    You're likely dealing with a hernia where his stomach wall did not fully close, thus the red discoloration around the area and discomfort when you were poking it and the pink "sac" when he hatched. Those are likely his intestines that you were poking at. If you do not take him to the vet, you risk that area dying off due to being exposed to the eliments in a way they're not supposed to be, getting infected, and him passing away. The only real resolution is surgery to remove anything that is dead/necrotic, repair anything needing repaired, put it all back in place, and close the hole.

      Let's hope they saw these comments telling them to take it to the vet. Honestly, with your description, it sounds like this chick may not have good QOL. Some birds just succumb to the stress of surgery sadly, especially ones so young.

      Looks like a hernia to me too. Maybe didn’t close where he was attached to the egg yolk in the egg. I think they can sometimes live normally with it like that.

      Their testicles are located in their back, so I'm thinking it's a hernia. I don't think his abdomen closed the way it was supposed to while forming in his shell. Definitely thinking hernia.

    Former vet tech here. To me it looks like a hernia from where it's yolk was previously attached. I'd get it to a vet to repair it or it is likely to eventually get infected and cause sepsis. There is a good chance they can repair it at this stage. Without treatment there is a good chance with how much geese love water and how much bacteria live in water that this little one will end up with an internal infection.

    That my friends is an Egg Yolk Hernia! It happens when the egg yolks don't absorb properly from being removed too early from their eggs, and they developed a hernia because the yolk wasn't absorbed properly.

  • @MissouriCrookedBarnHomestead
    @MissouriCrookedBarnHomestead 3 месяца назад +76

    I believe that is a hernia left from separation from the egg. There's a small bit of intestine and that has hardened.

    That's basically an "Umbilical Hernia" in a goose. The area where the yolk was attached didn't close and you have intestines and other organs coming through the hole. This is either a Vet trip to get it repaired quickly or it's likely he's not going to survive.

    Definitely a vet visit otherwise he won’t survive much longer. That is where the yolk sac attaches when inside the egg, for whatever reason his hatching may have been a bit traumatic and caused a hernia. They will most likely have to cut out some of the dead intestines, sew everything up and hope for the best!

    Also I think someone lied to you, or didn't understand what you were doing, as most people say to never do opposing finishes on top of each over. They probably messed with each other and that happened. Or you got a really bad batch.

    Hernia, we occasionally have a gosling hatch with one and they act fine, until they're not. Definitely needs medical attention if you want to save him.

  • @kailand3056
    @kailand3056 3 месяца назад +5

    The dark red blob you see protruding from the gosling’s lower abdomen is the remnant of the yolk sac, which wasn’t completely absorbed before the bird hatched. From what I read online, you should leave the sac alone (don’t try to pull or cut it off) and it will dry out and fall off on its own. Keep a lookout signs of infection (a yellowish or greenish color to the sac).

    wish i could have seen it earlier, but thanks to hatching a lot of birds and assisting with some, that is exactly where the yolk absorbed+umbelical cord would have been attached. my guess is that the cord broke off too close, and caused some sort of hernia or an odd fleshy growth. eitherway, it is very unlikely to be a tumor.

    Abdominal hernia in birds can be either congenital or acquired [1]. However, abdominal hernia is characterized by separation of aponeurosis of abdominal muscles at ventral midline [2]. This gives the bird a pot-bellied appearance with protruding mass visible directly beneath the skin [3].

    Pretty sure It’s an umbilical hernia - basically where he attached to his/ her egg sack, leaves a place of muscle weakness in the abdominal wall, and the small intestine (usually but slightly t can be other organs) begins to poke through the gap wgere the umbilical was..

    I have been breeding embdens for a few years now for show, the males are lighter than the females typically being a green shade of gray. Females will be darker more of a “blue” shade of gray. The gosling with the injury looks to be your female. To address the injury, it looks like where the gosling absorbed the yolk didn’t fully close up and what you are looking at is a small amount of intestine that is protruding through the opening. I’d see if you have a vet that is willing to look at poultry. Your other (cheaper) option is to dip the protruding intestine in iodine, then try to poke it back into the abdominal cavity then possibly (if you are confident) throw a stitch in there or super glue it shut. I’m hoping that all goes well for you guys and that you see this comment!

    If you do buff out the white lines, which i totally approve of! Try to make some areas thicker, more rounded, and some places thinner, or try to match the colour of the matte that isn't doubled up. That way it is an artistic choice, or not visable! Otherwise there might be dark lines, which is just another problem. probably more appealing than the current state either way!
