This is a really neat program! It seems like the builders appreciate the opportunity to make such a large contribution in such a short period of time. Not to mention the value to the new homeowners!
Spoken like a true ignorant liberal all these people write all this stuff off their taxes all the taxes on the new house of prorated 10 years in the down payment most of the habitat for cilities anything good that comes off the truck is stolen the amount of money value that habitat takes in sometimes $5,000 per day per store as a token amount didn't compared to the homes that they build they ought tot building one hundred times the homes that they do

I'm just saying if you ever are able to do Habitat for Humanity do it! Don't even second guess. It's so much fun to not only build the house but k ow your doing so much good to the community.

To all the supporters of Habitat for Humanity, please be aware that HfH does not help the people they claim to help. They claim to help the poor to get houses but they don't actually help the poor, they help the upper class poor and middle class. I didn't qualify for help because my disability income is $3,000 UNDER their requirement for the program yet I was able to go out, take out a traditional mortgage for $59,900 WITHOUT a cosigner. I don't know if it's nationwide but I do know Habitat for Humanity in North Carolina doesnt care about the actual poor. They give houses to people who are more than capable of getting traditional mortgages on $50,000-$120,000 houses (that's for 1 individual). And when my house was actually repairable, I applied to Habitat for Humanity's house repair program and was once again DENIED BECAUSE I MAKE TOO LITTLE MONEY. Now my house is not repairable and I'm fighting for my life and there's not a single government or non-government organization that will help me. I have checked with all foundations and charities and non-profits that could help me and they have all denied me help. I have checked with churches, with bussinesses and they have denied me help. Too many people donate to Habitat for Humanity to help people that don't need help nearly as bad as others. So please, don't help habitat for humanity in your state if the minimum required income for 1 person is at least $14,000 because someone who makes that is capable of getting a house with out help from an organization.
Try instead donating to people like me that fall through the cracks. I won't survive the coming months unless I can rebuilt a house and all I need is 15,000 people to donate one dollar so I can buy the lumber, metal roof, house wrap, insulation, drywall and windows to build the shell of a house and allow me to breathe clean air while I raise money to put up interior walls, flooring, kitchen, bathroom etc. www.gofundme.com/rottinghouse
I bought my house so I could increase my ability to help people and animals. Sucks that the house didn't show the black mold or rot before the closing or I would have chosen a different house that would have allowed me to be a foster mom, help homeless veterans, train affordable and free service dogs for those who really need them, and provide hospice care for rescue dogs.
If you choose not to help me, please at least do your research before you help organizations since a lot of them lie.
I am homeless with 4 kids and all H4H said to me was "we give a hand up not a hand out," like I'm some sort of bum because I only get $770 a month from SSI and am disabled. They don't give a shit! They don't tell you that you'll have to meet the minimum income requirements of $30k a year and have to be "middle class" to even qualify. The truly poor?? Living in the back of our vehicles in the cold because we're not "rich enough" for a Habitat house!!!! Yet they act like they're god damn saints and do so much to help people fight poverty! What a joke!!!
Houses cost a ton of money. Why don't you try renting? A lot of Habitats actually have rental properties as well for people who can't afford a brand new house yet. Habitat builds houses for people who can afford a zero interest mortgage.
If they build houses for people who can't afford them, they don't get to build houses anymore.
Habitat is a total joke.

buenas vivo en Panamá como tengo 49 años he tratado de tener un techo para mi pero los banco no dan apoyo si no tienes un trabajo fijo. y he tenido que vivir en casa en casa. por no quedar en la calle. cual son los requisito necesitó un techo no muy grande solo de una recámara como un pequeño empuje hasta conseguir me un medio de entrada fijo. gracias

I don't know what state you live in Peter. But in NC, our habitat for humanity does NOT do great things. They claim to help the poor but they actually don't. They help people that are perfectly capable of buying a used house with a traditional mortgage. Money can't buy happiness but it can save lives that are turned away from Habitat for Humanity for not meeting the MINIMUM REQUIRED INCOME limits so anyone who donates to HfH do your research on your specific one and if their minimum required income is more than $13,000 I recommend sending your money to a homeless shelter or an organization that actually helps poverty level poor individuals with housing. Not being mean, just a friendly FYI so no one wastes their money.
Habitat started with a good mission and over the years it has become very much not the original mission. Now it's all about money and propaganda.
one question... Why spent all the donated money building a house for 1 family when you can use those mone to build an apartment carrying 50+ families ?.... Appreciate your response if you ever see this message.

A 3 story masonry apartment building with twelve 861 sqft units would cost roughly $9.4M according to fixr. That's roughly $909 a square vs $117 a square for residential construction. So by building houses, Habitat can help 40 people get a 2,000 sqft house for the total cost of 12 apartments.
These guys/gals are looking to help families trying to help themselves. It's not a free lunch. The houses aren't luxury homes, and these people work for what they get. It's a professional organization that's looking to maximize their impact in the community. These are the good guys, and they're doing good.
They say they're helping their community because... Habitat helps the community, so by helping habitat, they help the community. Vets with disabilities, the elderly, kids, and women looking to get into the field. It's a great place for the unskilled to learn from pros, the pros to learn from each other, and families to step up instead of putting a hand out.
I completelly agree! Habitat for Humanity says they help the poor but they do NOT. At least not in NC. I'm ranked poverty level poor and they denied me a house. It took me a lot of legwork but I ended up being able to get a house with a traditional mortgage all by myself and I am 3k under the required minimum income for 1 person. So Johnny, you are right, if habitat for humanity was actually interested in helping people, they'd help those UNDER the income limits and do apartments in addition to a few single family homes or town houses (some people have needs that make it so they can't live in an apartment).

One of my neighbours also owns a habitat house but they rent it out to a bunch of random people. The owners haven't been there for years... which is against the habitat contract but habitat doesn't care because they're still getting money.
