Seattle native here and Lightning fan for nearly 25 years. (Don't ask). The moment I heard we were getting a team and I looked up the draft rules, I immediately called it.... "We are drafting Tyler Johnson from Tampa!" He's from the Pacific Northwest and has big ties here still. I lit up when I saw you picked him!!!
Yup TJ Oshie is from Everett, WA just north of Seattle (and home to the WHL's Silvertips). The speculation of him joining the Kraken is justified. It's be a great PR move with the local boy coming home hype. Tyler Johnson is from Spokane, WA (and also played junior for the WHL Chiefs). Same local boy pride going on there. We're pretty stoked about what our Kraken roster is gonna look like here in Seattle.
Also, they could make a deal with Seattle in order to keep both. GMs saying they won't make deals is just silly, almost every team will lose a fairly big player unless they make a deal. I don't think it is impossible that Seattle will end up with either A) a better starting roster than VGK, or B) a really solid amount of prospects and picks
Murray and Jarry are both free agents after this season. Most likely, Murray will go elsewhere as a free agent, Jarry will be resigned and will have De Smith as a backup. I like the Tyler Johnson pick. Besides being a really good player he is from Spokane (4 hours East of Seattle near Idaho) and played for their WHL team the Chiefs who play against Seattle’s team. So that will help unite both the East and West team. I’m from Spokane. My current team is Vegas because of the flashy shows before the games and how they’ve made the whole game a experience. I also have two teams for football if ones on T.V I cheer for them, when they play each other hope for a good game with no injuries and cheer against the team in black and white.
I'm not from Seattle but I live in the PNW and am a fan of all the Seattle teams. I have been a Colorado fan since they came into the league but will be moving to the Kraken next season. It's a weird feeling for sure, especially with the Avs kicking ass right now.
I’m not from Seattle but I was born in Oregon however lived in the Pittsburgh area for 10 years and adopted the Penguins as my team part way through high school. I moved back to Oregon in 2018 and I’ll likely adopt the Kraken as a second favorite. Pens will forever be number one but I’m so pumped for hockey to reach this corner of the US (aside from Vancouver) and so I have to support this new team! I’ll likely grab some Kraken gear, possibly a jersey depending on players (the jerseys are NICE so it’ll be hard not to snag one)
I live in Seattle but am a Blackhawks fan. Don't think I'd ever change allegiances, Chicago's my hometown. I'd root for the Kraken any other time besides a game against the Blackhawks!
I live on an island off the coast of state, close to Seattle, but I grew up in the upper peninsula of MI, will always be a Redwings fan, nothing compares to the original six
They might but I feel like there's going to be more proven goalies available, like the ones listed in the video. But you never know I guess. Maybe they know somthing we dont
From Seattle, long-time Canucks fan -- definitely will be rooting for both teams (why does it have to be one or the other?) and cannot wait for the first playoff matchup between them.
Born and raised in Seattle, as a Toronto Maple Leaf fan. I'm all in on the Kraken, but if they ended up head to head in the playoffs, it would be a rough series to watch.
Rutted Panda So then born in Washington... but FROM Warroad. He grew up in Warroad and played hockey in Warroad his whole life before college and the NHL. He’s from Warroad. This North Shore Storm character should do some fact checking before he posts pointless and false claims.
I was wondering can teams make a deal With the Golden Knights to take players they want to keep and then trade them back after the expansion draft. Maybe getting a draft pick or player in return.
I understand the reason for the rules of an expansion; you want that team to be competitive immediately. With that being said, does anyone believe there should be some changes to the rules?
Do you have a video as to why you are a Red Wings fan? For me it's because I was born and raised in Detroit and only eventually moved slightly outside of Detroit. There was no way I couldn't be a Wings fan in the 90's and later hockey in my high school was bigger than HS football in the white suburb town that we eventually annexed to. Your accent, particularly your R's sound very Canadian but I wouldn't place it as Ontario. If you're west Canada or newfie, why Red Wings? Other than having excellent judgement, any personal life connections?
I'm not from Seattle nor do I plan on going there, but I was looking to follow another team, just so I have more Hockey to watch and starting from day 1 with a brand new roster/history is very exiting. I didn't really like Vegas' branding so I never really was interested by them. But I love the branding for the Kraken and hopefully they'll make a team entertaining to watch. I'll still watch my "main" team (Habs) but also cheer for Seattle. To be honest theirs no reason to only like 1 team. It's like a movie, you don't have to only like 1 character/actor you can like multiple ones or having multiple teams you hate. I doubt most people only hate 1 team. It's also nice to have a second team to be able to watch if your main team is having a terrible time or not entertaining anymore. So you can always count on being able to watch decent hockey if one team sucks (Big F if both of team sucks). Not to mention that Seattle's games will most likely be after Montreal's games so I'll still be able to watch them both most nights.
Chi protects Toews Kane Saad Strome Debrincat Nylander Sikura (if he plays well) Murphy Keith Carlsson (he a good defender a possible pick for Seattle if unprotected) (Ik Seabrook has his NMC, but I can see him waiving, Seabrook has nothing to worry about Seattle won't take his contract)
The Cap Friendly "Quick Protect" option did not protect for me: McDavid, Draisaitl, Rantanen and Matthews... WTF! Also did not protect Slavin, Heiskanen, Larkin, Drouin, Keller, Dubois, Beauvillier and Pageau. Quite realistic :)
I think they will come in as a fringe playoff team, but definitely nothing like Vegas. The goaltending options look solid, but they aren't Marc-Andre Fleury, and it would be just as big of a surprise for Seattle as it was for Vegas if the skaters show large improvement.
its way to early for this. we have no idea what trades and contract extensions will happen next year. we don't know how many people will have a falling out with their teams management. We have no idea how many players are suddenly going to slump and become available... or catch fire and become protected.
Markstrom, Jarry two of my Favourite Goaltenders. Would hate to see both of them not in their respective teams but then there will be a reason for me to like Seattle
This Roller Coaster Life Stamkos, Kuch, Point, Palat, Cirelli and Killorn (Lower cap and better term) Will be protected ahead of Johnson. Plus Barre-Boulet is projected to become a Top-6 so yeah, Johnson is gone for sure.
@@KalleJon10 The extent of player management that I have been paying attention to these many years involves players age, position, and their impact on the team and how those effects their value. I have never payed attention to the financial aspect that NHL teams deal with. I understand what you said, but have never trained myself to look at it that way. Now that we are getting an NHL team, I guess I should learn how finance drives teams to make changes.
If you read the full list of rules, NTC players have to be protected and can not be drafted due to having, surprise, the NTC. TJ won't be leaving Washington. He signed an 8 year to stay in DC and DC will most likely want to keep him. I think Hagelin will be selected tbh.
What happened to the good old days when expansion teams were just happy to be in the nhl? Now they have to be given a .500- playoff team out of the gate? It was ridiculous when Vgk got to the sc and my caps kept them from the cup and it will be ridiculous with sea.
WA native, grew up watching the Canucks, became a VGK fan a couple years ago. Seattle will be my #1 team, but I'll still root for VAN and VGK. Hating "rival" teams with no prior history or context is dumb and a waste of negative energy.
I doubt they would take Ho-Sang. Mostly because one or both of Jordan Eberle and Josh Bailey will not be protected, so I doubt they would pass on them for a guy that has not proved a thing in the NHL and has really bad attitude issues. Sure, he has very high offensive upside, but I don’t think they would take him over other players that will be available.
There is no chance Benning prefers Demko. He's said his #1 priority is getting Marky signed. He wants 6 mill, Nucks were at 5 ish, other than that no other issues we're reported. Demko, I think gets moved if he breaks out we trade him, if he's still just a backup if we lose him that sucks but we have some really good prospects in net that line up better with Markys age.
I live in Seattle and was a Canucks fan and loved then during their Stanley Cup run years. Since the Sedins retired and they have been rebuilding, it’s been easy to lose interest in them for me so the timing of hockey coming to Seattle couldn’t have been more perfect.
Im just wondering why the rangers would protect lundqvist instead of georgiev. Lundqvist is very old and i dont think they would take him if we didnt protect him
As a Canucks fan I would protect markstrom over demko demko with his concussion injuries and rough patches throught the season I dunno if he's better than alot of the backups out there
As a Canucks fan I think they are going to protect markstrom because he the more established goalie of the two, but the kraken may not take demko because there are more valuable goalies out there like Murray and Jake Allen
Like you said, i'm not sure Compher will be available. And if he is Tyson Jost will likely be available as well, and I can see Seattle taking him instead because of his upside.
I would think that the Caps would protect Oshie over some other players, for example: Holtby, Gudas, or even Dillon. Surprising you chose Oshie instead, good list tho👍
Pittsburgh is going to protect Jarry guaranteed
They will he’s my favorite player I’ve wanted him in net since flurry left if he leaves the pens will not win another game cuz of Murray

Seattle born & raised. Kings fan my whole life, not too difficult to be a little more excited for a home team around this time ;)
From Seattle. Definitely an immediate fan
TJ Oshie is from Minnesota bro
It's just so cool to see a new team
I live on an island off the coast of state, close to Seattle, but I grew up in the upper peninsula of MI, will always be a Redwings fan, nothing compares to the original six
Wello again sorry I took a break from visiting your channel but it’s still good as usual
(Thx for the heart Ik it’s gone bc I edited the comment)
Excited for Seattle to take Jack Campbell from the leafs 😂
They might but I feel like there's going to be more proven goalies available, like the ones listed in the video. But you never know I guess. Maybe they know somthing we dont
From Seattle, long-time Canucks fan -- definitely will be rooting for both teams (why does it have to be one or the other?) and cannot wait for the first playoff matchup between them.
Knew you were a fellow Maritimer when you said "heart". Great video, subscribed.
Kerfoot is a potential 50 point player? Have you seen him play?
Born and raised in Seattle, as a Toronto Maple Leaf fan. I'm all in on the Kraken, but if they ended up head to head in the playoffs, it would be a rough series to watch.
FINALLY SOMEONE KNOWS THERE STUFF. OSHIE IS NOT FROM WARROAD HES FROM WASHINGTON.
Their*
How do you explain him playing high school hockey in Warroad, MN then?
@@ruttedpanda7884 that's literally what happened
@@SubstanceP888 when you're that good at hockey you can see it at a young age. He isnt gonna grow up and play in washington
Rutted Panda So then born in Washington... but FROM Warroad. He grew up in Warroad and played hockey in Warroad his whole life before college and the NHL. He’s from Warroad. This North Shore Storm character should do some fact checking before he posts pointless and false claims.
I'm very excited to see this team and I hope which team have the same success as the Vegas Golden knights. Say hello to Brazil!!!!!
I was wondering can teams make a deal
With the Golden Knights to take players they want to keep and then trade them back after the expansion draft.
You think the Flyers would not protect a puck moving defenseman with speed and a relatively cheap deal. No way Gostisbehere is available.
Chi protects
Toews
Kane
Saad
Strome
Debrincat
Nylander
Sikura (if he plays well)
Murphy
Keith
Carlsson (he a good defender a possible pick for Seattle if unprotected)
(Ik Seabrook has his NMC, but I can see him waiving, Seabrook has nothing to worry about Seattle won't take his contract)
Great name, great logo, great jersey!
That James Neal and Vegas comment...? Perhaps you're thinking of Engelland.
Are people really speculating that TJ Oshie would be available? That's crazy.
They're probably going to pick Raanta as their starter from Arizona.
Yeah im fucken pissed
That injury prone mess?
@@lanesimonson375 still creates a good tandem with Kuemper
Woah, had no idea you are from Halifax. Me too! Go Moose!
As a Sabres fan, seeing Colin Miller play for yet another expansion team that would be pretty funny lol
So they leave Hampus Lindholm unprotected and you dont pick him?
Dude, the thing left Pasta unprotected for Boston 😂 i tired to make it realistic tho, so I only went with guys I don’t think teams will protect
@@OhNyquist They might need to work on their unprotected list then =)
Markstrom, Jarry two of my Favourite Goaltenders. Would hate to see both of them not in their respective teams but then there will be a reason for me to like Seattle
There's a 99.9 chance both are protected. It wont happen.
cant watch your videos without immediately turning playback speed to x2 lmao
Oshie and Holtby going?
Big fan of Seattle so far
TJ Oshie is from Warroad, MN
Me, a Bruins fan who absolutely loves and adores Anders Bjork (*Mariah Carey voice*): "I can't read, suddenly. I don't know." 😂😭
No way the Bolts don't protect Johnny, but as a Chiefs fan, I would love for him to come back "home".
So not taking anyone from buffalo?
What happened to the good old days when expansion teams were just happy to be in the nhl? Now they have to be given a .500- playoff team out of the gate? It was ridiculous when Vgk got to the sc and my caps kept them from the cup and it will be ridiculous with sea.
WA native, grew up watching the Canucks, became a VGK fan a couple years ago. Seattle will be my #1 team, but I'll still root for VAN and VGK. Hating "rival" teams with no prior history or context is dumb and a waste of negative energy.
Pick 1. Abdelkader
Pick 2. DDK
Pick 3. Frans Nielsen
Done !
As a lightning fan I would be sad if we lost Johnson I’d rather loose Killorn
Lundqvist is very old and i dont think they would take him if we didnt protect him
Keep in mind the auto protect will auto protect diff players for the most part each time you do it.
Keep up the great hockey content 🔥🔥🔥
Would love if they took Colin miller.hes a good player, good character but we don't need that many defensemen.plus save money.its a win win
I am from Seattle and I like the Capitals but I’m not sure which I am going to like better
Surprised you didn’t go with Antti Raanta in net tbh
Kraken will be my first NHL team
bringing both washington boys home in oshie and tyler johnson u love to see it
Really hope we get Johnson and Spurgeon. FYI, Tyler Johnson is from Spokane (East side of Washington State), so it would be a homecoming for him too.
Colin Miller? Has a player ever played for two expansion teams at inauguration?
I would think that the Caps would protect Oshie over some other players, for example: Holtby, Gudas, or even Dillon. Surprising you chose Oshie instead, good list tho👍
They win have holt by after this year that is next year holtby is a f/a with rumored suitors
