With all due respect, being able to navigate superficial comments is a great skill. I have recently moved back to the US from Germany and one of the highlights of moving back has been these superficial conversations with strangers...whether at the park, the grocery store, waiting for my kids at the elementary school. I so missed this while living in Germany for 10 years. These conversations can play an important role in ever day life. For some people, this might be their only interaction with another person during the day. But this is a very American way of thinking, which I understand.

I don't understand the idea of being proud of something other people did or achieved. Ok, they happened to be born in the same country (not always the case, states and borders can change), spoke the same language as you do (not true for multilingual countries).
Nationalism is a plague. There is a fine line between being proud of your nation/country and thinking your nation is superior to others. Germany went through it, now Russia is going through the same. I'm witnessing it with my own eyes, being Russian.
Nations and religions with all their pride are only means to divide and conquer. Let's not forget that we are all human beings.

Apparently unlike you, we can differentiate between general friendliness, acquaintances, and true longtime friends. Notice America is like the one part of the world he left out of where Germans travel to🙄 I'm so sick of the European anti-American sentiment. I see a good bit of on this channel..I was treated very badly when I visited Germany years ago (by some, not by most)..and another area of Europe as well. Complicated. I think he should go back to Germany and stay for a while. Because i know that feeling, he probably just misses his home/country but has to stay in a foreign country because of something and it leads him to a negative feeling. There is nothing wrong with other cultures or any culture and it's okay if you don't like it, but just don't be so aggressive about it because at the end it's not other people's fault that you are feeling like that. That's why sometimes it's better to take a break and go home and when you are ready, come back again.
I know that feeling, because I'm currently in Germany and I come from a warm culture and here in Germany, people are so cold and rude and i don't like it and i was and will always be again in his situation, complaining and will never understand why people in this country are so cold and rude and so distant. That's why i went home and came back again or i tried to talk and hang out with my people in Germany.
You will always have that feeling and it can be even worse when you meet a racist person in the same phase while you have that bad feeling, that's why you should not allow it to destroy yourself because it will still happen and will have no End.

    • @Trip4man

Wrong... Because if you strip people out of their identity and culture they'll go mad. Nazi-sm was actually somewhat because of that! The German pride was in an all time low, because they lost the 1st World War... And Hitler promised that pride back. And in a way he did delivered it. Until he lost it completely of course. Most Germans probably didn't know the cost of that pride restoration until too late... There was a "quicksand factor" in the whole thing too. The more the regime solidified, the more evil and extreme it got. The rise of the Right in Europe comes from this exactly!!!! European countries are being overrun by immigrants and different cultures that don't co-exist well... And natives are feeling left out of their nationality and land. It's like being adopted by another family.... You lived with your parents, which provided comfort, love, familiarity and then you get a complete stranger that doesn't provide ANY of that. It is a process that can go well... Or BADLY
