    • @DJJonPattrsn22
      @DJJonPattrsn22 2 года назад +32

@Wild Andes: NO! That is NOT Chef John's recipe (which she mentions at the beginning)! The REAL recipe calls for 7 tablespoons of butter (although 8 would be just fine), and far more importantly ONLY 3/4 cup of buttermilk!
You'll have something closer to thick batter with a cup of buttermilk.
Try adding a teaspoon (or even a tablespoon) of sugar to the recipe.

I’ve also seen a chef dust the grayer with flour after the first few strokes of graying the butter. Keep the paper on the stick at the very end so your fingers don’t touch the butter while you grate. And you can roll the stick in flour for easier grating.

OMGoodness! A biscuit recipe with no wasteful words! Nicole doesn't even subject us desperate reader's in need of a good biscuit recipe, to sit through a bunch of boring I, me, my baking stories, nor does she force us to listen to her past biscuit failures, no ideas that didn't work for her or thought paths that bombed, will you find in this video! Every word has a purpose. Just 6 masterful ingredients. Every step and every tip is explained and every WHY is answered. When I put a plate of these biscuits on the table...and everybody knew I made them....I was swelled up with pride! Thanks, Nicole! I like your style! I'll never buy Grands or Pillsbury EVER again! Canned biscuits? Those are soo last week!

I make up 3 recipes with butter and butter flavor crisco shorting, work it in as call for in recipe. Then put it in a seal container and put in my freeze. When ready to make my biscuits take out the amount needed for the number of biscuits I need and add buttermilk and mix them as per the recipe. This way you can have them in half the time and mess.

Best recipe for biscuits I've found is self rising flour and heavy whipping cream 2 cups of self rising flour a 1 1/2 cups of heavy whipping cream incorporate well and roll out dough to a half of a inch thick and use a 2 ond a half inch to 3 inch biscuit cutter and cook a 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 11 to 13 minutes depending on how you oven is configured if it's not insulated around it.

I'm 50, I started making biscuits. With my dad when I was eight. It was our Saturday ritual to feed the family. Over the years I've taken his recipe and tuned it to what I like. I don't measure anything. But I always use frozen butter in my recipe. I always have people ask me for my recipe. I always tell people can't tell you. But will be more than happy to show you. You have to know how a biscuit mix should feel. It'd how it feels, it's how it looks. I can tell when they are done just by how they smell in the oven. You're tactics and mine are extremely similar. Good video, enjoyed it a lot. When it comes to a good biscuit, experience means a lot. Lol

My mother and grandmother made the best biscuits. Both being from Alabama. I'm not sure how they did it but they would put flour, salt and I guess baking powder in a bowl. Make a 'well' in the center and using their hands would form a biscuit. So good! The biscuits were soft, tender, flaky and so good.

I’m very thankful that hubby found this recipe and YES, you explained it so very nicely!
This is not at all a complaint as ours came out overall deliciously awesome and is just a heads up to anyone so they don’t experience near the same issues-I just had to do a few different things. We’re here in Texas and not sure if today’s humidity played a part here but after keeping the shredded butter in the freezer (for around 15 minutes), it was not at all very crumbly but I just didn’t blend it too much. Also, the dough was quite sticky so next time I won’t be as skimpy on the flour. I did not have buttermilk but only powdered nonfat skim milk but added the 1 Tbsp of white vinegar that sat for quite sometime and I didn’t notice it to curdle, but followed the advice of many with those 2 ingredients. I also ended up baking them a bit longer than 15 minutes (not sure if because of the buttermilk substitute, etc) as they were not yet formed by 15 minutes.
This is, however, by far the best biscuit recipe I’ve ever found and now I can also work from experience, thank you Nicole! 😊

Hi Nicole I made these biscuits for the first time ever last night, I'm not a fan of biscuits they always have a bitter taste to me, but my wife likes them. I changed two little things used whole milk instead of buttermilk and I rolled them out because I couldn't get them very even by just patting them out. My wife was impressed with them, I actually liked them too, no sour taste, But now my wife seems to think I need to make them all the time. Thanks for always having the recipe available and going through the recipe, I have learned a lot from your videos keep up the great work,

I watch a lot of how-to cooking videos and I appreciate your genuine approach or how you talk to the viewer . So many bloggers or content creators are out there trying to be cute as if they are hoping to get picked up by a network, and becoming a celebrity, yet they fail by trying too hard by either joking, talking down to their audiences, talking too much or clever editing techniques.
Also , long music theme intros are obnoxious. If too long, I will just skip and look for another presenter.
Most viewers just want to be told straight up in sequence how to achieve the goal.
So I appreciate your style by keeping it "real", as they say.
......and the biscuits look great. This one makes me hungry.

You are the best the way you explain everything and even the way you take your bite😘

The cool thing about biscuits is that everybody makes them different. Your recipe is a lot like mine, but I keep it very simple. Takes me 15 minutes from bowl to oven. Good tips though. Thank you for the video.

I have been looking for a lost recipe of my mama. She made very thin biscuits that she called cracker biscuits. I'm trying this and making very thin. Love your recipe. Will see how they turn out.

Thanks for this video and the tips. You have reminded me that mixing up my own biscuits is not that difficult. I cheat though, I use my food processor to mix in the butter or shortening.
