I hope season 2 is better and covers more than season 1. I was very disappointed in that season. It felt very rushed. Some of the characters were not given proper flaws. Without them, how will they grow. Also, I wish they’d shown when Aang burned Katara. It was the first time he really realized he had to take his role seriously, abd maybe more importantly for down the line, it caused him to have a fear of using fire which becomes more of a story layer.
I really hope the second season is longer and shows some character development, not that it matters much cuz unlike in the original, we don’t get a great deal of character flaws. In the original, Sokka learns to be less misogynistic but the LA took that away for some reason. Also, they crammed so much into ten episodes they didn’t leave a lot of room for character development. Hope the second and third seasons are longer and give the plot lines/character development time to breath
I, personally, hope that there will be some differences, compared to the original series: 1-Yue's fate. Since she's a beloved character and is her father's only heir, I'd prefer they find a way to keep her from dying. 2-The end of Yon Rha. Since he killed Katara and Sokka's mother, I wish he would die. If Katara really won't/can't kill him, I'd like Sokka to at least do it. Or they could make Yon Rha kill himself. 3-Ozai's defeat. Given his evilness and the fact that he is the main antagonist of the series, I hope he'll be killed too, this time.
I really hope none of those things happen tho 1. Yue's death had a significant impact on Sokka's character arc, being the spark that helped him overcome his misogyny (which they really did a bad job of highlighting in season 1 of the live action) and his need to protect those that he loves. If Yue lived, he'd be a lot more reckless than he is in the later parts of the series, which might have led to more deaths. 2. Katara sparing Yon Rha's life was the climax of her character arc. She's hot-tempered, angry, and emotional (again, which the live action did a bad job of highlighting so far), and sparing the one person she wanted to kill the most shows how she matured as a person throughout the journey, and learned to let go of what was done and not let it hurt her. (Besides, there are some fates worse than death, and Yon Rha basically being a slave to his abusive mother probably fits) 3. The whole dilemma with whether to kill the Fire Lord or not was a huge struggle for Aang, who was trying to compromise both his own moral compass and his duty as the Avatar. He wouldn't have been wrong to kill the Fire Lord, but waiting and finding that third option to take Ozai's bending is a callback to Bumi's teaching to Aang about Jing - there's positive Jing when fighting / attacking, negative Jing when retreating, and neutral Jing when doing nothing. If Aang went and fought and killed Ozai, he'd be seriously hurting a core part of his identity as an air nomad, which would likely scar him forever. If Aang retreated and didn't fight Ozai, the whole world would have been up in flames. But by waiting for the right opportunity to strike, using information he couldn't have learned until the last minute, he was able to both put an end to the Fire Lord's tyrrany for good while also staying true to his heritage, an outcome good for everyone. (Also Zuko kinda needed him to find his mother)
