    I'd already enjoyed some of your other videos...and usually, stuff like this, I pass on. So glad I didn't! Great presentation Nora!! I'm not looking to be a full time Digital Nomad, but would love to add in some more travel which I'm still able to work. I've been a remote worker since 2008 and have used that status to allow for trips within the US. As Lexpix mentions below...How is it you don't have more subs? RUclips algorithm stinks sometimes. I've never heard of Bansko but because my father was from Bulgaria and I've heard that it's such a beautiful (and affordable) country and the people are known to be friendly, I've long wanted to visit it. I'd hoped to do it with my father, who wished to visit the country of his birth and early years, but sadly he didn't make it, so I now feel especially determined to make it there. Not as a "nomad" as I don't think that life is really for me (I like to travel but otherwise prefer to stay put being kind of a homebody, although vanlife seems kind of intriguing as you're traveling in your home), but also not as a typical tourist checking off the typical sites you're supposed to visit.
    So, not really relevant to the content of this video, but it's in Bulgaria so that's the connection for me. 😄

    And as for internet security, although I always use a VPN when I use public WiFi, whether it's in a hotel, cafe, library or airport, I always first try to use my carrier's cellular data connection, if possible, which is already secured by the carrier and generally much faster and more reliable.
    Of course this isn't always possible depending on where you're traveling, or incurs very high roaming fees. But when I can, I always try to use cellular data first, and if I'm using a laptop or tablet to tether it to my phone so they're secured as well (although I have security software on all my devices).
    I wonder why people still rarely mention cellular data, especially these days when 5G is fast, reliable and widely available, and usually refer to WiFi when discussing being connected away from home. Is it force of habit, going back to when cellular data was expensive, slow and unreliable, or is it because fast and affordable cellular data is still not that common, especially abroad?

    • @NoraDunn
      @NoraDunn  10 месяцев назад +1

      What a great point! Indeed, cellular data is getting cheaper and more plentiful by the day. This presentation is also a few years old, so data wasn't quite as prolific at the time.
      And if a person's work requires a large bandwidth, it might not make sense to work on data versus WiFi. But for most people, data will be the most secure way to browse.

    • @kovie9162
      @kovie9162 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@NoraDunn Good points, I didn't realize the video is a bit dated in this respect, sorry about that. Also, cellular data can be expensive with some carriers and plans, too slow depending on where you are, or comes with data limits that don't work for some people. But when you can afford it and it's fast, it's ideal IMO.
      I had "unlimited" overseas data that I used on a recent trip, and it was really fast and reliable, until I hit the 5GB limit that I forgot about, at which point it slowed down to a 1995-era 128kbs, which is slower than most modems from the AOL era (and I didn't even get to meet Meg Ryan!). Thankfully this happened on the last day of my trip, so it wasn't a big deal, but it was really annoying.
      It's not yet the perfect solution, but cellular data is a good fallback if reliable and fast WiFi isn't available and you really need to connect, and for those who qualify for and can afford plans that offer it at 4G or 5G speeds and with reasonable data limits (that don't throttle past some ridiculously low GB threshold), and tend to be in areas where it's available, I highly recommend looking into it, especially as hotspots.
      Last thing, cellular tends to be way cheaper abroad, and finding affordable plans that offer tons of fast data is often quite simple and easy and just require a SIM swap, and with many newer phones having the ability to hold 2 SIMs or eSIM, it's easier still. Just make sure that it's compatible with your phone and that the phone is unlocked.

    • @NoraDunn
      @NoraDunn  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@kovie9162 I am ALL about the data eSIMs for cellular data abroad! I'm currently loving Airalo's global data plan: 20gb that lasts for 365 days, for only $69! No matter where I land I know I'm connected immediately. airalo.pxf.io/k0kYed
