Abrahamic religions are based on the story that Abraham attempted to cut the throat of his son in order to prove his sincerity to God. Since a so-called omniscient God would know about Abraham's sincerity without needing to resort to child abuse, it's obvious that the Abraham story was made up & perpetuated by hypocrite low-intellect barbaric delusional fools.

Nope. If he did not fulfill his mission on his own, then we could not be justified in Jesus. God demands perfection, this one would not be such in Christ but shared a little with Simon, and Simon didn't die for me so that won't make it for me to get to heaven. If God is holy and just and if my salvation fully rests on Christ alone, then he must have been perfect in fulfilling the law for humanity in perfection and fullness.

A good point. There's a tendency in this increasingly individualistic culture for Christians to say that, "Because I have God, I don't need the church or other Christians to go through life." It's a sadly common mindset among professing Christians who's no longer actively involved in church life.

    • @samuelabarza4631

@@ve8168 why do we need to congregate? Because first we are One body in Christ. Because I need God and only God, I will be taught by him many times through my brothers in whom God is working the same way I am through the Holy Spirit. Do I need anything beside God? No. Do I need human beings to be happy? Not necessarily, but in the christian doctrine you do, but In a very deep sense. Yes you need brothers in Christ who to love and learn from, why? because God is in them and you are part of them in Christ's body.

Here's another possible way of (maybe flawed or not) thinking. Simon carrying the cross, showed that we're burdened by the weight of our sins destined to be condemned to death. But instead Christ was the one who end up dying on our cross, while Simon (representing us figuratively) lived on without having to taste death.

"Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you *participate* in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed." I Peter 4:12,13 (NIV).
    AND
"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2
The Holy Spirit called Simon to PARTICIPATE in the sufferings of Christ; likewise, He calls us to share in carrying one another's burdens, as Simon was compelled to carry the cross. In so doing, we participate in the sufferings and work of Christ. Therefore, our trials (James 1:2-4) and fiery ordeals (Daniel 3:16-27), hardships and discipline (Hebrews 12:1-13) are to be embraced by those who are true sons of God as opportunities to participate in the sufferings of Jesus, who "endured the cross and suffered its shame," in order to lead the way in faith in God "who judges justly" (I Peter 2:23), and perfect our faith through perseverance and patient endurance. Sufferings and trials are a wonderful way to learn personally more fully about who Jesus is and the power of his work that saved us. Sufferings and trials lead to Spirit-inspired worship and adoration of the Lamb which was slain, and with whose blood he ". . . purchased men for God." (Revelation 5:9)

Simon of cyrene carried the cross for jesus. Although it may seem like Simon was carrying a cross for a man condemned to die, jesus was the one carrying the cross for simon and all us sinners. We are the ones condemned to die. Jesus is the one who saved us. Now we must take up our cross and bring as many people to our lord as we can. Through pain and humiliation and suffering. Bear it all for our lord who gave us eternal life.

Satan was trying to stop Jesus from dying on the cross and fulfilling those prophecies from the beginning of time through many different Events. Maybe Jesus's weakness at the time on the road and his almost dying right there on the road would have stopped him from being crucified and taking that curse for us so God intervened with Simon.

This is such a beautiful talk, that allow for great realizations. In 2020, I was tasked by the catholic church I serve at to have this station of the cross be commissioned for our annual Holy Week procession, and I've made it a point to learn more about the lives of Simon the Cyrenean, the guard that tasked him to carry the cross, and of course, Jesus Christ himself.
From this, I love the theory that Simon could've been the angel on Earth that passed by at the perfect time to "save Jesus from death," while also believing that the guard exemplified an act of compassion in tasking him with this challenge, not only to prolong Jesus's torture, but to ease his burden even for just a moment.
I also love the point about Simon carrying the cross behind Jesus to show his discipleship, as well as the reminder that our crosses get heavy at unexpected times, yet we must carry on the heavy task and be ready for it.

I lasted like 10 sec or less. And woke up gasping for air and crying because I felt that need for salvation for people... the burden Jesus had to carry was more than just the physical pain he had... it was more pain and sorrow than we can comprehend. though Jesus was in human form he wouldnt have been able to go the whole way if He wasnt the Son of God. And even then, the help Simon provided was monumental to provide an example that God cant answer prayers that aren't prayed for... he needs us... he needs us to take part in His work... Simon’s unwilling help is so important to humanity. He was changed forever after he committed himself to help Jesus, even though under duress. He didn’t know Jesus but compassion of the Spirit ignited inside him on their short horrific journey together.
There are many Simons in our world today. They have unseen compassion that once realized will bring God’s Kingdom here on Earth.
The inclusion of Simon of Cyrene in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke is very important to humanity, especially now.
I don’t know why John left Simon out of his Gospel.

Thank you Desiring God for the question and the explanation.
It took my attention when you mentioned about the Lord's prayer and what you have argued at desiring God (8:35 in vid). I read the scriptures in Matthew 26.
39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup *pass from me*: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not *pass away* from me, except *I drink it*, thy will be done.
The impression i have when i read the words "pass from me", "pass away" and "except I drink it', I get the impression that the plea is for avoidance and the second prayer says "except I drink it" meaning to take it or accept it confirms that the initial plea is for avoidance.
So I was not getting the point 8:35 because the plea was to pass the cup - to avoid it.
If you can explain or redirect me to resources, I'll be thankful.

The significance is so clearly found in Galatians 6:2 bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. It's also why Jesus demonstrated washing the disciples feet, it's an act of being humble serving one another. Sadly the modern church frowns upon works and shares a watered down gospel that most are seduced by and serve a building that God is not in, it is WE who are the temples for the holy spirit. Romans 8:9 says without the spirit you are none of His, you can not enter the kingdom if you are not reborn of spirit. Do you have ears to hear what the Spirit says?

what if the Simon that carried the cross was also the first martyr. Its good that we have to go on facts. Today is Good Friday for us. I was actually wondering about this exact question in church. There is so much information here that we can run with. For instance, it is always said that God does not intend for us to walk this Christian journey alone, so what if Simon's assistance was an illustration of that. Then again, what if this foreigner, who knew nothing of Jesus, was saved through this action. God always ensures to reach everyone as they need. Can you imagine visiting a city, seeing a commotion, and then assisting this man who was battered beyond recognition. Of course you would as "what did he do?" God must have put the right person in place to answer. Jesus died for me, because of me and so many others. Our Heavenly Father put in place soooo many things just so we would not be lost, so that we can keep the faith..... The love of God is amazing. I wouldn't have hope without Jesus' death and resurrection. Bless God. Thank you Jesus.

    • @leighb.8508
      @leighb.8508 5 лет назад

Everyone is free to take their own life if they want (except during the tribulation), so why does he think we have no control? Jesus had control over His death and He chose to die for our sins. "I" choose to live for Christ, and Judas and King Saul chose to kill themselves for "self." Where is the lack of control?

    • @DG-mv6zw
      @DG-mv6zw 5 лет назад +1

Not sure what you mean by "control over our death"? If you mean suicide, then essentially this is an act of cosmic rebellion against God since we are made in God's image. To say my life is worthless, life has no meaning or my problems are beyond help, is actually to call God a liar. Scripture reminds us we do not belong to ourselves, and that we were bought with a price, and that we are temples of the Holy Spirit. Murder is forbidden. Suicide is self murder. God gives, God takes away. Suicide among the unbelievers puts an abrupt end to the possibility of salvation, since salvation cannot be offered to a person post mortem. Satan loves this solution.

Who carried the cross was it Simon or Jesus?
John 19:17 So the soldiers took charge of Jesus.17 CARRYING HIS OWN CROSS, HE WENT OUT TO THE PLACE OF THE SKULL (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others-one on each side and Jesus in the middle
Matthew 27:31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. 32 AS THEY WERE GOING OUT, THEY MET A MAN they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross. 33 They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).

Let's not imagine multiple scenarios and focus on the truth for the answer. If Jesus could possibly die from exhaustion he would have given in during 40 days and 40 nights. Jesus being the truth, spoke an absolute truth in John 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
So therefore keeping the commandments of the Father, nothing, not a Roman soldier nor exhaustion could overcome the power given him. That verse says he received it. Now Proverbs 21:1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will....
They were moved to have specifically Simon to do this by the supreme rule of God for the purpose of a spiritual understanding. No one picks up their cross and walks in front of Jesus Christ spiritually. He is the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last. You, me, no one can be first beyond his supreme authority and sovereignty of GOD. The cross we pick up and carry is his cross which he died on for us if we choose to follow him and make it our own. The rest about why a Simon was the specific individual choosen is for only God to reveal to you.

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke state that Simon of Cyerne carried the cross but the Gospel of John states "Joh 19:17 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull". Why the discrepancy?

    • @TwitchyThelogian

Because Jesus did carry His cross but then needed help. I assume. Think of this if you me and 2 other people seen a wreck. Then 30 or 40 years later we wrote down what we remember from the wreck there will be a difference in the details. However it doesnt change the fact there was a wreck. See what I'm saying?

Jesus certainly carried the cross bar. “Bearing” the cross could well be something subtly different. It wouldn’t dismiss Simon aiding Christ in the carrying.

Makes me think of the Martyrs that have gone before us and their faith to resist the temptation to recant their Lord and Savior. John makes the point that Jesus was at this point, I,m not sure I am comfortable with the God who became man being so close to falling into temptation. If John is correct it further describes the inconceivable torment of God in the person of Christ is bearing not just death but the filth of the sin of mankind. If you can begin to understand "REPENT" and sing "What a friend we have in Jesus" weep for your sin, cry for the agony you caused, your LORD pray for those who are attending church and feeling good about themselves. Be repulsed by so called Christians who think they are righteous without repenting daily and the demons who preach and feed their delusions.

Read genesis 49 and Joshua 19 Simeon which can be also translated to Simon lost his inheritance and was blended into judah. This happened because of the first heathens that was Circumcise was killed by him and Levi however levi did not lose his inheritance. Because Levi's inheritance was God. Simon's inheritance was that of Judah. And we see Simeon also known as Simon carrying the cross. Still bearing that inheritance. The word of God said a good name is a blessing. There is more to dig in. My name is Jemuel it came from the firstborn of Simeon. So I was curious about his inheritance and found this that it was lost and to be in judah. Notice when you mention the 12 tribes of Israel Simeon's tribe is never mentioned ponder on that.

Let us not celebrate the torture and murder of an innocent being, that we might escape all responsibility for our actions, while we continue to act any way we choose - no matter how contrived and fictitious it may be. Let us rather celebrate one another for the love that is within us, and that we might share - while deeming each and every one of us worthy before our own eyes, and before the eyes of the universe.
