I'm sure it's perfectly safe, but eating prepackaged sashimi from Costco just does not sit right with me lol
Yea I’ll just watch other ppl eat it lol
Just smell it
are you from US? cause i can see why you questioned it.. I personally would eat this only at Costco in Taiwan, Japan, etc 😂
why, they flash freeze it which kills everything, there is literally 0 danger of anything lol.
it is like eating prepackaged pizza.
Costco is basically the Anti-Walmart; limited selection of the best products in large amounts with decent--if *NOT* cheap--pricing. (...and they treat their staff like *GOLD!* )
Tf you from Costco is expensive 😭
@@mayuhnaykechup6959 Yes, they have fancy stuff that is *CRAZY* expensive, but some staples can even be cheaper than Walmart. For example, a 4.5kg/10lb box of perogies is only $10 here, where you might pay $15 elsewhere, and the 5 dozen pack of eggs is cheaper per egg than you can get on *sale* in other stores. Sure, you will be lucky to leave with 'only' a $200 bill, but your cart will be *packed.*
@@mayuhnaykechup6959 where are YOU from? Where I live most things are cheaper at Costco, especially if you’re a family
You get that Costco is a direct competitor to Sam's club, right? Comparing it to Walmart is weird since the business models are different. You do know Walmart owns Sam's club right?
@@unlisted9494 I am aware that Sam's Club was created by Sam Walton to compete with Price Club--which later merged with Costco. I am also WELL aware of how Walmart works, *ESPECIALLY* their shady, predatory business practices. I call Costco the 'Anti-Walmart' BECAUSE of both how different their business models are *AND* how different their ethics are--Costco actually *has* ethics, always in stock and in bulk. Walmart... Oof. (...and Sam's Club's soul is also owned by Walmart, so double oof.)

The people that curate the products that Costco sells have got to be some of the best in any industry. You could do almost all of your shopping there and have a very functional home with 2 year warranties on everything you own.
The only problem with Costco is that to shop there you need a lot of money and a huge fridge and freezer.

Costco is a great place to buy fish for sashimi as their farmed salmon are fed anti parasitic pellets. While flash freezing is 100% always recommended no fish is 100% safe. I want to see a sushi chef react to this
High end Sushi is 90% presentation all that matters is that the fish and rice are good the rest is just aesthetics.
@@user-vf6km4sf2r As a former sushi chef, this is not strictly correct. Sushi is rarely "presented" in any special way and it has everything to to with the quality of the fish. the salmon in this video looks okay, but that tuna is way old. 5-7 days old at least. It should be a much more vibrant, blood-red color but this tuna is turning dark red/gray. you can also see lots of sinuine in the tuna at the bottom half of that pack, which tells me that it is too chewy.
@@rileysimpkins7915 you just proved my point, the only thing that matters is the fish and rice. The presentation and all the extra bs is just hype
@@user-vf6km4sf2r maybe you’re confused because you said, “high end sushi is 90% presentation.” That would mean that the quality of the fish and rice only accounts for 10% of what makes it high-end. But If the preparation and all the extra bs is just hype, then the quality of the fish and rice should be 90% of what makes sushi high-end and and the presentation would be 10%. You just proved MY point lol. Either way, sounds like we agree. 👍

Lolol beautiful visual art
Going to have to pick some up tomorrow doing the groceries.
As someone who worked at the meat department at a costco for 6 years, i would not touch the costco sushi even with gloves on. Its not fresh, it comes in a big box with all our other fillets and we dont use any extra sanitary procedures for sushi vs cutting regular salmon fillets.
Why didn’t u complain? That’s right coz u didn’t care, doofus!
To be fair, you don't normally want it all too fresh. Freezing it helps kill parasites.
Sushi is better not fresh, fish should be flash frozen
According to the best sushi chefs currently living, it's not supposed to be fresh. They leave it out for 20-40 hours.

God i wish i lived in your city lol i gotta look around here for a deal ngl
I know what you’re trying to say, but I feel obligated to say that “sushi grade” is not a real thing.
@@rachel4339 yea not worth the battle lol
@@rachel4339There is. Sashimi grade fish has undergone quick freezing procedures to ensure they don't have those nasty worms that could live inside human body.
@@lunaaa8225 I’d suggest actually searching out the term online and reading a few articles on the subject 🤷♀️
Unlike grades of beef (such as select, choice, and prime) which have a standard metric applied to them by a governing board, describing fish a “sushi-grade” is simply a marketing term, that is only as useful as the seller is trustworthy. While I understand the process behind preparing sushi, freezing a product would not change its grade. For example if you freeze a USDA “choice” grade steak it doesn’t become “prime” grade steak. So while some fish, such as tuna, do indeed have a grading system, none of those grades are called “sushi” (they’re just numbers). Additionally, any of those grades can be safely consumed in raw form, assuming they have undergone the appropriate processing recommended by the FDA.
So, sushi grade is not a thing. Saying “fish deemed by the seller to be safe for raw consumption” would be the accurate terminology but I’m sure you can see why that would be a terrible marketing strategy.

Nooo don’t mix the soy sauce and wasabi ever
Why not?
Mood. I don’t trust the opinion of someone who mixes wasabi with soy sauce. I’m from Singapore and it gets worse, the people here combine the wasabi and soysauce and mix it into a slurry before dipping the fish in.
@@Captain_porkchop90 best way to enjoy sashimi is to put a dab of wasabi on top and dip the bottom part in abit of soy. The textural difference is amazing especially with fresh or slightly better quality wasabi. It’s like having the wasabi pungency first followed by the fish and the salty umami soy sauce Vs just having the fish followed by the combined notes of just essentially a wasabi flavored soy sauce where you lose the fragrance of the wasabi itself. But tbh I guess in the case of cheaper wasabi where the” wasabi” is literally a homogeneous paste as akin to the drier or better grades tube ones, it doesn’t really matter as much anymore. But still try both ways and see if you can appreciate the layers of flavors as opposed to just a wasabi flavored soy mixture.
