  • Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi dropped by the Acquired studio for an Eats delivery, so we broke out the cameras and asked him to hang out for a wide-ranging conversation. :) We talk about his 20 years working with Barry Diller, starting his career at Allen & Company, how the Uber CEO search process ACTUALLY went down… and oh yeah, the massive transformation that’s happened at Uber over the past few years. When Dara took over the company it was bleeding huge sums of cash, losing share to competitors and embroiled in one of the biggest corporate controversies in recent memory. Fast forward to today and it’s turned cashflow positive while also having tripled revenue to over $30B (on $120B in GMV) and solidified its rideshare dominance in the US. And in perhaps the biggest change, it’s done it all while staying out of the headlines. Tune in!

    Softball questions. Interviewers should have talked to drivers before doing this interview.

    This was such a great episode. Love the set up, love seeing you guys and love even more such a sensible and down to earth hard working professional that Dara is. Humble, sensible and intelligent, he seems to be a great leader and has proven it by doubling Uber market cap in the last 12 months or so. Keep the videos coming guys!

    This gets better and better. “The cost of labor goes up…” yet all us old time drivers (8+ years) are SCREAMING they - uber and lyft - are paying us less and less!!! And yet cost of running car and life is more and more. So where Dara is the difference going?!??? This is UNBELIEVABLE that he gets away with sayinf sh*t like this

    As a shareholder, it is scary when he says Uber doesn't control the pricing. Instead all they do is aggregate the supply and demand sides. Does that mean during tougher economic times, when supply increases and prices go down, since they don't set the price, their revenue goes down on those transactions as opposed to the same transactions during better times ?

      yea so people and the regulators have nothing to complain about than over supply by the regulators to stay out of the court system

    Their Company model will not succeeded base on how they operate, being Care less For Customers after they make their Profits on Delivery drivers and drivers that are the main base of this business, its only going to continue Drawing, over the years they keep exploiting Customers with their high prices, lawsuits after lawsuits by Drivers, And not being able to operate in other countries and citys it tells you everything, there's no transparency on how they operate, its seems like its working but in Reality its not, time will tell...

    Improving market pricing by 5% a year. This means people that the AI bought is seen how much you’re willing to pay for a ride, how little the driver is willing to take for a ride, and then then taking the huge difference and running with it again unbelievable that he’s talking about it from an angle like this, without even considering what it’s doing to the actual people who make him wealthy on the hour by hour minute by minute basis

  • @HolliCMcCormick1

    We have to do it in a more efficient way… However, that doesn’t include the fact that it’s becoming less and less efficient for the actual person driving the car and making the money. Gas prices are becoming an efficient the cost of maintaining our car is becoming in efficient… So they’re only thinking about their efficiency. But of course they are only thinking about their efficiency while they screw the driver and allow the market to set the base rate at 36.5 for a ride. Down at least two dollars and $.50 since I started driving pay years ago. That’s how they’re becoming more efficient by saving off money that goes to the people actually doing the work instead of theorizing about the work. Give me a break.

    “We actually if you ask our top economist at Uber don’t control the price at all..”
    I cannot stop hysterically laughing at this comment. How does he get away with this BS that is so blatantly a lie!?!?

    • @idleoutcaster
      @idleoutcaster 17 дней назад

      It’s not a lie. That Surge on your map is representing an area where no drivers are. If the drivers talk and agree to go away from the area, only to come back after it surges, how is Uber controlling that?

    • @HolliCMcCormick1
      @HolliCMcCormick1 12 дней назад

      @@idleoutcaster so then why when two drivers sit next to each other are their surge maps completely different? If it was demand driven, then they would be the same. Every time. Also turn your passenger app on and see if what you say is true. No other drivers in area…i guarantee its not that.
