Tech is moving too fast to worry about Quest 2 users.... That's what happens when you buy a product in a space that is constantly changing, the device you buy today, will be outdated very soon..... It sucks for Quest 2 buyers, but is better for overall market.

Releasing games on only one set is crazy , you’re basically making one device rule them all and they control the market , and are free to make good games or bad and if they have no competition they become trash , look at what happened to madden and 2k basketball , no competition made those games become trash

I agree too especially the games that can be released on quest 3 means can be released on PCVR/PSVR2 as well. It's always costs for these devs that prevents them from re-optimizing for other platforms as i heard it's a lot of work and costs.

Quest 3 does stand alone and pcvr much better than quest 2. The difference between the headsets is extreme. I’d highly recommend the upgrade to you. Your pcvr experience is suffering big time.

      @@Thegooob95No it is not.
Your acting like the quest 2 is garbage all of a sudden.
Games you were enjoying before now suddenly you won't enjoy simply because the Q3 has better graphics (only just in some games).
      What garbage.
The Q2 is still excellent and not worth upgrading if your already enjoying it.
No need to buy a new headset for £690 to £730 simply for a slightly better graphical experience.

      @Thegooob95 26 дней назад

@@user-xi3mj3mx4j I wasn’t talking about enjoyment factor I was taking about the difference between the technical ability (resolution) when using quest games optimizer on the quest 3. To say there’s not a radical difference between the headsets is wrong but most don’t know that because they aren’t utilizing QGO.
Quest 2 with the optimizer falls short of quest 3, the headroom is massive. The difference is massive. The experience is massive, but only when using the optimizer.
Base quest 3 is hardly different than base quest 2.

That's pretty much Valves M.O. but I get what you're saying. IMO they could have (at minimum) simply financially helped out VR developers to get things moving, like Sony and Meta have done the last five years. (no one single company can maintain, let alone sustain VR forever imo)
They chose to hoard their billions instead, despite the fact it wouldn't have hurt their bottom line in any way that mattered.
It really seems (at times) like they barely give a crap about VR, but it's also hard to tell cause it's Valve and they pretty much do whatever they want.

If there is going to be a cross platform or multi platform vr game, I think less of a downgrade would be beneficial to the consumer as well as allowing the developers to put out better, more full content.

Nothing in stand alone is a patch on HL Alyx or Resident evil 4 Remake. But with the increase of graphical power of the quest 3 I hope we do get that level of graphical fidelity and immersion. And that is if the price stays that way.
As tech gets more advanced so does the price factoring inflation too.
So next models will more than likely be dearer.
      That's how business works!
Also the improvements do not justify the jump in costs.

I wonder if Meta paid these developers to make the games Quest 3 exclusive? The main reasons to make something Quest 3 exclusive are MR and hand tracking (the Quest 3 is so much better than the Quest 2 on those aspects that you can't really compromise). Graphics fidelity can be downgraded, and while I understand why developers wouldn't *want* to downgrade the graphics, the Quest 2 market share is still miles ahead of the Quest 3, so making a Quest 3 exclusive is basically taking 80% of your potential audience and telling them to bugger off, which doesn't make sense economically, particularly when you're talking huge IPs like Alien and Batman. It really only makes sense if Meta came along and said "look, here's $15m, don't make a downgraded version for Quest 2, because we want people to upgrade to the Quest 3".

I am unbelievably excited for the exclusivity. Quest 2 was simply not powerful enough to run proper AAA games with somewhat decent visuals that weren't just hard to look at. With Quest 3, you now have the baseline of where Standalone should be to attract the masses, and we're now at the point where the visuals shouldn't get in the way or be absolutely unappealing to the millions of flat-screen gamers who are going to view these games at the Game Awards, for example. It will help massively with growing the VR market, and I fully believe VR will soon be able to get close to PlayStation sales numbers. Now that Quest 3 is somewhat close to a PC in performance (at least a lower spec one), and with the launch of Quest Lite as well as the MANY AAA VR games already announced for 2024 (Behemoth, Batman, Alien, Metro, and more), we should slowly be seeing a lot of people coming into VR and taking it seriously as a market. I would assume it's *mostly* up to the developers at this point, on whether to make the game playable only on the Q3 vs Q2. There are still tons more Quest 2 owners at this point, so they will have to decide if they want to take advantage of the broader user base (of Q2 and Q3) vs trying to maximize the Q3 hardware for the best game possible. I think for the moment, only the really intense/big name titles need to worry about it. Most of the games I have, a small reduction in graphics or performance to make it playable on both devices, wouldn't affect my experience too much. It might just depend on the type of game for now that dictates what developers will do.

My opinion: the Quest2 has been sold by the millions, for a great deal due to the pandemic. But now millions of those buyers don't use it. Making games for Quest3 only makes sense to me. It will help people buy one. For me to buy newer hardware was because the old one was not sufficient enough. I used to buy a new laptop every two years, selling the old one on eBay. Now my laptop is over four years old and for what I use it it's still good. No incentive hardware wise to buy a new one. All the specs and improvements of the Quest3 were enough for me to get one. But at the moment there's no other headset that I want. So, slowly showing the difference between Q2 and Q3 by excluding the Q2 for certain games, is not such a bad thing.

All is working great with the Quest 3 and seems META is favoring doing more for the Quest 3 at this time.
The Quest 2 is a nice headset, but I feel it is on the last road into the Sunset far as new games and support. I have seen too many products in electronics get drop kicked because of something newer that came along.
Who knows, maybe something from META will be better than the Quest 3 in the near future. That is Technology. Companies are always striving for better products to entice people to buy them and retire the older products. We can’t have it both ways. You have a very loud contingent screaming that quest has held back vr gaming or it ruined it. The q3 to q2 jump is a decent enough bump that if the game keeps the q2 in mind then it could hold back what can be done in the game. At the same time you have ppl wailing that meta is just being evil in making them upgrade. We are still too early in the tech where we get fairly steep jumps in performance/capabilities so support will fall off faster that some would like.

It probably will happen eventually just as it does now between playstation and PC, as many people just will never buy a good computer to play pcvr and many people will never buy a console to play console vr.

I don't like most standalone quest games because to be honest they look like ass. Now combine the quest 3 virtual desktop and a steam library and you have gold. I do believe though quest is ahead of other standalone headsets with usability and price. The graphics will come in time. As we see how often phone hardware jumps each year the quest hardware will also. We just have to wait.
