Amazing, been waiting for this one, watched Kelly's yesterday and now yours today! Loved the change of attitude, that runner who went past you absolutely soaked it all in and thats a lesson for everyone.... even if times dont go our way, enjoy the experience!! Fantastic effort in that heat mate, now onto the next major!
Thanks mate. Yeah he spoke to me before he went past and said times were out of the window in those conditions and that he was just going to soak it all up. It's a fantastic race and I definitely want to go back. Glad you enjoyed the vlog, and Kelly's too. Next up London!
@@TheWelshRunner I'll never forgot in Copenhagen; a female runner in front of me ran through the HUGE support of her local Danish run club, flares, horns, high-5s, everything, she lapped it in. Then we turned a corner, into a quiet side road with no crowd and she started walking with 15k to go. The emphatic highs and lows of a marathon. Nothing like it. Almost had tears in my eyes when you saw Kelly, something special about the marathon distance, that's for sure.
You know you're good when you're not wishing for the end or a marathon 😁 I'm wishing for the end, the day before.
🤣🤣 I was wishing for the end but then the guy having so much fun ahead reminded me that we choose to do this and should have some fun 🤷🏻♂️🤣

OK, I ran a couple marathons in the 4 hours area. Guess I don't have a marathon runner body either. Hah!
I have to stop watching these videos at night in bed because they get me so pumped up I feel like going for a run after watching them! Well done 👍
I can't imagine being disappointed with a 2:34:xx time. If I finish a half in that I think I'm not too shabby! Love you content, love your spirit - excellent running!

London Marathon is absolutely amazing bang for the buck, Berlin is middle of the road. It's still very reasonable compared to the USA World Marathon Majors...NYC marathon is around $250!!

Great running Matt, tough conditions! I remember running london in 2019, I finished 9 minutes slower than the previous year, but finished higher up the rankings. The heat had such an impact! Great video as always. Love the banter between you and Kelly 🤣👍
I don’t think there’s a typical marathon runners body. I think you look amazing and I don’t doubt you could run 2:30. In this day and age people should know by now. I’m glad you didn’t take offence but still people shouldn’t say that. I’ve seen so many bodies run marathons and I think it’s just so amazing!

Well done pal! A fantastic insight into a marathoners experience during a long race weekend. Loved it. I was there at Berlin too, the conditions were brutal, at times the course was quiet when you needed a raucous crowd, and that final 10k was hard. When folk say empty the tank in the final 10k it doesn’t always mean lightning speed does it, but to leave it all out there. And we all did. I can’t stop smiling still. It was a special special race. Cheers mate
Love the insights and also your challenge! As a former D1 rower, I've determined to also finish all six major marathons until the age of 35, so in 11 years. I know this is going to be rough, but I'm motivated by stories like yours and those race day vlogs to accomplish it

Great running Matt, that heat looked brutal. Always hard to know whether to stick with the pack or let them go. Think you made the right decision and helped me confirm my strategy to run my own race at London on Sunday. Looks like there could be some strong winds in those last few miles. Really enjoyed the vlog and good to see you 'Express Yourself - do do bam do bad da ba dum' :)

Late to the party, and what a great video you have done to document the experience you went through, really enjoyed it, certainly inspires me at 41 to try and do something like this if possible( doing a marathon ) , even tho i only took up running back in May 2021, new subscriber as well
Well done Matt! really enjoyed the vlog and all the Berlin experience. It really helps to boost my motivation towards my marathon race (only in 20 days) I will have very present about the heat and try to pace myself accordingly, just hoping to finish strong. Already nervous just thinking about it..hehe.

I agree with you, Europeans can be so blunt ! :-) We actually say the opposite about British people and Americans. You're so polite and nice that it doesn't feel real sometimes :-) But enough about cultural differences, congrats with the race and the time in those conditions !!
Thanks. I quite like how direct many Europeans are. They say what they are thinking and that’s quite refreshing. I would say the issue in Britain is that they walk away and say it behind your back which is much worse IMO.

Congrats Matt! The conditions were tough this year in Berlin... It was a pleasure to meet you after the race! I don't know if you remember speaking to me after the race. I managed to pb by 5 mins! I finished 30 seconds after you and spotted myself in the background of the video at 22:04 😂 I was too busy trying to get a selfie with Shalane Flanagan 🤣
