  • www.XeroShoes.com -- This is one of the simplest barefoot running sandal tying styles. We call it the Xero Basic. It's the one we use on most of our custom-made Tarahumara huaraches-style minimalist sandals.
    In this video, you'll see a 1st person view of how to tie your sandals, but without your foot in the picture.
    If you're into barefoot running, and you've tried Vibram Five Fingers or Nike Free, you have got to check out Xero Shoes. They're way "more barefoot" than any other minimalist running shoes, and have a 5,000 mile warranty, and cost 1/4 - 1/8 the price of other barefoot shoes

    I made a $4 pair of huaraches out of half-price Lands End flip flops and two 5 foot lengths of paracord from Michael's. This tying method has worked great for just walking. Tomorrow I'll see how it is to run in them.

    It is two half hitches, but it's called a Larks Head Knot, also known as the Hero's knot if it's made out of a loop of webbing/cord/rope instead.

    Girth Hitch is what we called it in the USN.

    I was having problems getting the lace comfortable ie not too tight but not too loose. I have just bought 10 m of 3mm round elastic and just retreaded my 6mm DIY sandals using the same tying style. Feels more comfortable not 100% ie not as comfortable as my Xtrails or Ztrails but persevering as like the DIY creative element. I tie them off at the ankle rather than bring back up and through the knot on the top of the foot. Good point of communication with walkers and friends thanks like your sandals.

    Thinking of buying a pair of these, my first ever pair of barefoot shoes! Although I’m about 8 years late watching this video lol I’m wondering if anyone can let me know how to attach or tie the toe strap to lock it in? Don’t understand how it can be done without creating an uncomfortable knot bulge at the bottom. Trying to acquire the most information possible before this purchase. I don’t want to invest money into barefoots actual everyday or hiking shoes until I try a very simple, basic product and I don’t think I’ll find a better option than these. Thank you in advance!

      There's a video about making the lowest profile "lock" -- ruclips.net/video/mw6F3rMrj50/видео.html
      BTW, even if you used the figure-8 knot (and flattened it a bit), there's no "uncomfortable bulge" since the knot is between your 1st and 2nd toe, in front of the webbing between them... in other words, you don't step on it.

    I call that a cow hitch or a ring hitch. There are different common names, but in the Ashley Book of Knots it's #5. It's also #56, #59, #244, #1184, #1673, #1694, #1698, #1700, #1802, #2163, #2164, #2168, #2175, and #3317.

    Thank you for the info, great vid. I’m sure I’ll be watching this one many times. 😊 also I call this knot a slip stitch.

    do you all reccomend burning the tip of the rope on the bottom side of the shoe (the end of the rope that hits the ground)?

    • @xeroshoes
      @xeroshoes  Год назад

      Burning the material will cause it to harden as well as flatten out, so it will be more discreet on the underside of your foot and more durable/ less likely to fray or unravel. We do offer toe loops that will use a hard disc on the bottom of the sandals, which would allow you to avoid using and melting the laces. You can find those here: xeroshoes.com/shop/extras/toe-loop/

    Where can I purchase replacement laces for the Genesis? Can't seem to find them anywhere. I'd like them in solid black when/if available directly from XeroShoes.

      If you go to xeroshoes.com/make, you can find them all, in order.
      Sadly, YT doesn't arrange things in the proper order automatically.
