Decor & fashions of that 40s & 50s era were so much more lovely than anything "post modern". Musicians actually were talented, people actually knew how to do their craft in home & workplace & creativity was unleashed for the most part. Parents taught skills to their children. Schools taught children useful skills & civics, shop & hom economics, and gym classes were for physical fitness. Recess twice a day so kids could blow off steam as well. Children had to actually standard levels of achievement to graduate. Family life wasn't an odd concept. You had chores. You played outside until the streetlights came on. You had a regular bedtime. You got to stay up on special occasions only. Your goofy parents had BBQs & cocktail parties the neighbors came to that you snuck peek at. You got to go downtown & see the big department store display windows at Christmas time that were amazing, as the stores were trying to out do each other! You got to go to sledding & get hot cider at the cider mill. You got to go to matinee shows at the Main Street theater. You got to go to drive ins MOVIES, drive in A&W, drive in Big Boy, with car hops. You got to see the guys run out at the gas station & service your car as your gas tank filled, windshield washed, oil checked, air checked on the tires, every time. Imagine THAT!
Holidays were days off school you loved. Christmas was Christmas, Thanksgiving was Thankgiving, Halloween was Halloween, Easter was Easter. You said the Pledge of Allegiance each morning at school. The flag was raised at school. There were no other flags flown ABOVE the American flag. There were neighborhood beat cops who knew everyone in the area. People knew the local Fire Chief & Sheriff. The mayor was NOT what we see these days, with far too much overstepping & ridiculous ideological power. Lawns were mowed, yards were kept, people were proud of what they earned & naturally kept these things up.
Of course, I paint a pretty picture here. It wasn't perfect. But compared to a broken down society of no boundaries or standards due to political correctness & "liberalism " & an attitude of "someone else is always at fault & must pay!" responsible behavior pretty much has been ERASED from expectations. What a shame.

These songs bring me calm as if we were living in those good old days. It feels like I have been deported from my place and now I can only hear this sound from afar, listening to it with a certain nostalgia.
