Season 8 isn't amazing, in fact I'd say its by far the weakest season of the show ahd it abandoned a lot of stuff that season 7 had been exploring, but it's still got plenty of good stuff in it, and the final stretch of episodes is genuinely one of the best parts of the entire show. Except for the finale itself, which WAS good in its own right, but kind of a letdown after the 4 episodes preceeding it.
God, the camerawork in this is fucking phenomenal. That one continuous shot of Walter, which slowly rotates around and panning back and forth between the two chairs, as members of House's team and House himself replace each other.
I love this serial investigation by Dr. Cofield. Truly astonishing to watch. He is reckless. He is insane. He lies. He tells the truth when the patient is dying. He believes in the underlying cause. Yes, sometimes bad things happen, but if the truth is the basis on the diagnosis, the patient is saved. From his patients, I usually see that the patients lie, or there is something nobody knows at the time, therefore needs some more digging. Which is where Wilson comes in. I believe, that many Dr. House episodes are far more frightening than the vast majority of horror films. Why? Because those diseases exist, and while they may be extremely rare and not always portrayed perfectly accurately in the show, you can still contract them, and it is far more likely than being chased by a serial murderer with a chainsaw (unless you live in Florida or some place like that). Here comes the true kicker; had you contracted a disease rare enough to appear on the show in a non-clinic-duty scene, the odds of your survival are not looking so hot. If you have the misfortune of living in the US, you may live through the disease, but the bills are sure to get you. If you live in an overpopulated not-so-well-developed country (which the case for literally the majority of the world's population, as India and China greatly contribute to this), the likelihood of an exotic disease goes up, and your odds go down, significantly, because doctors are unlikely to have enough education, experience, and most importantly the time to figure out what's wrong with you, and the medicine may simply to be available to you. If this is not an absolutely terrifying prospect to you, then we disagree on what a horror is about.
