Thanks for the heart felt emotion about the fires this past summer Anna. It's almost inconceivable for people to grasp without having seen it and felt it. I'm glad you did get to see some of the beauty our state has to offer. Please come back and visit again some day. Woot woot!!
Yes it was really hard for both of us but I couldn’t help but feel terrible for everything that was being lost and all the firefighters going against that impossible weather. We loved sharing the realities of these wildfires to those that don’t usually see this stuff. Scary and sad! Glad you enjoyed the video though WOOT WOOT!
I agree 100%. Watching her reaction broke my heart and reminded me how I felt watching the favorite places of my state burn. The reaction was real and very much appreciated.
Please be prepared for high altitude. It's over 7000 feet on the rim and although it's only a 1.1 mile hike down a 600 foot drop, it's going to feel like ten miles coming back up Cleetwood Cove Trail. I know it because not only have I walked out several times, my husband used to pilot the boats on the tours out to Wizard Island, so he walked out 6 days a week, both directions. Bring sports drinks and the highest SPF sunscreen you can find; the air is generally pristine (unless we have fires, sadly) so getting sunburned is extremely easy - I got the worst one in my life while sitting on the dock of Wizard Island. 🥵 Other than that, I hope you get to do that soon! It's amazing up there! 🥰
That smoke gives me flashbacks of the evacuation last September. I live in Phoenix Oregon. I remember that day when I saw smoke coming from the east through my kitchen window, and then I started hearing the planes. They were flying over my house across the train tracks towards the side of the town where I-5 and highway 99 run though the middle. As they kept flying I realized that they were dumping water closer and closer to me as the smoke grew thicker from multiple directions. The power went out. Then the explosions started. Some of the neighbors were guessing it was electrical transformers, but it was propane tanks getting cooked in the encroaching flames. One explosion shook my house, rattling my sliding glass door, and vibrating through my feet to my head. We loaded up our dogs, important papers, computers, hygiene supplies, guns, and some extra clothes in the car as fast as we could, and headed out. On the way out I saw more police vehicles that I even knew existed in my area. We struggled to find a hotel for obvious reasons, and we also had to find a place to house the dogs. We found a kennel, but our car's transmission decided to quit after driving up that hilly area. We eventually got towed to the hotel before they wouldn't hold the room for us anymore because of demand. We were lucky. We stayed in that hotel for day after day not knowing if our home was still standing. We heard on the local news about evacuated houses being ransacked in the aftermath, but then the National Guard troops were blocking access into our neighborhood to keep people out so we couldn't go to see if our home was still there. The hardest part was not knowing. After a couple of weeks we were able to go back. Our house was THERE. The flames didn't cross the railroad tracks (for the most part) less than a quarter mile away. We were LUCKY. Our water is drinkable again, and we are rebuilding. We will RISE FROM THE ASHES!
I'm so grateful you and yours survived the Almeda Fire! I moved back home because my family lost 85% of our ranch. None of it was insured; premiums must wait when caring for several Special Needs young men, unfortunately. The only reason we didn't lose everything was because our neighbor and my nephew fought the fires with shovels and were able to point the helicopters in the right place to keep his grandmother's house standing. We lost 2 homes and a nearly century old barn that just had 19 tons of hay stacked in it the week before. We haven't had enough irrigation since to even try to bother growing any hay. As dry as it is this time already, I'm nervous about the next 6 months. Not sure how we're going to feed 3 horses & 6 goats next winter.
@@aprilmorris4588 I'm genuinely sorry to hear about your loss. It's humbling to hear about what others had lost during the fires. Like I said: We were LUCKY. I can only pray for your family to recover fully. God bless you.
You guys did a great job in showing my favorite lake. I'm lucky I live 40 miles south so I be there anytime. This is amazing for star gazing, clear pitch black sky. You ought to see this place in the winter with 20 feet of snow on the ground and that intense deep blue lake.
I'm so happy I found this video today! As a third-generation Oregonian AND a former employee of Crater Lake Lodge, I need to add some important info that I'm sure you didn't know. First because it's really important - alcohol is illegal on Cleetwood Trail and everywhere down at the lakeshore. I'm certain that law is so that stupid people don't pollute that gorgeous, pristine water. Plus and this is also important, at over 7,000 feet elevation, you do 🚫 not want to be drinking anything other than water or sports drinks, i.e. Gatorade, because although that trail is technically only 1.1 mile long, it's a 600 foot climb up that hillside, so what felt like 1.1 mile hike down now, at a *high* elevation feels like a ten mile hike back up! 🥵🤯 It took me a month to get acclimated to the elevation and I grew up 80 miles away! One last thing that I wanted you to know because, again, I think it's important. On Labor Day 2020 (that was September 8), Oregon had the largest outbreak of wildfires across the entire state, North to South, Easy to West. The entire state was on fire! As you could see from your video, the smoke was literally all the way around the caldera and lake. It took a couple months to get them under control, and many were still burning in the Spring, after going dormant through the mild winter. So sorry you had to see Oregon at its literal worst because there is so much beauty here to see. I sincerely hope you come back and when you do, I'll be happy to cook you a nice meal with my Dutch Ovens. 😎🥰 Maybe we can show you the Redwoods, just SW of us here in the Rogue Valley.
Thanks so much Migs!!! You know we love bringing all of you along on our crazy adventures especially right now when most people are locked down. Wasn't Crater Lake just mindblowing?!

I've never seen it get that that in my entire life here all 30 yrs... It was scary. I'm just glad you got to enjoy what you did even during such difficult times.

You guys seem so cool!! Every summer after school, my friends and I get together at 5am and pick out some random spot in the pacific northwest to visit that we know nothing about besides our curiosity to visit. Also, it's nice seeing people just have compassion for those they don't even know. Oregon has been through a lot this year. I hope you guys come back and visit soon! When you come back, id recommends going to cougar falls in the gorge, and it's still a pretty secret from tourists. It is an amazing hike and view at the end. Also, the ice caves in northern Washington are definitely worth it. Just don't go inside even though it is tempting. My friends and I went in because we went off the trail to explore, and we heard the ice crack up above us, and we booked out of there so quickly, later we went back on the trail, headed down, and saw multiple RIPs signs for people. The beauty just sucks you in, but yeah hope you guys are doing well and having a swell time wherever you are.

The fires 🔥 were by far one of the scariest thing I have lived through, many Oregonians headed to the coast to try and escape, only to be evacuated. We evacuated, have the world’s worst air quality and it was during a pandemic. Seeing nature suffer like this was heartbreaking. Not only is but California and Washington, there was no where to go.
