a great job working with silicone glass fibre metal work and finishing . you should vacuum your silicone mix to get rid of air bubbles. the silicone is the thing you need to be most accurate with. and using a release agent on your silicone helps maintain the silicones integrity. turned out well . good job!

My mom passed away from an 8 year battle with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2013. I had her ashes made into a glass pendant. I wore it on a chain around my neck where she was close to my heart. My niece was holding it when I was pushing her in a cart as a toddler and she gave a yank and broke the chain and the loop on the pendant broke. I have been in search of a glass blower/artist to repair it ever since and no one would try. This gave me an idea! 💡 It could be cast in resin and form a new loop! I know no one thats works such wonders with resin other than you!

Your patience just amazes me, painstakingly placing hundreds of tiny pieces of glass, stone, or whatever, depending on the project (glass, in this case). Your patience, and willingness to try new, different and difficult things always pays off in the end though. This turned out beautifully. Can't wait to see the lamp that goes with this. Merry Christmas.

I have a grand opening this weekend for my Atelier. Long story short, I wanted a mirror wall so I ordered a peice of glass with the intention of spraying it with mirror paint and mounting it. Well it was 90 pounds and the size of a wall. We got it in the elevator and up to our floor. As my husband and cousin stepped off the elevator it literally combusted unprovoked (probably from the quick change in temp. There have been soo many obstacles to get hear but I decided to make something of the shattered peices. Thats how I found this video. Blessings to you.

Amazing video as always, thank you Peter.
If you want to play further, you might take a cue from the stained glass folks. They will build a form (usually an internal for a lampshade), get it sanded and sealed, then mark the pattern for the glass. Then you cover the mold in what is called tacky wax. Perhaps not surprisingly, this is a wax which can be painted on when melted, and then sets and remains tacky. You stick the glass bits on just as you did with the blue tape. When you get everything fitted and working where you want it, add resin. With stained glass you can do all of your tack soldering on the form, then pull the shade off and fully solder the joints in.

  • @DannyBeans

I made something similar with coffee beans once, and found it helped to put a thin coat of white glue into the mold first. Once it dries, it's just strong enough to keep the pieces from moving around when you put the resin down, and cleans off of the final product pretty easily.

This is the perfect Christmas Gift. Thank you for posting a video and especially this one. The broken tempered glass lamp was an idea had back in college but I couldn't come up with a way to execute it. Resin wasn't as common a craft medium as it is now. This more or less fulfilled a dream.
