    I have a 2015 110. Its never let me down and works a treat. having had Defenders for 30yrs in different guises, this one is the best by far.

      I agree 👍 and it may not surprise you to learn it has been the most reliable (and lowest cost of maintenance so far) vehicle in our fleet 😎 (except the Acadiane of course 😊)

    Your 110 is exactly the same as mine. It’s such a cool car, but man, it earns its living. It does almost anything we ask of it. Your so right about the cubby box 😀 almost everything goes in there. Enjoy your defender. I love driving mine every day

    Wheel spacers: you will know if bearings are overloaded only in a few years. Tires: I am also VERY happy with the Continental tires. Engine oil: it DOES make a difference. I have stopped taking mine to the dealer for the reason you say, however, not so much to save money, but because no-one has the same care I have for my vehicle. For example, I installed magnetic drain plugs on the differentials. Tow bar: where did you get that? I got it from the factory and is far too high fro most trailers. Carpet: I have LR rubber mats all over the place from the start: good choice, they are like new after 5 years. Cubby box: I find it useful - JUST for the stuff you need to carry and do not need every day! Steering wheel: I have a leather-like cover to make it larger, for my hands this is better. Engining "hanging on the rpm" when shifting: mine does it too, it is normal: the turbo lag. In fact, if you get used to it, it makes gear shifting smoother.
    My conclusion: never had a problem, driven in all conditions. Excellent vehicle. happy with the purchase

      Tow bar is factory-fit. If I recall correctly you could spec an adjustable one, however, still too high for 'normal' trailers...
      It's a good vehicle. Built for purpose. And yes - reliable...

    i picked up a 1000 kg of stone from a local quarry in my td5 90, twisting country lanes all the way back, the drive was vastly improved smooth and planted.....not a practical modification though.

      @@flight2k5 yes...went on the weighbridge for proof...i wouldn't suggest it on a regular basis and you don't drive like a maniac...not that you should ever go to fast in a defender.

      lapisredux I have a hard time believing a yard of gravel will fit in a d90. It fills the bed of a truck with an 8 foot bed.

    Love that machine man if wishes were horses beggars could have ridden them but as things stand now am waiting upon heaven once again i love it and I mean from the bottom of my heart

    Great vid. I had a 300 TDI 90 it was bullet proof had more rust than others due to launching boats in the sea - top tip don't put them in the sea. Also used several 110 TDI 300 in Botswana - Chobe and Okavango never worried about reliability as long as the timing mod belt was done. Now have a 2015 110 2.2 great improvement but don't have the same faith in it as the 300TDI. Just the electronics in them. I also have a 200TDI discovery 1 (couldn't afford a Defender equivalent - Discovery 1 = a very underrated and undervalued machine). If you're doing long drives in your Puma consider getting a cruise control kit - makes a huge difference on long journeys no more aching accelerator foot. Costs £300 for the kit in the UK really easy to fit yourself - I don't sell them have no link with the supplier but one of my favourite mods and I've done a lot of mods.

      Thanks for the comment 👍 Sounds like you've been around... Disco 1 absolutely, loved my old one until we had to let it go... Our old 110Tdi has a bigger grin-factor in my opinion - just enough power to surprise sometimes, not too much to get into trouble. It's old, stuff wears out and breaks but you can fix it yourself and you understand what went wrong - unlike a Puma. Keep rollin' (en hou die blink kant bo... Afrikaans expression seeing as you spent some time there))🤘🚙😎

    I also have a defender puma MY 2015. I encountered the same issue with the little red light on the dash this summer for the first time. I changed the battery from the remote control on the key fob and now it is fine.

    I was always resistant to getting a tdci /Puma, but not because of the engine. It was the lack of bulkhead vents that put me off. To me that was a link back to the original series vehicles. During a search for a 110 CSW TD5 I started to look at some Pumas as the TD5 s just weren't showing up, at least not in good enough condition. So I bought the tdci. It has been a revelation! Motorway speeds with the full family in there and I can hear the radio or the kids arguing. MPG is decent about town too. It's a great Landy.

    My 2010 2.4 Puma is a great car. It is what it is and in my opinion still has more than enough charm and character to offset those rough edges that Land Rovers are famous for. Sad really that there isn’t really a Defender for the future as I write in 2022.

    Hello to all my fellow Landy owners I have a 2012 110 puma . Had baught it brand new from dealer IV had 12 years now and in first 3 years all the clear has come of the roof and some part of the body only now I have had some issues with it such as intercooler split have replaced it and also turbo had failed also replaced other than that everything else has held up well I still love my Landy IV looked after it quite tentatively it only done 147000 K so I hope it will see it thru the next ten years

    We have an Land Rover Defender which is the rare Adventure Edition. It has right about 30k km on the clock. We did some modifications like a roof rack or we tuned it to 190 whp and 430nm of tourque and it has done a good Job so far in the 3 years of owner ship.

    Greetings from South Africa. As a blind person, if I had to choose between the 2.2l and 2.4l Puma engines I would go for the 2.4l engine any day. The 2.2l doesn't have a distinct diesel sound compared to the 2.4l. Although I enjoy the diesel sound of the 2.4l, yes, it doesn't sound as iconic as a 300tdi which is my ultimate first choice for a defender 110 double cab with the 2.4l Puma in second place.

      I have to say, the starter on the 200tdi sounds more modern than a 300tdi starter on start up. I would have expected a 300tdi starter to sound more modern than a 200tdi starter, although both engines are more mechanical.

    On my 95 300tdi 110 I can confidently take my hands off the wheel while on the motorway, it's very competent and well balanced. On my last one, a td5, I could have never of done that it'd veer off!

    Ive got a very similar 110 XS I bought in 2014 and I still enjoy driving, the seats are the full leather like yours and are super comfy, my centre cubby is a black hole full of everything. I don’t put stuff on top of the dash anymore because of going around a corner with the windows open, my glasses shot outside! The light on the dash, I believe has something to do with the alarm/imoboliser, it flashes all night. When its stayed on in the past, I find switching the ignition off and back on again will usually fix it.

      ☝sounds very familier 😅 Dash light was the immobiliser battery in the end. Good piece of kit is the Puma👍 And, yes, I have lost sunglasses from the top of dash 😂

    I enjoyed your fair report. My 2.4 which I bought in 2007 has never given me the slightest trouble until very recently when it developed a TX box leak-100ml per 1000miles. It pulls like a train with 4 tons of sand and is perfectly Autobahn capable. I still love it but just a bit hacked off that Germany (where I live) are about to ban it.

    The red light on the dash is the immobiliser warning. Eventually the central locking starts to play up, happened to one of mine and it used to take ages to lock and unlock. Can be done on warranty though.

      I replaced the battery on the key fob. Problem solved.
      Still prefer the old Tdi with one electric device on the engine!

      Lock the car with the fob, then check if all the doors are locked! The wire loom to the two back doors eventually get crimped and cut inside the flexitube resulting in the doors not locking and accidental alarm. Easy fix is the solder them back together and insulate with shrink wrap

    I'm really enjoying my 07 Puma that I bought this March. It's a such a civilized car for a Landy. It has 211,000km now and the engine seems to be very happy. I'm so grateful to the previous owner, I would say it's in better condition than this one. Which is astounding considering it was clearly used for overlanding.

      🤟😃nice! And true - a Puma is a different animal to an old Tdi or even an NA. Much smoother and 'enough' power (in Rolls-speak: adequate, sir)😉

    2013 HCPU 130, 2.2L puma 75000 klm. THANK GOD I don't have teir 4. Have blown every induction hose from the turbo to the inlet manifold once. Recall on seat retainer bolts, recall on engine oil pump, recall on front axle welds. Every door handle has fallen off once. The interior floor trim and underlay has completly desintegrated even in places that dont get wear, rear widows wind themselves down, AC freezes up after an hour, coolant blows out through the header tank cap, on the third cap. All shockies fell to bits, tyres were replaced at 72000 klm rotated every 10000 with the spare. Water and dust leak from every oriface in the cab. But hey its a Defender I did not exspect anything more. Cheers mate 🍻 Now you know why Defender drivers wave at each other 🤣

      @@markpolich7422 actualy its had a fairly easy life in fact it has only ever been dry bogged once, its just aging disgracefully. Thankfully it has not started to mark its territory yet, mostly it just does not like the hot North Queensland sun. For all its faults I have always got home all be it slowly when de rated.     That little red light is notification of immobiliser in standby mode, when you turn the ignition off but don't press the lock button on your key fob, the immobiliser goes into a standby mode. So even though you haven't locked the car, press the unlock button again and it will go off.

    These need the output shaft (gearbox/transfer case) upgrade to a heavy duty self lubricating otherwise it strip the spline when towing. The OEM is weak and unlubricated. Also recommend upgrading the rear drive axles and hubs to prevent failure. Finally, replace all turbo and intercooler hoses with after market silicon. The OEM hoses are guaranteed to split, balloon and pop off.

      Yes - good points 👍. And yeah... the output shaft 'extender' for the gearbox - great (lazy) design 👌😂. These vehicles all seem to need 'finishing off' of the factory product by the customer...

    Charming had 10 of them between 98 to 14 .second hand value high sold my 14 and got exactly the same i paid for it! Bought a new hilux ,in my opinion a
    much better car for my work,much better quality but boring 😂 there were all kinds of weird problems with Lrs over the year but nothing serious.
    Lr rust like hell and alu and steel combo isnt the best mix thats for sure.i wouldnt want to crash in it either .the best with lr is the sturdy chassie ,very capable .

      Any favourites out those 10? We had a '85 (very good one), our '93 and the '15. '93 remains first choice as an 'unboring' experience 😊😎👍 Yes - Hilux is a better vehicle, no question, but of course 😴

      I would say that the only one they put together properly was the 14 ,no issues with that one ,but it took 9 between 👍 as you get older you become more boring and just want no problems thats when you become Toyota owner.a happy one.cheers

    Great review man - one thing though, and you being a Zaffer should know this car well - the Lada Niva was first built in 1977 and hasn't changed once (still the exact same shell) since then right up to the brand new models coming out of the factory now.

    Those oil changes are harsh bru. I also don't go to Land Rover dealership. I use LIQUI MOLY 5W-30 in my 2.4 puma. Next time do the oil change yourself. There's just something about working on your landy that's enjoyable and can take pride in.

    Awesome car even with its quirks and stupid bits its the best car to have. Btw yours is very clean, well maintained it seems. I wish they were more avaialble in canada. Ill have to import one in the spring. Cant wait to build it up :D.

    With your red light on the dash, not sure if you have tried changing the key fob battery and whether that rectified the issue. However, I have the same light and found that it only comes on when you have unlocked the Landy but then there is a slight time delay in turning the ignition the light will illuminate on the dash. Once you turn the engine on, the light remains. I found that if you see the red light, click the unlock button on the key fob (key out of the barrel / ignition not on) either once (hazards flash) or twice (if you have a low key fob battery), this should make the solid red light turn to a rapid flash which I think goes off after a few fast flashes (can't remember :) ). After clicking the unlock button and the solid red light flashes, put the key in the ignition and start the Landy :) hopefully without the infamous red light. Hope this makes sense!!!!!

      Yes! Sort of... Will need to do a longer term test because it's pretty random right now: push unlock, open the door, light flashes on dash, click again twice and light goes off - but not always.... I've had it when others unlock the door with the key only and the alarm goes off! Work in progress (as usual). Thanks, will drive another month or so and give an update

    Little to no change but yet it costs you an arm and a leg, obviously just for those who can afford it. Still using old factory parts that were manufactured way back in the day but still commanding astronomical prices.

      From your name I'm guessing you're in SA?
      Arguably a bit more limited in amount of vehicles available - but RHD!
      In Europe, you're looking at €6000plus atmo... But parts can be pretty cheap - if you're willing to take a chance, or two, with the knock-offs😬😅 And they do ship worldwide anyway, right?
      A rusty-resto - even a Series 3 - doesn't need to cost very much to get to 'runner' stage...
      Our 110 has been surprisingly reliable (being our sole daily driver as well).

    The red light is the immobiliser light because you’ve left the vehicle unlocked for a prolonged period of time. Press the unlock button on your key fob and it will go off.

      @@ASimplyFabLife Also another anomaly is that alarm does not disengage after unlocking or the car does not start as the immobiliser is in a state of utter confusion. Simply lock and unlock the car between 4 and 6 times and it should be good. I did hear a story that one person had to do it 10 times. But we had it happen 3 times. And it worked treat.

    I love my defender 110 adventure, but recently 10 bolts sheared off the rear centre diff.......10! I believe theres only 16 total. Only 45K kms also. Go figure that one out.

    We must understand , when we bay a Defender, direct out from Sollihull , we have only received a 50 % complete car :-). The last 50% , you have to do on your own. And as I can see , you have done nothing too make it more customized for your personal use. I have a -13 mod. , and it is customized for my use.( F.eks. engine have MORE horsepower , the gearshift is changed to Syncro Gearboxes "Slick-Shift" +++) and I have almost 120000km `on the clock` .
    And therefor there is no one (Land Rover Serie/Defender ) who is the same in the world. And I have been with LR since 1986 ( Series , Defender , Disco and my wife`s Freelander II, and know that LR products is not the most reliable :-) But I love them :-) Happy Land Rover`ing

      Tours and Tales.com a little tip regarding the wear of the front floor mats: Buy yourself 2 small sized hand woven Persians mats at Ikea. Cheap and sturdy as hell.

    Thats a strange story about the aerial breaking off ! WOW ! , I have the same vehicle Mine pushes down before washing down the vehicle . Really easy to do . the light on the dash ! WOW , That would really worry me .too Or If my windows need winding up , I prepare the vehicle for lock down Before turning the Key . I shall have to make a few notes about the problems you suffer with .and Call it " Common Knowledge " - Thanks for the heads up .

      Another 'minor point of worry' is the ignition lock on this one needs such a strong turn of the key to get it past 'insertion' to 'igniton' that I am always afraid it will break the key or the barrel.
      Never has let us down though... 😅

    When the new dashboard came out I really liked it, it was kind of fresh air. But I do not anymore, because I think is too bulky, it is trying to imitate the "modern" car design, I think now that LR should design something more "airy" you know, something more practical, as you said, with more pockets and space for stuff. And definitely the lost of the air flaps was a big mistake... I know they are a big problem in terms of rain leaking but was a big part of the charme... I don´t know...

      I agree - although it must have been tough for the LR engineers to 'design' something around a very old vehicle. With no budget. Trying to steer it away from its roots as a basic utilitarian/military truck towards something with 'comfort' - you find yourself in a corner, with the worst of both worlds sadly.

    Great vid, I could do with some advice, I test drove a 2010 110 the other day, I struggled to get 40 mph out of the thing, it was like driving a cross between a bus and a tank, is this normal? I wasn’t expecting it to drive like my current Freelander 2 but it was awful, it’s kind of put me off getting any form of Defender.

      Thanks for your comment. I'll try and give you some of my own experiences (the 2.2 as in the video is basically the same as the 2.4 you test drove). You should be getting a similar experience to a 10/20 year -old van. Similar engine, similar weight, similar performance.
      Freeway speeds of up to 80 mph are quite achievable in a Puma without too much effort (albeit loud with a lot of tyre, wind and some engine noise). It is a bouncy ride (depending on the suspension used) and of course, you're sitting right next to the door...
      Build quality seems dicey at best with clanging of doors and wobbly body panels. But it all hangs together for decades somehow.
      Gearbox will not be rushed (mainly due to the transfer box and axles) so delay your gear changes for smoother progress.
      I don't want to ask the obvious question, but just for arguments' sake: were you in low range? Because 40mph sounds like a stock 2.25 from the eighties... A Puma is a rocket ship in comparison so it sounds like something is (was) wrong on the one you drove.
      If you would like a contrast, grab a Tdi or and older TD to get a feel for the earlier (lack of) power that formed the base of the Defender... Hope it helps!

      Thanks! Seats are (were😊) factory option on the Defender - full leather (also the rear seats) and of course removable seat cushion to get at the battery... Although quite narrow - very comfortable 👍

    That service price is ridiculous. We get our 2015 services for under $200AU at a dealership (keeping it in warranty). Now with 120k on the odo since new including numerous outback trips it's been flawless except the stability control/traction control light coming on randomly.

      your wasting money,theres nothing to service,oil,filters,thats it,will take you 1/2 hr on your own,warranty is good till it finishes,then they brake.extended warranty is a giant rip off.plus how do you know they serviced it,its a rought,did they change the oil & all the filters,unless you mark items so they cant notice it,you dont know.its rife in aus..mate took his xr turbo for warranty service art fords,put a hair across the door,it was still there when he picked it up,never went back.the paper is worth more than service depts.

      Here's a couple of thoughts below...
      1. Rule no.1 - Keep that smile on your face (not hard to do in a Landy...)
      2. Wave back at the others out there ( they're in the same boat)
      3. Get your gear-change game sorted, keep it as smooth as you can!
      Cannot understate this.
      4. You might think so but it is not a tank. Although far more capable than the average car - things can and will break if not treated with some amount of mechanical sympathy

      6. Spacers on a 90... Not strictly necessary unless you're going super-wide with your tyre choice, or your offset is minimal. But if you do - important to tighten the wheel nuts to spec.
      7. Don't be surprised or disappointed if something goes wrong - and someday it will.
      Just shrug and go with it...
      8. It's a lottery - all Defenders are different, luck of the draw... Some are actually good ! ;-)
      9. Be aware that it is a virus... Incurable
      !
      10. Enjoy dude - go back to rule no.1

      I’ve got a long list
      Look at the Land Rover Defender forums you get loads of help and tips
      If you’re keeping it get the whole chassis, doors and bulkhead protected with something like waxoyl
      To my knowledge all Pumas have a design fault with the output shaft to the transfer box where the flanges wear and eventually you lose all drive. Excessive drive train clunking is a sign of this but there is loads of info on forums
      All the door hinge bolts, light screws, front grill, light surrounds rear cross member bolts where it bolts the body, bonnet bolts change for stainless. Consider security stainless bolts for the doors
      Windscreen brackets once the paint starts flaking change for anodised ali ones
      When door hinges rot change for a better after market version
      Consider fitting extra trim in the wheel arches to to stop the mud, salt water hitting the rear cross member and out riggers there is a UK company that makes these
      Fit a slick shift on the gear change - make sure you tape over the metal shaft and put grease in the gear stick otherwise it will introduce rattles
      remap
      some pumas blew intercooler hoses off make sure Landrover has done the mod to fix this - have a feeling it was on the 2.2
      Led upgrade all lights including headlights - get a decent flasher unit if you tow so it will work with light boards with traditional bulbs
      I changed all the floor door trim bits for stainless
      Consider a snow cowl for the heater intake also stops mud and rain
      Cruise control - that works so well in a Puma Defender makes long journeys a pleasure
      Security - a lot of mods to make them secure I don’t really want to list them here but you can always contact me just be aware they are easy to steal in factory spec

      ​@@ammaarsayed8339 just mud, water and road salt will rust it over time. It's well worth investing is some decent rust treatment especially if want to keep the vehicle. Yeah the mod list is long I've done a lot more than listed but the post would just go on and on....

    Trade it in on a 80 series cruiser
    .. you will never look back , I was landy through and through. Then had enough of being cold , leaving oil everywhere etc etc and bought a 80 series .. my god what a machine can't pick one fault with it

      i can,i see them in the shop with stupid defects to be fixed,better with a gu.,personally,i dont like either ,but choice would be nissan,..toyota,cant turbo a non turbo,engine box too weak,wheel brearings come loose all the time due to 1940 s,bearing retainer washer,shim,rubbish,too many leafs,too short,coils better but not fixed to mounts,come out often,leafs,allways getting leaf lock,??,why,too arced too short,.power,90kw,.??.a 1600 has 90kw..engine,old school design,never changed,just keep flogging the same horse.price,over priced,under powered,thin steel,.best thing on them is fit & finnish,but thats just show.the drive line is dog legged thru transfer,?,why,it should be streight drive,then dog leg to front diff,less mechanical internals to stuff up.thats why you get that chang chang sound when stalled or too little revs.wheels,can not fit 35".std.unless raise & change diff ratios to 4.8.so it can turn them.plus,toyota have you,if you want an upgrade,its in the next model,& most times doesnt fit the previous...79 series,they only made a new front for the ''v8''garb,,same rear,to fix that ,around 10k..toyota rely on reliablilty by makeing cars not powerfull enough to break anything,.if they upgrade the power ,they have to re engineer everything.my transfer & gearbox are the same from 1965 to 2000,& were made to take 400 hp.not 90kw.cant beat dana spicer,period.!!.land rover are crap.!.we do services on a guys,retired,landcrusier,he prospects,wont say where,he buys a new l/c every 2 yrs,fits it out with all the same gear,,.IF,,there so good,he should still have the first one,,yes,??.our mechanic boss,was landi,but learnt,then got a steel deal on a gu tray back,4.2tdi,now he laughs at landi.s...ill keep my super duty 4.2tdi,145 lt tank,12 lt 100,ohc,3 valves,no glow plugs,3" system,all std,.buy & drive,.25k buy,.cab tray,.german diesel.165 kw,700nm.tdo6 turbo.i fitted.very small turbo.35" tires,4.11 diffs,weighs 4t.!!.cus has a 110,.my first low is better than his,with the 35' tires.!!.next ill be buying a jk rubicon jeep.my be,see how they end up.but,it needs a diesel.cummins,or,?.4 cyl,that is,2.8,those coaster 4 cyls 4lt, seem o.k.,rather that than the 4.2,,more torque,less weight.

Doesn't leak oil .. in fact does nothing wrong at all .. Can't recommend it high enough . . Yes sure it was gutless at first but 5 mins of tweeking it will pull a house over ! .. as for land rover they have not one practical

    Just a note about the Defender driver pulling over, you have the wrong idea why this driver of the Defender pulled over, it's not only because of the reliability of the vehicle. And please don't give me that shit about how unreliable they are, as I know from experience you have no idea what your talking about. You maintain your vehicle and reliability will never be in question. And another thing, just because someone is under their landy doesn't mean its broke, it means that something is being replaced before it breaks. Rant over.
    Being a long term landy owner myself (10 years ownership so I think I'm qualified to speak) I have a 300tdi 110 CSW, when you purchase a landy, that being a Defender, you basically get automatically enrolled into the Land Rover Defender Appreciation Society as standard, this club, although it's not mentioned anywhere, We Defender drivers appreciate the Heritage of the Defender, being originally targeted at Farmers, working their fields and hauling loads to and from farmers markets etc etc, if a Defender was on the side of the road with the bonnet lifted, the majority of Defender owners would pull over and offer assistance, this is similar to owning a Motorcycle, that club where you pass another motorcyclist and you do the nod. I'm sure you've seen that nod between motorcyclists.
    Defender ownership is the same, if you see another Defender coming in the opposite direction the chances are that both drivers will acknowledge each other usually with a wave or flash of main beam lights, It's a Landy Thing more often than not they don't know each other, and most will also start conversing with you if your say parked in a car park. It's a great club to be in, no admission fee necessary as ownership is the only requirement to join. So the next time a fellow Defender owner flashes or waves at you wave or flash back, because if you do breakdown or you see another Defender that appears to have broke down, offer assistance because when you need assistance yourself chances are it will come in the form of a Defender driver willing to help out a fellow member of this highly asteemed club.

      We are on our third LR in the space of ten years and our '93 Dakota is our daily driver, work truck and also campervan. We only own one vehicle so it is imperative that it remains operational (living out in the countryside as we do) and it has only stranded us once in five years and 80 000km throughout all of Europe (fuel solenoid), besides preventative maintenance and wear-and-tear after 350 000km's.
      This video tries to illustrate that the new Puma is better than you may expect regarding LR's reputation for reliability.

      @@Edgar-xh8iu You may be looking at the 2.4 then, which is pretty much the same as the 2.2 except the engine sounds quite a bit rougher imho... No major issues at all - in our experience. Never let us down, no leaks 😮 (which is rather unusual for a Landy). Only thing were a couple of front side light bulbs blown in 100k km.
      Engine and gearbox are from a Transit - so fairly bulletproof, however one potential issue is the connectiing rod between gearbox and transfer case (because the Ford unit is shorter). This is an unlubricated spacer, so look for rust leaks at the bottom). This rust corrosion 🧐to the splines can potentially leave you with no drive at all obviously... Other than there is the usual check for servicing intervals; and the environment it has been used in (of course). Hope this helps a bit in your decision. Cheers

The car engine allegedly “exploded” at 120,000km (could’ve been defect) and luckily enough it was replaced under warranty. It’s also been on a farm it’s entire life (used on country highways), so I’m not too worried about corrosion.

      That was a trip to Davos (with a family of five and all the luggage in the back) - when the 'reliable' Volvo (which needed a roofbox of course) let them down just before the trip.. Go figure that the Landy came to the rescue and has been the most reliable vehicle in the parking lot... Nice to hear about your Evoque (very nice car) and it has been a trusty companion!

      Our old 200Tdi has had a hard life travelling to Mongolia and half of Africa and more (by the previous owner - but we'll get there) and - despite the mileage - we have a blown headlight bulb, side repeater and some comment on emissions (which is out of our hands) at the yearly roadworthy.... Just had to share that and - need I say more on the subject of reliable Landys?

    Great review unfortunately I got an 2008 110,leaks like a sieve,everything rusting,no paint on the chassis,brakes failed last week due to pipes rusted through,I ve had to have the immobiliser taken out of the ecu,door hinges shot but I still love it but I don’t know why it’s a bag of sh#te which needs constant love, and I’ve had it from new!

    My parents had a V8 Land Rover long before it was called a defender, sliding windows, old style door handles, manual air vents that just opened up a big hole in the bulkhead, flip down side steps, big ash tray in the top of the dash, seriously basic stuff, which was the point. Land rovers were made for farmers and the army. They are not road cars.

      In my opinion the short answer is yes - same deal as a 110. But I could also argue that the 90 has an acceptable turning circle already - depending on your wheels. Our own 110 on eight-spokes without spacers runs this one pretty close due to the offset. Assuming 235's and not wider... And you need to consider bearing wear and CV's of course.

    To be fair, your avoiding one of the largest killers of Defenders, not living in a wet climate. Rust won't be so much of a problem, you should see 3yr old defenders in the UK, some 1980s have less rust.

    for any car srvice,never go to the dealer,even from new,just buy the car then run,!!.they will rip you off,by money or not doing the service.all disel grows microbes in the fuel,you need to use an inhibitor,or a lt or 2 of petrol,once in a while,no harm.a diesel will stand 20% petrol,per tank,..proven..diesel/petrol,come from the same ground..

    Disappointed td5, every time I get in a customer td5 I get a smile on my face a puma just has no power 1-2-3-4-5 and your at 30mph gearbox drive shaft fails at around 40k. And clutch springs pop out 50k

      Td5 is the best one they have ever made but If you get a electrical fault in the middle of nowhere you need some diagnostics
