First and foremost I feel really bad for Rachel Zegler, because I think a large part of the backlash toward her is because she was unfortunate enough to be cast in a Disney live action remake, which a lot of people are sick of and see as "woke" rebrands. But I do understand some of the complaints people have with her-publicly bashing the original film, which was monumental when it came out and deserves a lot of respect even with its more outdated moments, is not a great look. And commenting that her co-star's scenes could all get cut mostly really reads as disrespectful, and I don't really understand justifying the cutting of a love story. That being said, I initially was looking forward to see her take on the role because of her West Side Story performance, but I think she's made some simple mistakes that all young people do and is unfortunately in the public eye and has had those statements--and her person--ripped to shreds.
I think also disney is forcing them to say the "girl boss and not like other princesses" brand and then they throw them under the bus. She is such a good actress and singer. Also lets be honest, her costumes and how the designes look is not doing them favors.
Part of me does feel bad for her but the other part of me recognizes that Hollywood is really trying to move away from the old school "you can say whatever you want and have a bad attitude if you're famous" vibe. Like, it very much used to be a thing that famous actors and directors were hard to work with but nowadays people get called out for that type of thing. I don't think anything she did was ~that~ bad but I do think she needed a bit of a reality check and a reminder you still have to be kind if you're famous. Also, it's Disney, which has always been very concerned about its brand and the conduct of the people they hire, so I'm not surprised.
@@arex9000 THIS. It’s like they cast diverse actors to use them as shields against criticism. I’ll never understand why people attack the actors to defend a huge media conglomerate that’s actively destroying cinema.
I’m honestly so curious how they stage Cabaret on Broadway because the August Wilson is a much larger theatre than the Playhouse so they’re gonna have to change the immersive staging of the show.
I feel like people need to be kinder in general to performers, especially Rachel Zegler. Who wouldn’t want to play an iconic Disney princess like Snow White. She didn’t like the film as a kid, but neither did I! It was terrifying, but I love it now and I think it’s the most beautiful Disney film. Rachel also didn’t write the script or do anything related to the plot except act it out. It was not her choice for Snow White to be saved by the prince. I just can’t imagine the things she’s going through knowing that a population of people hate her. That’s gotta be an awful feeling. I wish people would realize how awful that must be and really open their eyes and question if we really should be attacking her about this. If you dont have anything nice to say, just don’t say anything. You can disagree with me if you dont like her, but consider putting yourself in her shoes.
For me, I always loved Snow White since I was little. And it hasn’t aged too badly. Do I oppose Rachael playing her? No I don’t. I loved her as Maria in West Side Story
I feel like what Zegler said wasn’t even that controversial when you look at it in context. Hell, a lot of the things that people have brought up to prove why she’s “unlikable”, such as her demanding an invite to the 2022 Oscars, have been completely misconstrued. Those Oscars were very limited people wise because of the global panini, and Rachel was living in England shooting Snow White at the time. All she did was, in response to someone asking what she’d wear to the Oscars, was to say she’d be wearing pajamas and sitting on her boyfriend’s couch watching the show. That was all. The press were the ones who made it a big deal because she was the LEAD ACTRESS in a movie nominated for BEST PICTURE and it didn’t look good for the Oscars to invite much of the rest of the cast, but not Rachel.
I’m not saying that she deserves the venom being aimed her way, but maybe bad mouthing the IP for the movie that you are making is not a great marketing strategy.

I saw the recent Watermill Theatre (famous for the UK production of Amelié and the early 2000s UK production of Sweeney Todd) production of Lord of the Rings and it was such a beautiful show. The way they used the small size of the theatre to really immerse the audience in the show was amazing, I also loved how the scenes set within the Shire were done in the gardens outside of the theatre. One thing the Watermill’s productions are famous for is how, due to the small size of the theatre, they have the actors playing the instruments themselves and, honestly, it really added to the folksy vibe of the show and it’s music.
So do I! I’m overdue to revisit Wicked on stage before next holiday season. Joseph I never imagined myself being a fan of and I really hope it’s casted good

Next, Rachael Zegler as Snow White is something I don’t oppose at all. And with the delay until 2025, I hope her Vs Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen is worth the long wait. I saw Joseph at La Mirada Theater this past summer. It shattered my expectations! It was quite a surprise to me Jon M Chu has signed on to direct. Hey, Kat! If you're looking for a new cast album to listen to, I'd highly recommend the concept album for the musical Bright Lights Big City. It's based on one of my favorite books and one of my favorite movies (which starred Michael J. Fox and his now-wife Tracy Pollan), and it has a whole host of big names like Patrick Wilson, Jesse L. Martin, Sherie Rene Scott, Gavin Creel, and Celia Keenan-Bolger. I'd describe the sound as Next to Normal meets Bare: A Pop Opera meets Jonathan Larsen's general sound, and it is incredible! I'd also recommend reading the book and watching the movie because all three pieces of media are just so underrated, and not really talked about anymore. I mean, the musical only had two major productions that I know of (the New York premiere/workshop and the U.K. premiere), but it did have two concerts at 54/Below with pretty big names such as Jennifer Damaino and Christy Altomare, and the rights are available for companies to perform on Concord Theatricals. P.S. You'd make an incredible Vicky :).
The fact I never considered Lord of the Rings only has one ring until you pointed it out is going to haunt me now lol. I'm excited for the Wicked movie, outside drama aside. It's one of my favorite musicals, so I'm excited to see how well it fairs on the big screen, but I admit to still being a bit antsy, mostly from too many adaptations failing so spectacularly. I had no idea about the Joseph movie. I'm not opposed to seeing it, but...yeah, I'm not sure how to feel on that one honestly. I have no issue with Rachel Zegler being Snow White, her talent is undeniable, but to be honest I'm not the biggest fan of these Disney live action remakes, some are good and some just come across as pandering to me, so I was hesitant long before Snow White was even in the works.
“There’s only one ring”. Tell me you have never watched/read Lord of the Rings without telling me you have never watched/read Lord of the Rings. Having said that, really looking forward to Wicked. Just hoping they’re not going to take inspiration from the Les Miserables and Cats movies.
They couldn't possibly compete with the sheer chaos of the Joseph film that already exists. And that chaos is the only reason I enjoy it in the first place
I am PUMPED my dudes for how to dance in Ohio. I will be in center orchestra on November 15th seeing the first preview of the show and I have a feeling it will be my new favorite musical. I'm an autistic performer myself so I have been waiting a long time for something as amazing as this. I wish kat would have talked about it more but the other upcoming projects are pretty cool too
As a former Ethan Slater girlie I was just really disappointed b/c he pretty much ruined his career?? I cried cause he was like my first celebrity crush…
I am excited about the Wicked movie but I am hesitantly concerned about the fact that it will be in two parts. I feel like its such a well written musical as is that I'm worried they're going to hsve to add so much not as satisfying content to make each movie long enough or each movie is just going to be pretty short. Of course, there is a book so its not like they just have to invent source material, but I think just doing the show straight through might have been a better choice. And maybe thats too many songs too close together for a movie audience, that could be it. And I know they have to add a new song in order to qualify for an Oscar but i feel like they could do that and cut an existing song instead of making it two parts. I dont know, still excited to see it, i just really hope they dont ruin it lol
The Ariana and spongebob drama wouldnt have been bad if they were both seperated. The fact they went on double dates is creepy as f. As you said, i hope it doesnt effect the wicked movie and cast/staff.
Did you get to see 'Some Like It Hot' on Broadway yet? I saw the show recently and had a great time! I loved the music, singing, dancing, costumes, and wit! ...I did dislike how they changed the ending from the original movie to make it more 'sensitive' to today's audiences-but not enough to ruin the show for me.
@@runninggal86 Come out on too? What do you mean? If you meant to ask if it's coming out on streaming, I'm sure it will, but it's been suggested by fans that that would not happen until the tour is finally complete (in order to maintain her sales for the actual concert). And if that's true, the tour isn't completing until sometime in 2024. So that's a long wait.
@@manuelorozco7760 Nice! Anna's got a good voice but I'm not sure if she could belt out the notes required for something like Defying Gravity. She might be able to but only knowing her singing from Pitch Perfect films I'm not so sure. I'm not familiar with Dove Cameron though so I can't comment on that. For me personally, my ideal would have been an animated version instead of live action, then they could use Adele Dazeem (Or Michelle Lea if she had a better working reputation) and I would say Kristin Chenoweth (Who I am fan of) for the original paring but I genuinely prefer Ally Mauzy in the role :)
Im sure it will be fine but i despise Ariana as Glinda. Also over Rachel as Snow White, no thank you. But thats more to do with im so over these souless live remakes.
I am so stoked for Wicked. Ariana Grande isn't my first choice for Galinda, but I'm relieved it's not Lea Michele. I am happy to see that Broadway is still going strong, and the Mean Girls movie musical looks promising. All we need now is an agreement between the SAG and the studios.
The Boebert story was huge for me, as a performer at the DCPA. I’ve performed at the Ellie Caukins next door, and I’ve seen shows at the Buell. Their Ushers are NO JOKE. Some of the sweetest, loveliest FOH people, but they take their rules seriously and they WILL drag your butt outside with no hesitation. Also it wasn’t just vaping and illegal filming, but possibly some more inappropriate activities. So it was both karmic justice and more evidence that she needs to be voted out. I’m not in her district, otherwise I’d be voting her out myself.
Personally I feel what’s wrong with it is there’s no truth, heart, or love in the musicals, tv shows, and particularly movies that are being released. That’s what I’m trying to bring with the musicals i’m writing.
As far as why they are doing a movie of Joesph and the technicolor dream coat, I ask that question of MANY musicals that become movies. A lot of them seem like such random choices, not based on popularity or whether the work is truly cinematic. More like they just pick a title and say okay let’s film that one.
I don’t get drawn to screen adaptations too often. I stopped after Mamma Mia until the Prom, West Side Story 2021, 13, In the Heights and Tick Tick Boom came along. As for Joseph, I’m surprised it’s in the works and I hope they do it right.
right?? I’m convinced it’s gotta be that algorithmic software that can determine if a movie with ~X factors accounted for~ will be a hit (Or out-of-touch execs coming to the same conclusion) Musical adaptions look great on paper …… not always up on the screen 🙃🥲

I think the only option is to go absolutely full chaos mode
I am PUMPED my dudes for how to dance in Ohio. I will be in center orchestra on November 15th seeing the first preview of the show and I have a feeling it will be my new favorite musical. I'm an autistic performer myself so I have been waiting a long time for something as amazing as this. I wish kat would have talked about it more but the other upcoming projects are pretty cool too
I have autism too
As a former Ethan Slater girlie I was just really disappointed b/c he pretty much ruined his career??
I was quite surprised by the decision to split into two parts myself
I would love to see them cut Sentimental Man, but they probably won't.
@@chadmeredith1198 If they do cut it it won’t be a big deal. But Goldblum has to nail Wonderful at least
SHE'S BBBBBBAAAAAAACCCCCKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD I MISSED YOU AND YOUR VIDEOS!!!!!!!!!!
I’m so sad about some like it hots closing announcement! would love to hear your thoughts on it
The Ariana and spongebob drama wouldnt have been bad if they were both seperated. The fact they went on double dates is creepy as f. As you said, i hope it doesnt effect the wicked movie and cast/staff.
I was happy for them when they were cast. I’m not scared what will happen now yet.
@@manuelorozco7760I think it will go away eventually but the memes will come back when glinda and boq are on screen....the irony
@@arex9000 It won’t surprise me if you’re right. I’m used to it once in a while these days
I’m so over Taylor Swift tbh.
No her music is amazing
Also the cabaret west end revival ?
I love Joseph tbh I’m excited for the movie, I did not know they were doing that
such a year for taylor i love it
Did you get to see 'Some Like It Hot' on Broadway yet?
I saw the show recently and had a great time! I loved the music, singing, dancing, costumes, and wit!
...I did dislike how they changed the ending from the original movie to make it more 'sensitive' to today's audiences-but not enough to ruin the show for me.
Gatsby gearing up to be Wild Party 2.0 huh
Can... can we go back to the cult instead of Cats trafficking??? I dont need another cat, especially one of _those_ cats...
Are they still whitewashing Fiyero? The character assassination of Fiyero from the book to the musical was heartbreaking for me.
What show is he from?
@@marlonmoncrieffe0728 Wicked, the book version of Fiyero isn't white.
Can you please do a video about The Mad Ones?!
not Mr. Ariana Grande 🤣
You haven't seen the Eras Tour Movie yet? You gotta get on that, girl! It's only open for one more weekend in theaters!
Does it come out on too
@@runninggal86 Come out on too? What do you mean? If you meant to ask if it's coming out on streaming, I'm sure it will, but it's been suggested by fans that that would not happen until the tour is finally complete (in order to maintain her sales for the actual concert). And if that's true, the tour isn't completing until sometime in 2024. So that's a long wait.
The Taylor Swift Movie was AMAZING! Have you had a chance to go to the Eras Tour?
Of course Tim’s fiancé is getting the vinyl
Joseph? 🤷♀️ also Pete Davidson x Patty lapon is iconic
Personally I would have prefered Donna Vivino and Ally Mauzy for Wicked, but I'll give these girls a go :)
I initially imagined Anna Kendrick as Elphaba and Dove Cameron as Glinda
@@thatdrewrivers I would go for Lea if Glee didn’t become the Rachael Show after Season 1. Which is why I stopped watching after Season 3
She also got kicked out for playing with her boyfriends thing if yk

omg i need to see spamalot so bad
Ahh I missed you
Pete Davidson and Patti LuPone! Plz be so serious Kat 😂
Im sure it will be fine but i despise Ariana as Glinda. Also over Rachel as Snow White, no thank you. But thats more to do with im so over these souless live remakes.
Whoa!
Thank you for saying Halle’s name right
Scooter Braun also lost a Wickedly talented client... named Idina Menzel
I thought mean girls was coming out January

MR. ARIANA GRANDE JAJAJAJAJAUA
I would have wanted Lea if Glee didn’t turn into the Rachael Show. I’m debating about the Mean Girls movie musical.
Nobody needs another Joseph
They kinda already did a Joseph ATATD in 1999, and it was okay. I agree, not needed.
It was good but it doesn’t do the thrill of seeing Joseph in a live theater justice
You and I have different definitions of "making out" ... Or maybe we just heard different versions of the Beetlejuice story.
Taran Killam!!
Personally I feel what’s wrong with it is there’s no truth, heart, or love in the musicals, tv shows, and particularly movies that are being released. That’s what I’m trying to bring with the musicals i’m writing.
Do share the musicals you are doing! And I agree completely
🕺🕺🕺
As far as why they are doing a movie of Joesph and the technicolor dream coat, I ask that question of MANY musicals that become movies. A lot of them seem like such random choices, not based on popularity or whether the work is truly cinematic. More like they just pick a title and say okay let’s film that one.
I don’t get drawn to screen adaptations too often. I stopped after Mamma Mia until the Prom, West Side Story 2021, 13, In the Heights and Tick Tick Boom came along. As for Joseph, I’m surprised it’s in the works and I hope they do it right.
right?? I’m convinced it’s gotta be that algorithmic software that can determine if a movie with ~X factors accounted for~ will be a hit
(Or out-of-touch execs coming to the same conclusion)
Musical adaptions look great on paper …… not always up on the screen 🙃🥲
@@Kath_Steele Don’t remind me because Hollywood executives these days are just greedy nincompoops.

I wish the Waitress movie was showing internationally. I would love to see it but it is only having a 5 day run in USA theatres.
I don’t know where you are but it’s playing in Canada also! Might be worth looking into your local theatres because Canadian dates were not publicized, my local theatre newsletter told me lol.

“Lord of the Ring. There’s one ring.” 😂
