Your take no bullshit honesty, ambition, and attitude, gave black folks young and old the courage to come as they were with no apologies. Ever. You will be Forever missed and Loved.
RIP Melvin Van Peebles, died Tuesday, 21 Sept. 2021 at his home in Manhattan. Called the "godfather of modern Black cinema," he was 89 years old. "Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song," his transformative 1971 actioner, is on RUclips a half dozen times, so if you have not already seen it, now is certainly the time -- even though IMBD currently gives it a mere 5.5*. When the MPA gave the picture an X-rating, Peebles added the tagline, "Rated X by an all-white jury." Gotta love it. Just found this and have yet to watch, but my hope is that this documentary will be as important in its area - and as fascinating - as "The Celluloid Closet," a groundbreaking study by Vito Russo, scholar and figurehead of the gay rights movement. (A documentary based on his book was released in 1969.)
"yes ! that's another one "Oh "please watch the documentary of the Nicholas Brothers! your gonna be in your glory! and we as Black People should not for get our Beautiful Dorothy Dandridge!
@James Anderson I think they pair well. It's important not just to understand this, but to contemplate how contemporary Black entertainers become complicit in the reproduction of this. Bamboozled teaches us that not knowing our history and being so hungry for money and fame that we degrade ourselves destroys us, and that resistance needs to be constructive, rather than destructive. Learned a lot from that movie, and own it. Saw it in theater when it came out. Still haunted by it.

Thanks for sharing the details 🙏
Such a great documentary!!
This documentary should be shown on every black channel. This is context and will bring about open minds and solutions to our causes. Black First💪
I definitely remember watching this several times on Starz or encore back when it was newly released
This should be mandatory education
I love all of the late Melvin Van Peebles movies 🙌. My mom said that back in the days of segregation era that they had a lot of all black movies for us in our community but wear never shown on tv! I spend my days off watching movies of our people. I love Amos and Andy and a lot of Spencer Williams movies 🎥🖤🤎
This is a classic.... We need this on more outlets 24/7...
Thank you 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💙💙💪🏾💪🏾🦾🦾🦋🦋💜💜💜💕💕💕
Thank you for such a teaching tool. I'm white but come from a family who love all of Gods people. I believe black people are the true Jews or one of the tribes of Israel
When Mario mentioned the movie "Panther", he wasn't talking about marvel's movie "Black Panther".
