Stock markets are pulling back world wide. Interest rates are moving up, sentiment is turning negative, and recession may be coming. All luxury items will take a huge hit in this environment, the luxury watch market does not operate in a vacuum.
When everyone says something will not crash, most likely it will. Just like housing and stock market, history usually repeats itself. Just buy what you like and enjoy, don’t look at it as an investment and you won’t lose sleep over it.

Really? Somebody who can pay 250k for a plastic watch is worried about money for kids vacation? 😂 the prices are coming down because the watch market bubble is the biggest scam in the history. A watch that retailed for 30k is selling for 250k ? Come on, even rappers and oil rich Arabs are not that stupid!
The way the watches are treated, handled, and not even being put on a tray, would put me off ever buying anything from this dealer. (The lady at the end, gripping a fist full of watches, are you kidding me?)

Great video. Great insights on the current watch state. Now we wait and see what happens to world in next few months which includes stocks, homes, cars and watches. With markets turning I do not think this is just a “summer holiday” issues. As he mentioned the small dealers, flippers will be priced out of the market with dropping prices leaving some watches at the AD to purchase (Rolex).
Would love to see other watches that luxury souq, other brands that are good value for money
I take no joy in it (because people are going to lose jobs and businesses) - but agree. 8-12 months minimum. Probably more. War in UKR probably drags on; China zero Covid lockdowns (then looming real estate/debt bubble). Yen is losing value.
Unless US and EU restart money printing.

Who in their right mind would buy any watch on the grey market. I have looked at their prices and they are more expensive than the normal market.
The answer to “How many of these you find in the market?” is none as this very smart gentleman of LS has them all.

I believe that after the coronavirus restrictions, people are spending their money elsewhere. The Russian / Ukraine market was diverted which led to extra inventory availability. In any case, similarly to the stock, currency and cryptocurrencies markets, the prices cannot go up indefinitely. It's funny I have found that watches are more expensive in Dubai than in Europe (tax free).

This Arab dealer it seem is only hoarding those high-end limited edition so he can sale them at super inflated prices to those super rich buyers who can’t even get them from the AD with their profile, hence his market is niche and his assets is not effected by the soft watch market now. He kept saying where can you find this in the market - that says it all as this does not reflect on the current mass watch market.
This is where the big boyz play. He is right on point. The conditions affecting the market is correct. No major crash. All the free dollars that the gov’t was giving away is stopping. The interest rate is going up. China on lock down. Once this stabilize summer is over back at it again. Buy in a month or so. You cannot find watches still in the AD so he is right. G8 video content.

Buy a watch because you like it not because of the hype.
With all due respect, this guy does not understand basic economic. Market is going down, price of oil is going up, FED is raising interest rate and people are now saving money instead of spending them on luxury items, you need to understand consumer behavior and monetary policy which limits the money supply in the market. Prices will go down but now one knows by how much. But end users are not in place to go and spend their money on watches. They have important things to care about during crisis times. In the same time, supply of watches will increase and with less buyers prices will go down even further. 2022-2023 will be a very hard years.
Mostly agree. Although some industries will not be affected (unless it’s not a recession and goes to full depression in which case all bets are off) and there are always people advancing in their careers looking to reward themselves. But definitely not the crazy buying we’ve been seeing.
Grey prices will come down; not sure how much. I’m so disgusted with what they’ve done to the watch industry, even if they came down to 1 or 2k over MSRP for the sport models I’m interested in, still not sure I’d buy.

Luxury items and speculative assets(tech stocks, art, high end real estate, etc) thrive in a low interest environment. A high interest rate environment will tank all these assets, just take a look at FAANG stocks.

Well the GM is crashing here in the US. GM's aren't buying anymore hot watches and they already are slashing prices. What's crazier is that all those "hard to get" stainless steel sports model have magically popped up. Subs, Nautilus, Root beers, Royal Oaks, etc...
I think it will continue to crash especially when the Recession hits here in the US and if inflation hits 10%.
Yes the common man who can’t afford to hold on to watches and fly by night dealers are facing pressure and dumping it at cheaper prices. Then people with the real money will scoop them up. Very nice

but the price is just too crazy the 16500 panda there is a 200% premium over retail and they are still in production. I think max premium on these are around 60-100% is normal

The kind of watches he mostly deals in are not for the average or above average watch collector. These watches are for very rich people. The ultra rich watch collectors will always have money & so his target market is not much affected by global conditions in my opinion. If your net worth is $100,000,000 or $500,000,000 are you still going to buy the Richard Mille for $300,000? I think so.

The ultra rich are actually very affected by the US Fed's raising of interest rates and the subsequent drop in the stock market. The Fed is going to continue to raise interest rates this summer to stop inflation, and the stock market will continue to drop. The US is likely to enter a recession, and that will definitely affect the wealthy and the prices of these watches.

@@zgfvavw3037 So am I, a 50K rolex buyer is often an employee (i.e. doctor, lawyer, etc.), and generally aren't affected by interest rate increases unless they're a business owner. The ultra wealthy generally have most of the capital in the stock market in the companies they founded and are heavily affected by interest rates and market conditions. If you think a guy worth $100 million plus is thinking about buying a RM right now with the stock market taking a dive as interest rates go up, you're sorely mistaken.

There are only so many extremely wealthy individuals in the world who are willing to pay 5x's to 10x's over msrp for a watch from a non authorized dealer. The prices will eventually come down a bit, and then the people who overpaid who aren't wealthy will start to panic and sell their watches. The watch world will eventually run out of suckers.

Dubai is a different world though and not as affected as US, EU, CHN, JPN. Got back from my annual trip; so much wealth. Remember they provide financial services for their oil rich neighbors. Friends in real estate say prices at the high end still going up.

I’ll never forget a guy pulling up to a pawn shop in a land cruiser and pulling off his Rolex as entered the shop. It will happen again, dealers don’t want to buy and hold here, so they are offering less.
