This is from 1978. It’s a parody of real events under the Cold War. This actor (Harald Heide Steen jr) was a unique comedian who made improvisations of all kinds of situations. He started as a jazz musician, and could improvise anything with his musical talents as well, but didn’t follow this talent professionally after he became a comedian back in the 1960s. This is one of the big Norwegian comedian talents.

Also Norway shares a boarder whith Russia far North and this video is from the time of the cold war. Where suspicious Russian uboat activivity was common. So he is macking mockery of the Russians. Harald Heide Steen was one of the great Norwegian actors and comedians. :)

"We can't see the border under water"! I loved that comment then, decades ago, and it still makes me smile. Heide Steen was one of our best comedians ever!

The song he sang was a Norwegian Christmas song haha. Nettene blir lange means "when the nights get prolonged" But Nettene can also be fishing tool which is a "yarn"

You are really bringing me back to my childhood with these comedy videos lol
I haven't even seen most of them myself, but like you said, there is something just uniquely Norwigian about it (maybe it can categorized as uniquely Scandinavian, but I wouldn't know for certain).
I never realized how disconnected I have become with my culture and my countries general quirks, as well as my childhood, until I started watching Norwegian reaction videos.

Legend has it that when he turns around and actually speaks to his executive officer or whatever, he speaks so convincingly that even Russians wondered what dialect it was, and he didn't actually know Russian. Not sure if it's true or not.

Det er nok feil. The Russian spoken language do not have different dialects like spoken Norwegian do

@@themetricsystem7967 I guessed as much. There's many such legends and myths about Norwegians. There's a myth that Slash or Eric Clapton said that Øystein Sunde is the worlds greatest guitar player. That is also false.

Harald Heide-Steen Jr. did have a good ear, though. He made the fake languages sound authentic. I know a professor in phonetics at the University Trondheim invited him to talk about how he created his fake languages, but the fee he demanded was too high @@AudunWangen

The part of with "supperådet" or the advisory on soup, is simply classic. It is in the same ally as this one, but in the line of "when people ask us about soup, we just make stuff up". But it is all lost in translation. But if you instead listen for the vibe, understanding what he actually says, he is ridiculing the insanity of the politics at the time. It is actually pretty hard hitting. But again, listen for the vibe of it. It has this kind of love to it, making it hard to respond to. It is not done in spite. And it is crazy.
He did a collab for a long time, with this other guy. They also had a dentist scene. That is for the legends. Any conversation with any dentist never was the same, after that one.
I guess it will be hard to appreciate these for real, if you do not speak the language, and do not get the culture. But if you want to look at something, and have not looked at the advisory of soup, you should know that that is the stuff of legends. For any advisory board, after that, that piece was haunting them. It still is a terminology I use to describe useless and meaningless bureaucracy.
As for the u-boat one, there was an actual u-boat incident, with people more or less acting like this, at the time. We do not see a lot of comedy these days, in which the comedian jumps into the character, and just act the insanity even more. Not with this kind of crazy love, that he had.

I am so happy! It's such a great piece. His russian is just jibberish, btw. If it's possible to see it with an english subtitle, you should watch Harald doing Supperådet. Also, he was also a wee drunk making this.

As far as I remember the sketch is pretty much improvised.
The infantil song the submarine captain misunderstand completly. Fishing gear is topic. Fishing net is fiskenett or fiskegarn. In the infantil song nights are nettene. One would think pluralis for nett but it's turn out to be a different word. Asking where's my grandma's pistol doesn't make sense but I guess the comedian had a strong sense for surrealism and dadaism. The obvious is language barrier and a Russian submarine captain trying to avoid critical questions.
It is relevant. 10 years ago 2 Russian agents poisened a person in Salsbury, England. When asked on TV why they were in Salsbury they responded that they were tourists wanting to see the 136 meter tall Church Tower. Yeah. Right.

Another not so well known parody by Heide Sten was this happening by a spanish air flight pilot from former Spanish airliner 'Spantax'. When a plane from this airliner came into landing at Oslo air port in treetop hight,,, litterly. There was a lot of after match turbulence when the Pilot's english comunication was questioned. Not texed, sorry.
