Personally, I love all these shows. But one big complaint I have with Foster home for imaginary friends is Bloo. He is so selfish and mean to everyone, even to friend Mac. He was ok in the first season but as show would progress he gets so bad that I wish Mac would’ve left him. And even with that I doubt he’ll be upset. Now I get what the creator wanted to do with him by making the conflict in most episodes, but not to the point of making him so hateable that even Rigby from regular show looks like a saint compared to him. What makes characters like Rick from Rick and morty or Bojack Horseman great examples of lovable jerks is that yeah they’re jerks but we learn so much about them and given so much layers that it’s pretty hard for me to hate them but instead makes me love and care for them as characters. Bloo is just a jerk for no reason, even when people help him he can be ungrateful. But other than that it’s a good show, could’ve been a masterpiece if it wasn’t for Bloo.

With the Fairly Oddparents, you'd have a hard time finding a major character that wasn't extremely Flanderized. In early episodes, Wanda was a little smarter than Cosmo but was still "half of a whole idiot", Timmy's parents were dense but they still cared about his well-being, and Vicky was evil, but she still feared getting caught/ blamed. In later seasons, Cosmo (somehow) got dumber and more childish, Wanda became the "nag", Timmy's parents wouldn't care if Timmy died right in front of them, and Vicky controlled her parents with an iron fist.

I agree! It stunk that Timmy’s parents became just more and more neglectful I didn’t care about them really much anymore. I hated that even Vicky‘s parents were afraid of her why she never went to jail permanently is beyond me, but the show probably would’ve ended if that happened. I honestly missed Cosmo and Wanda wanting to have fun together instead of Wanda constantly being a nag and Cosmo becoming more and more stupid. I felt really bad that Timmy became more selfish, but despite those things rubbed me the wrong way. I still watch the show for a long time but lost interest mostly after Wishology.

There were many shows that suffered a huge dip in quality due to the absence of their creators, like the aforementioned SpongeBob. But Fairly OddParents is very different, as it is an example of how a show's reputation can largely be ruined even with its creator still on board. Comparing the creators of SpongeBob and FOP especially during their modern era, it seemed like Butch Hartman only cared about his own ego than his audiences. I had a thought about the Seymour Skinner one. I think in hindsight, the whole reason that episode existed WAS to parody horribly ret-conned characters in shows where they’ve previously been established as characters.
Think about it, this was after they essentially created the term of “Flanderization” before it was even called that by derailing Flanders character. They were probably already getting feedback for that even then before the internet age, and even though they’ve got the phrase coined in the late 2000’s, flanderization was a thing before the Simpsons(one famous example being the Fonz from Happy Days, another being Steve Urkel in Family matters, although that one worked out better for the show in its case).
As exaggerated as they go with thoroughly removing the character we’ve seen play out on screen for several years up to that point, to the point of almost total erasure of identity (I mean he was a dutiful son to an abusive mother, kind of ridiculous she wouldn’t notice or that he would continue the charade with her for very long instead of just breaking the relationship and not having to do any of that) then basically looking the viewer in the eye and saying “Well nothing changes and everything goes back to how it was and the rest-con was a stupid pointless misadventure for the sake of more episode” it shows in my mind that this information was intentionally disregarded in order to make a joke on how shows will thrash established characters and then keep going on without ever really addressing these changes, acting as if they never happened or things were always like that.
In that context, I think it’s hilarious, and was so ahead of its time(because mind you, Flanderization wasn’t a term back then so there wasn’t necessarily a name put to this trend other than “jumping the shark”, making it difficult to put to name what they were even spoofing). I think the translation between audience and show-runner was lost here, and people took it in the more negative way while the creators didn’t take into account it could end up mattering so much to people. After all, Skinner, although not necessarily a background character, probably seemed inconsequential enough to make him the subject for this joke. It’s not exactly like they were selling as much Skinner merch as they were The Simpson family, Crusty the clown, or even Apu, who was kind of a cultural icon(making the decision to remove him 30 years later even more brain dead and tone-deaf).
This joke would probably play out a lot better now a days where we are more attuned to meta jokes and commentary. It would almost be cliche at this point, but at least even if people didn’t like the joke or how they decided to make it, they would know that there was an intent behind it besides “let’s just needlessly ret-con fake-out people for the sake of adding dumb lore to Skinner’s character.

He acted like a second father to Spongebob like when he lost his confidence because he messed up on Bubble Bass' order, he was also like a second father to Patrick, often teaching life lessons and while he argued with Squidward at times, he still cared about him. He was also a cheap but well intentioned father to his daughter Pearl. His rivalry with Plankton was made for comedic effect and not seriously as say that certain episode.

One that bothered me was character change of Ash Ketchum in Pokémon BW. For two previous series and three regions, Ash was portrayed as experienced, albeit with still some childish tendencies, but his experiences and certain kind of maturity came especially out in comparison with his new travel companions, May and Dawn, who did all those rookie mistakes Ash did in the Original Series and often, it was Ash who corrected them. However, in BW, they reverted him back to his rookie, childish personality he had in OG, taking out all the character development he gained previously. And it didn't work. Even the creators realised that and in XY they tried to change his characterisation back to what it was in AG and DP, but the damage was already done ;-(
Another bothersome character change for me was the change of Takeru/T.K. in Digimon Tri. How could they change this loving, caring boy into an epithome of teen hormones, who will flirt with any girl he meets is still beyond me.

Remember when Lola Bunny became an actual funny character with a memorable personality when she was moved from Space Jam to the 2011's Looney Tunes show? Sure, it was once again ruined in the Space Jam sequel, but it was still a unique example of a poorly written character becoming a new fan favourite. Why can Scrappy Doo get this kind of treatment in a new adaptation? And I'm still hoping Flash Sentry will get a personality and character arch in Pony Life, but that's just a dream.

In fact it makes it so much more meaningful when he does good deeds with no ulterior motivations; he is sacrificing his own health just to redeem himself and help others. Putting Brian aside, Peter became a psychotic narcissist, Lois a cheating, shrill bully, Cleveland and Joe the butt of race/cripple-related jokes, Meg pretty much Quahog's whipping girl, and Stewie a flamboyant metrosexual with an obvious crush on Brian. There's more than that, but those are probably the most prominant examples in addition to Brian.

I think a lot of fan forget that Ben's a teenager not an adult, he's still a kid and to be honest his personality in the first 2 seasons of Alien Force was pretty bland and there was almost nothing left of his original personality, although this was justified given the story line with Max going missing and latter presumed dead and the imminent invasion, and Season 3 overcorrected this and made him insufferable at times but this also made sense as the kind of constant praise he was getting for saving the universe would go to anyone's head, especially a teenager, and the only time his reckless behaver endangered his team was when he overestimated his ability to control GhostFreak and even then his plan worked in the end as he was able to regain control. And after Alien Force, Ultimate Alien and Omniverse does a great job at balancing Ben's more cocky traits with his more serious ones, to quote the Omniverse theme song: "He's a kid and he wants to have fun, But when you need a superhero, he gets the job done!".

Since Nick tends to rely on popularity over good storytelling, if those shows continued for more seasons but replaced the original writers with those who are less familiar with them, those franchises would have had their popularity completely descend into nothingness to the point where people’s love for them has faded from existence.
