  • Hello and welcome back. This time, we take a quick swing through my quite compact Tressy collection. I collected her and her terrific fashion sets for a year or two from 2017, but still have most of it on display. (Those boards of illustrations behind the collection are blow-ups of her American Character and Palitoy catalogues that I printed out and stuck onto foam boards!) Tressy was a fashion doll that was first created by American Character around 1963/64. Her unique feature was that ‘her hair grows!’ as you will see in the fabulous TV ads I added to the beginning of this video. (Note the first TV ad introducing her showed her wearing famous Mattel Barbie fashions!) You can also see the ads for her fantastic Hat Shoppe, her fashions, when she got new features such as bendable legs and a ‘magic makeup face’ in 1965, and her amazing ‘4 Room Apartment’ which is extremely rare today. Alas, Tressy was discontinued in the USA when the American Character company went bankrupt in 1968, but her growing hair feature lived on in other dolls, most notably Ideal’s Crissy and her family, (Ideal acquired the patent from American Character) and even Barbie and Francie with Growin’ Pretty Hair in 1970-72. Tressy herself also lived on for many years in other countries, including through the Regal Toy Company of Canada, Palitoy in the United Kingdom (where she was successfully sold throughout the 1970’s) and a Bella Tressy made and marketed by Societe Bella in France. You will also see some dolls, boxes and fashions from these other countries in my collection, though most of them are from the USA and the UK. I hope you enjoy this video and like, comment, share and subscribe to my channel, if you haven’t already!

I live in Canada and was lucky to find the Canadian version of Tressy manufactured by the Reliable Co. The hairdos shown in the commercials remind me of how my mom would set her hair. Love your collection!

Mom never told me about the hairspray. That explains so much confusion I had when she gave me hers.

Thanks for the commercials. I love the apartment - very smart set-up. That make-up feature most probably would have driven me insane because my hands were not made for these delicate things - even as a child.

Thanks so much! LOL I don't think many kids would have been able to handle it... I even got one of her makeup kits NRFP and I had so much trouble applying the cosmetics... she looked like a really tragic drag queen after a hard night! LOL 😂

was Tressy related to Tammy? they look the same in my head.

No, she was from a different company, but they were released around the same time. Tammy was from Ideal, who later bought the molds, dyes, trademarks and patents from Tressy's company American Character when they went bankrupt.
