I have been searching for an easy way to make a rectangle bottom bag, this is an excellent and easy pattern. I can’t wait to try it. Heading to my scrap yarn right after this post. I’ll let you know how it comes out. 😊 Thank You!
That is wonderful. I will actually be releasing another easy flat bottom design later this spring that is also very easy and can create an even wider bottom.
I like so many of the features of this bag. I like the box bottom, the straps on the sides, the rope for the handles. My favorite part is using scrap yarn. Thanks for the project.
Cute bag. Crocheting the sides of the bag adds stability to the bag. I hang mine on the head rest of my car, keeps all my emergency stuff in one place and easily accessible. Again cute bag, I'm making one. Thank you 😊
Just from watching (and maybe because I'm not the best at sewing) I feel like crotcheting the sides and the loop for the rope looks easier! I might change my mind when I try it 😂
Nice! I’m going to make one. I’ve already made a thick scrapghan using double thickness of yarn (RUclipsr Darlene Michaud’s method), and now I think a I’ll make a bag. I was fussing around trying to learn how to crochet an oval bottom, but I like your method of box stitching a bottom. Wish me luck! 😊 Thank you for the video.
I am glad to hear that. I really love simple patterns that have a clever twist. Just make a longer starting chain and make it taller. Remember that the width of your project should be the equal to the width of the front and one side of your bag.
I crocheted a market bag over the winter of 2021-22 to weaR summer of 2022 - but did not LOVE it. Got many compliments - but I just don't LOVE it. Plus too stretchy. I LIKE this folded bag technique - just not the handle. I'm going to crochet or knit an i-chain for the handle. Also liked your 'ragg ' cakes'! tfs!
Acrylic yarn is stretchy. If you use cotton yarn it will have less stretch, but most people have more acrylic yarn scarps. An I-chain handle would be nice.
You are welcome. I have another take on this bag that I will be doing later this spring. It will be a different style but still be one piece with a flat bottom, worked flat.
This is really cute, I love it! I will definitely have to try making one. May I ask where you purchased the rope? I have no idea where to look! Thank you so much for this tutorial!
It is an easy way to make it flat bottom. I wanted to keep the video short, but in the future I would love to do a video showing how to figure out the measurements to use this technique to make any size bag with any width.
Hi! I just finished making my first scrap yarn bag, using your tutorial. I didn’t have that measuring tool you used to measure for the stitch to turn the bag into a flat bottom.I just used a measuring tape and followed your directions. I think it turned out ok. But I have question. You didn’t show what the inside of the bag looked like once sewn. My 2 inch stitch triangle flapped around so attached the with some slip stitches to sides of the bag. This made the bag a little sturdier to stand up. I don’t know if I’m making sense. I really enjoyed the process of making this bag. 😊
The little triangle are suppose to be on the side of the bag but I have seen them left on the outside as well. You can either sew them to the bottom of the bag or to the side. Both ways work.
I'm not done yet but I have done everything you said to do but when I put it together it definitely does not look like a bag. I feel like I have done something wrong. But this is my first time making one so I know it probably won't come out exactly the way it supposed to. I'm just gonna go head and finish it and see what happens. I love this video thank you.
Can you explain what doesn't make it look like a bag? It is a simple rectangle that we will crochet the edges together to make a bag shape then slip stitch the corners to give it a flat bottom. You could sew the sides together and sew the corners if you like. If you remain stuck, just leave a new comment and let me know what it does look like.
Here are the written instructions. www.windingroadcrochet.com/crochet-scraps-bag-free-pattern I used a size H hook and yes you can make it a solid color.
Can you explain that better. I am not sure how you would save yarn by folding it a different direction. I also think that would make sewing the bottom harder.
I believe it is called a quilter's square. You can find them in the quilting/fabric section of the craft store. I also like to use it for checking gauge because it holds the swatch flat and doesn't stretch it.
A great way to use my scrap yarn. Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome!
Fantastic!!!! Reminds me of the vintage bags from 60s & 70s...a time that I treasured. Thanks so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Very cute🎉excellent teacher ❤for me beginners. Many thanks
You’re welcome 😊 That means a lot.
I love the scrappy look! Great project for using up those smaller leftovers.
Yes it is and we all have those scraps hanging around.
Thank you that was fun easy and fast! I made bags for my granddaughter and nieces! They have taken them everywhere! So thank you for the smiles 😊
You are so welcome!
Love scrappy projects. And who doesn't love no-sew!!
For a beginner, sewing this one maybe easier, but I thought making it no sew would be fun.
What a great way to use up scraps! Thank you! Your videos are wonderful!
You are welcome. I just love scrap projects.
Beautiful purse!!! I made TWO of them already and am planning on making more!!! 💖
They make good project bags as well.
Very nice! I hope to make one. I at least want to use the idea of the rope. And thx 4 showing how to make a flat bottom. 🙂
You are welcome 😊 I like to use this trick often. It works with fabric too, to make a liner.
This is a great way to use up scraps. This bag turned out really great. Can’t wait to make one. Thanks
Thanks so much!

Great idea!!
I watched the video & I'm anxious to make myself a bag now. Thank you for sharing. You're easy to follow plus easy to listen too 🌻😊🌻
Thank you, that means a lot. I really try to make sure the sound quality is good and that I don't get squeaky or anything when I talk.
Just from watching (and maybe because I'm not the best at sewing) I feel like crotcheting the sides and the loop for the rope looks easier! I might change my mind when I try it 😂
I wanted to make a pattern that had no sewing, but sewing up the sides and edges works too. It is just your choice how to do it.
Very nice instructions on this bag! Easy emough to follow. Love how step by step she went. I will try making this bag. Love the hobo bag look.😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing this tutorial, I am making one for myself. 👍🏻👍🏻
Go for it!

Thank you! 😊 It is a great way to use up left over scraps.
Very nice and easy tutorial.simple way to teach.thank you.

Love the scrap bag and maybe I can do them a little bigger for our grocery....

I have found that using 2 strands looks even better because as you join a new color, it’s not so noticeable - it just blends.
That is true!
Adorable❣️❣️❣️ I absolutely love the flat bottom❣️❣️❣️ Thanks So Much for sharing your talent👏🤗👍
You are welcome. I have another take on this bag that I will be doing later this spring. It will be a different style but still be one piece with a flat bottom, worked flat.
Now I know what to do with my scrap pieces of yarn. The surgical knot advice is a huge bonus. Thank you!

Just finished making this bag…..well my handle is different. Thanks for sharing!
Great job!
Once again great tutorial. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
This is really cute, I love it! I will definitely have to try making one. May I ask where you purchased the rope? I have no idea where to look! Thank you so much for this tutorial!
There is a link in the written pattern post. But I use dritz cotton rope that I find in the sewing or curtain section at my local craft store.
I'm making one now. I don't have access to my scraps so used a "scrappy" type yarn instead. The effect is the same.
lovely
Love it!! Can’t wait to make it!! Thank you!!

Love it! Interesting construction. I am definitely going to make this. Thank you

Super cute bag! We all have plenty of scraps. What type of cake winder do you use?
Just one off of amazon. The brand was a bit odd.
I luv this idea
Thanks
That's pretty cool ! 💜
Thank you
Nice bag. I'm going to try this.

Do you know how to add a pocket inside the bag after you line it?
Wonderful!!

Just for reference, in the UK size H hook is 5mm and worsted weight yarn is Aran...
Thank you
Thank you
You're welcome
Can this be made in a solid color, what size hook are you using and are there any written directions for this bag???
Here are the written instructions. www.windingroadcrochet.com/crochet-scraps-bag-free-pattern I used a size H hook and yes you can make it a solid color.
Ohhhhh I love
Thanks!
Cute!
Thanks.
nice one thanks for sharing video

ممتاز جدا ❤
Thank you
I was wondering instead of folding it hotdog style could you fold it hamburger style and save some time and yarn?
Can you explain that better. I am not sure how you would save yarn by folding it a different direction. I also think that would make sewing the bottom harder.
I'm making it now how many inches is the Leigh
Finished bag is 12″ wide x 10″ tall x 2″ deep. When crocheting the base (before sewing the corners) the bag will be 14 inches wide.
Hi which size crochet hook you used please
I believe it is a size H 5 mm.
What kind of ruler are you using when you measured the corner?
I believe it is called a quilter's square. You can find them in the quilting/fabric section of the craft store. I also like to use it for checking gauge because it holds the swatch flat and doesn't stretch it.
😍😍😍
Ya!
How many chains

@@WindingRoadCrochet thank you for your video I crotches bags and beans for my children and sisters
