My 6 year old boy has accidents at home, school, everywhere. He fights going to the bathroom every time you ask him, saying he doesn't have to go. He'll then proceed to pee his pants and not even notice. He'll sit in it for hours if not noticed. If he's starting to poop, most of the time he'll recognize it and run to the bathroom, but not every time. Sometimes he'll just ignore it like it didn't even happen, and when you bring it to his attention, every time he says "I'm sorry, I'll never do it again", but he might do it again 2 hours later. As a parent it's extremely frustrating, and embarrassing because it happens almost daily in his kindergarten class. We've tried everything.
I understand. I would recommend joining a workshop where you'll feel supported. Our online community can also help with tips. www.marybarbera.com/workshops
We have been working on potty training since July with zero success at home, but he has gone at daycare (both pee and poop) a handful of times since August.I will say that for the last 2 months he has refused at daycare and stopped showing interest so they no longer take him 🤦🏻♀️. One thing that is difficult is in other videos you say you shouldn’t have “false starts” but then here you say it’s ok to only work on potty training in short intervals for a few hours here and there. Which is it? Is it not considered a false start if I try at home with him for a few hours, with no success, and then he goes to daycare and I can’t try again until that evening? If I can’t get daycare to take him during the day, I’m limited to the periods I’m with him which is mornings, evenings and weekends. As an aside, I’ve found my son is very interested in the videos in the “SeeMeGoPotty” app. I plan to show them to him the next time he’s sitting on the potty.
I’ve been in potty training hell for almost 2 years. We started with pull ups and the moment I moved to underwear, we regressed, and we have been rotating both options for about 3-4 months now. It has been hell. It’s like we get a win and we have a 100 losses for every win. Pee is okay, he will pee on himself at home sometimes, but poop has been a disaster because he is so inconsistent. And he’s over the reinforcement, which was plain M&Ms which he loves but now he can care less. Potty training hell.
I'm sorry to hear that it's not going well! It's difficult for me to give specific advice here without knowing your child better (how old, current skills, etc.), but I would highly encourage you to consider joining my online course and community, where you'd have access to much more detailed potty training steps based on your child's specific needs + access to my team and I for support to make this process go MUCH more smoothly for you. My son started to get the idea of sitting on the toilet (without anything) he sits on the toilets like to wash his hands. I can’t wait for him to start pottying. Its kinda hard to get his cues of when he’s peeing.
Thank you so much for the video! How do you feel about teaching boys to stand to pee and sit to poo? Or do you thinking sitting for both is easier to grasp for the kiddos?
Our 4 year old is non verbal he is very fearful of the toilet he also requires help putting clothes on and off, he can barely walk it seems like we have no idea where to start or if we should stress about it
I would consult his pediatrician first, as they can direct you to needed resources. I also have materials you can check out here: MaryBarbera.com/links-yt
So my son is 4. If i ask him to use the potty he'll say no thank you. If you put him on the potty he will drop his pants twiddle his thumbs, wipe, flush, without ever using the potty, wash his hands and then say "all done". He does this at preschool too.
