He really seems like such a precious, tender-hearted person. I'm so happy he is getting the recognition he deserves. He said he had to stop acting because there were no roles for him as an Asian actor. Instead he moved to working behind the camera on stunts. He came back to acting after watching Crazy Rich Asians. I hope that meaningful storytelling opportunities keep growing for all kinds of people who are too often overlooked in this country. I think that breaking barriers through entertainment like this is ultimately going to be how our society becomes better for everyone. We are all humans, and sharing our stories is how we can learn and, most importantly, feel this fact.
@@jay-rq7fe Didn't exactly bring him back- but I think the real story is even better. Ke reached out to an agent friend to rep him once he made the decision to try to pursue acting again, just a couple weeks before the Daniels tried to look for him. Their producer Jonathan Wang said in an interview, if they had tried to find Ke before then, they most likely would've cast someone else in the role.
if he finally wins the Oscar, is going to be on of those iconic Oscar moments, and probably a standing ovation will happen as well... at this point, it's difficult to see anyone beating him at anything but BAFTA (they probably will go for Gleesom)... hopefully he sweeps the whole season... point is not only him, but he instantly becomes a symbol of how Hollywood ostracized POC and how little faith has in child actors (he was a complete scene-stealer in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and in The Goonies, and his charm is still intact and bulletproof despite being over 50)
I don't care that there are hard working English actors that deserve it bla bla bla. Awards are about a performance, not some legacy, or what is due. Ke Huy acted like 5 different characters and moved around like Jacky Chan. There is really nothing else this year that can compare to what he did.
Ke has been *killing it* at a lot of the various Critics Circle awards, and has gotten nominations at the Independent Spirit, Satellite, and Golden Globe Awards so far. Let's keep it going! Critics Choice, SAG-AFTRA, British Academy (BAFTA), and the Academy (Oscars): don't let us down and don't let him down! This man deserves the world!
His young film performances became iconic because he was that damn good. Talent is forever. So im glad he gets a chance to show his worth again. Im all in for the Age of Ke!
I’ve been a fan of him since the 80s and its been a delight to see his comeback. He is so authentic in his interviews and I hope to see more great performances in the future.
Ke Huy Quan made an amazing Short Round...and Data from The Goonies (one of my favorite movies from 1985, which was the year I was born). I'm glad he's back on the acting scene.
I've loved him when I was just a kid watching him as Short Round in Indiana Jones and now to see him get recognition for his performance in EEAAO is making me emotional and I'm going to bawl if he wins the Oscar!
tearing up watching this, he deserves the world!! so so so glad there are now more roles for asian actors especially for such amazing, meaningful, and moving characters and stories
Sharpe I’m tearing up at him winning the Gotham award. When this man wins the Oscar, I’m going to bawl. 2 months ago I’m gonna die from crying when he wins the Oscar
Such a beautiful film. I saw it more times in theater than I want to admit (not 16 ha), and I’ve since purchased it. Best film of the year, imho, with Banshees of Inisherin being a close second. Congrats Shortround!!!! :p
This guy's come a long way. The first time I learned of him was when he was Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Then he would be Data in The Goonies, one of my favorite films from the year 1985 (which was when I was born). I can't believe he's returned to acting. I had seen a clip from a film he was doing, and the film (which name I can't remember) had the feel of a Jackie Chan film.

Sorry, but it’s F-ING B.S. that Michelle Yeoh didn’t win the award for Best Leading Performance. That said, I’m so happy that Data won the award for Best Supporting Performance.

Can we just thank Daniels for finding Ke Huy Quan and cast him in this movie? They literally caused this.
They were looking for him?
@@soulserenade.kcn1992 one of the daniels saw a meme of ke when he was a kid, wondered where he was, found out he left acting and brought him back :)
🤔Caused ir? They created it. 😎 Bravo🧎🏿. It remains illuminating.

This is the comeback of comebacks(sorry Brendan). For real Short Round and Data are such icons. So happy for him. Oscar comes next!
