    Interesting video. My friend built something similar without the plumbing and it was around 15-18k based on finishes. Price seems excessive for that small a house.

    I work as a building inspector in Ontario. They are completely wrong when they say no permit is required. At that size no permit would be required for a shed or accessory building (as shown in the video when he was on the building department website) but this is a house which is not a shed or accessory structure. Of course the company will not say that. They’ll sell you the product and they’ll be long gone by the time the local building department shows up.

      I don't know if it's a sales tactic or if they come from another area and honestly think no permit is required because maybe it isn't where they are from, but sh*t, here in Ontario you need a permit to scratch your own butt, so you definitely would to move into a house.
      I'm in the middle of trying to get my ducks in a row for a tiny build, cuz housing is ridiculous. Sad part is, I can afford to get the shell done and paid for, but the only thing holding me back is I know I won't be allowed to move into it I til the wiring, heat, and basic plumbing is in, and the wiring is what's going to kill me. Even getting a rough quote so I can try to get financing or arrange a private rent to own deal (if I can't get financing on my own, I might be able to find an investor willing to do a private VTB deal) so I can have an idea how much I'll need. Last time I had wiring done on a similar sized place it was 14k, but that was decades ago, so I know it'll be more now.
      The insulation is something I could piddle away with myself, same with putting up gyprock and putting down some basic flooring. But no way would I trust myself with wiring, and as simple as I'm planning on going with the plumbing, I'm still leaning to getting someone who actually knows what they're doing to get that, so I'll be stuck in an RV for a couple (maybe a few) years until everything is done

      It’s a bunkie and in Ontario the building code now allows for 160 ft.² for a Bunkie or a shed. You don’t need a building permit so long as it’s not wired or plumbed.

    • @makaylaforbes6719
      @makaylaforbes6719 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Caoucaren gotta have heat and lights, so there's gotta be wiring. Nobody's gonna stay anywhere they can't at least charge their phones or watch tv. I personally wouldn't spend much time in a place I couldn't shower or brush my teeth in either, so it would have to have at least in and out pipes for plumbing

    • @Caoucaren
      @Caoucaren 2 месяца назад +2

      @@makaylaforbes6719 there are ways around the code. You could have an extension cord from the main house going to the Bunkie for electricity or you could have one of those power stations like a bluetti, As far as water goes, you could bring bottled water,a toilet can be an outhouse or a composting toilet or an incinerator toilet, got to think outside the box. These structures, like the videos says, are more a secondary shelter, the main house would more likely be the source for electricity and water.

    • @makaylaforbes6719
      @makaylaforbes6719 2 месяца назад

      @Caoucaren the toilet wouldn't be my concern. I'm well versed in off grid living, but I would also still have at least the ability to turn on a tap. I don't really understand why municipalities won't make room for communities of these buildings. I wouldn't mind getting one myself and have it solar equipped, but the fact is you still need a permit to build a structure for living in, and to get that permit it needs basics like wiring and plumbing

      @@timwhite8878 other places in the country are already doing this for homeless people. I think they should loosen up size restrictions in alot of places tbh, or at least get on municipalities to allot a minimum amount of acreage per town for communities where these are welcome as housing so people can actually buy them for themselves. Most people can at least afford to pay for their own Bunkie, and if they actually did that, maybe there wouldn't be so much homelessness
