    Oh my - not a fast project in my book either but wow what great results. I'm still working on kids modeling clay making little turtles, but this is really inspiring. Love your work and I am deeply grateful that wonderfully talented artists such as yourself are willing to show us how to elevate our skills. You are amazing. Thank you.

    Jonni, I am a portrait artist. When I was learning I used an artist’s comparative calipers (PROSPEK OF England). One side measures the object you are trying to make while the other increases or decreases the size of the object for sculpture or artwork….they are plastic and can be found in most fine art stores….inexpensive and faster to get the proportions correct from the start. Hope you try it….or even tell this to your students. A very cheap pasta roller from a second hand store or even a cook store will save hours getting the clay even and very thin. A super thin clay layer would be easy that way.

    My mistakes often lead to an unexpected exponential leap in creativity that takes a project beyond my expectations. Sometimes when I realize a project is uninspiring, I wish for some serendipitous screwup to occur that can spur me to think outside the butt, as I call it.

    Mistakes....................say it is not so. Even thou it did not work out as planned, the project looked nice. Thanks for the video. I drove up to Lake Superior today. Last year I drove to Duluth. I made a little video and it is on my channel. I am late watching your video but it was good to see you.

    I'm enjjoying these videos a lot - I got into papier mache again because I wanted to use a less toxic material. but my stuff is mostly figurative, and these videos answer all the questions I've been asking.

    Hi Jonni, it’s lovely to see you are still making beautiful art and sharing your talent. I spoke with you years ago about making a parrot. It came out wonderful and I still have it. Must have made it around 2013 - 2016. Anyway, before I try this, I was wondering if you’ve tried using very fine sawdust - almost the consistency of power, instead of flour in any of your paper maché recipes? Ok, I’ll let you go make something.😉 Keep looking up! -Louis

      Hi Louis. No, I haven't tried using sawdust. Have you tried it?

      No, not yet. I made a mixture of glue and sawdust to fill a hole in a gypsy wagon I’m working on and it worked great. I will experiment and get back to you. 😊

    I had an idea for hollow sculptures…..fill about 4/5 with expandable foam the sink in some marbles or even a small rock or two to make it stable to stand on it’s own……the inside foam would protect against dents forming by rough handling….

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  Месяц назад

      That sounds like a good idea, but some types of foam keeps expanding more than you expect. Do you know of a brand that wouldn't do that?

    • @johannebeerbaum1546
      @johannebeerbaum1546 Месяц назад

      @@UltimatePaperMache sorry, I do not. I just used a can from HomeDepot to fill certain voids, but a couple of times it did expand, overfilling the gaps and I just had to use a sharp utility knife to cut the excess, nothing happened except that there was the removable overflow….the large Mardi Gras type head was fine. When my kids were young there were pink elephants, king of the fairies, Darth Vader and super Mario, hungry Hippo for several Halloweens.

    Hi Jonni, I make Pinatas and was wondering if you could recommend a good paper source. Thick newsprint with a little fuzz seems to work best. I usually use the free news print fliers you find at the grocery store. But cant find them anymore. Now I need to search out the perfect Pinata paper and don't know where to start.

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  Месяц назад

      Hi Marsha. I have never made a Pinata, but I use the brown paper that is stuffed in amazon.com shipping boxes. It's very close in weight to newspaper, although it may be just slightly heavier. I don't know where to buy it, though. I get the newspaper flyers in the mail, whether I want them or not, so I always have some of that, too. They used to make large pads of unbleached newspaper for kids to draw on, but I don't know if they do anymore. Maybe someone else will have a more helpful answer for you. 😊

    Jonni! Try painting your sculpture in a thin layer of latex paint, let it dry then apply your paper mache. You should be able to cut through the paint and it won’t stick to the oil based clay.
