The underground was one of my favourite parts of Sinnoh as a kid - the children yearn for the mines, as do the Welsh.
As someone he is welsh lives in a small town in Wales’s I can agree we do also I think sinnoh should’ve been based off wales.

I've never even considered that there could have been event only secret base decorations in gen 4 before, those were super cool to see. Also seeing you pass ACE to another game was super unexpected and I cannot wait to see what happens with that in the future.

@@Thaddeus_Crews Across all 100 fossils it only happened four times (one of them I didn't have the moves because I dismissed the possibility and dug up a Fire Stone instead)
Platinum has always been my favorite Pokemon game because there's so many new things I discover even after multiple playthroughs. I spent hours playing capture the flag with my sister as a kid when she still played them. Now I've recently gotten the third star on my Trainer Card after claiming 50 flags thanks thanks to having two systems. There's so many fun little things in this game, and I always enjoy finding them.
Pretty hilarious that you have to not just ACE, but RCE, to achieve full completion in a game.

As a kid I did a luxio chain just to see how long I could go, I don't think I was even catching them

In regards to the 100 fossils, you do not need to wait weeks to get enough nodes for 100 fossils. You can bury sphere (up to 100), then nodes are more likely to appear around where you buried the gem. I was able to get 100 fossils this way by since this method yielded a lot of nodes per in game day. The time skip also works so I completed this in 3 real life days.
I also tried to get them all but the only one I'm missing is the globe because I don't currently have a way to connect to wifi without a password.
It took weeks because I got unlucky getting Fossils even from the tons of nodes around my sphere stash, if I could do it faster I would haha
God, these niche topics about Sinnoh feed my soul. Great work Toasty, I gotta get around to grinding these out myself!

I didn’t play gen 4 until I was an adult (it happened to come out when I was 13 and thought I was too cool to enjoy things) but when I did finally play platinum as an adult I had to force myself to stop playing the mining mini game so I could actually beat the game. It sucked me in for reasons beyond my comprehension

It's actually a bit sad that this was the last generation to have decorations, though when you really narrow things down, they always had some BS means of obtaining them all. Plus when it came to multiplayer functionality, most players only focused on trading and battling, so it's unsurprising why they stopped having decorations after Gen 4.
I honestly never remember even knowing what decorations were as a 12 year old. Like you said, I focused on collecting pokemon not furniture.
@@2810Mad Yeah, everyone focused on collecting the Pokemon and not furniture, which is probably why they got rid of this feature altogether.

Fantastic video! I spent so much time in my platinum secret base as a kid, and it's really great to see this kind of earnest effort being put into showcasing lost content, and the love you have for these games. Can't wait for the next video!
I’ve been playing platinum in conjunction with a Heart Gold shiny playthrough & using the underground to farm resources/money, so I have found a lot of the decorations, but since I only have platinum & not another gen 4 sinnoh title, I guess my boulders will have to remain intact.
Oh, another thing I didn't know. You can bury Spheres on top of each other?! This combines them, but it's not straight addition, you lose some of the number in combining them. I've been using this when I'm out mining and I don't want to just throw away everything I just got. Even though it doesn't matter, it's kinda disheartening to leave a sphere because your bag is full...

Since you've clearly been doing a lot of underground stuff, can you answer a few questions I have about it that I can't find info about?
When do the shiny spots in walls reset?
Are there a limited amount of them per day?
Do they appear more in areas where spheres have been buried?

As far as I'm aware it's a set amount spawned at midnight. They only appear on the map when you approach them, but you can see where they all are with the Treasure Radar on the underground PC
Getting 100 fossils feels like such a task in it of itself... Replaying Diamond a year ago, I was trying to gun it for a cranidos to do the ribbon challenge with, and *4 days* of mining got me zip, zero, nada. The fact you got 100 is astounding to me.

hey, cool video! I'm doing the same thing in my Platinum. trying to get as many achievements in that game as possible. got a legit living dex, and just got all the trade decorations recently. some of those contests ones and the like are certainly going to be a bit tougher 😅
I loved the underground feature. Sad how they ruined it in bdsp. Yeah getting statues is cool yet, its not worth it for decorating the "base"
Started a platinum badge quest on a japanese copy i got not too long ago, just got my second shiny for Gardenia and started playing around in the underground since i want to hunt for the fossils later on so this video's gonna be some big help explaining alotta underground stuff
man i miss the underground, i remember me and my siblings would build our bases close by and plant traps for eachother and work to get the coolest goods! what a treat to see such an in depth look at the decorating aspect since that was my second favorite behind just excavating stuff

As a kid I did a link battle with my brother and I used Knock Off and we thought the item was gone forever
@@SirToastyToes we did link battles all the time throughout our journeys and in the post game and believed specific Pokémon on our team developed rivalries.

That first adventure was a magical time. No internet access or guide book and the logic of the world being defined by a 6 and 7 year old. My two fav examples of this were when I found my first shiny a wooper, I believed it was a wooper possessed by darkrai and it needed my help. It remained on my team and eventually I discovered what shinies were and was happy to know my Quagsire wasn’t suffering. As for the second one my brother had an abra later kadabra on his team and we didn’t know what trade evos were. The logical conclusion? His kadabra was like Ash’s pikachu and wanted to show how strong kadabras can be, that kadabra stayed on his team and was his first level 100 Mon.
