Maybe this is a play on how people who don’t speak English (or in this case the inkling language) buy shirts with english on them not knowing what they mean (with swear words being common on them) and then just wearing it in public like nothings wrong.
yeah this just feels like the splatoon equivalent of a tourist wearing a shirt that says "i dont need life im high on drugs"
i visited a lot urban fashion shops in seoul, a good handful of shirts that say things like "oh shit" and "fuck off" :)

Apparently, the artbook says the shirt is called the “you suck” shirt. I guess that means the same thing??
This is just a tad bit funnier imo
that "you suck" shirt is how i wound up discovering this! that "you suck" shirt in the artbook is written in a different script than the "fck you" shirt, and is a script ive been wanting to decipher (i figured out like 80% of it).
a few months back while i was working on deciphering the script on the "you suck" shirt, Diam had uploaded some of jelfonzo's shirt textures/some other textures with text on it for me to look at. none of those textures had the script i was looking for, didnt think much of it. then today i was like "hey i should get back to deciphering that script again" and when i scrolled up to find what work i'd done, i took another look at the jelfonzo shirt textures and. then i realized what it said.

How well versed are Jellyfish in Inkling? Maybe he had a few lessons from Pearl.
They usually don't speak inkling, and in Jellonzo and Jellfonzo is particularly noticable because they learned inkling from old books (imagine learning english from reading Shakespeare)
So it's possible that they don't have any idea of what they're wearing

Splatoon is to Nintendo what Ren and Stimpy was to Nickelodeon, in that it delights in getting as much past the censors as possible while still technically maintaining it's "all ages" rating, and remains one of the company's flagship mascot franchises in spite of gthis.

I mean it’s known that the Jellyfish people aren’t natural speakers of the Inkling language (jellfonzo being unique and most likely self taught, hence his outdated more “Old English” type of Inkling) so it would make sense for him to have bought this shirt without having any idea what is actually says

It’s probably in reference to the way people wear shirts with random English text, often with crazy profanity, not knowing what it means. This would make sense for the character in question
im assuming this was some crazy mistake that wasn't caught somehow but it's funny to imagine that a nintendo employee had enough and did this

Well I mean urban stuff has always had pretty foul language in it. specifically some of the street Urban stuff, hell maybe even this shirt that he wears is a band logo. And bands sometimes can be very explicit with their language, of course I'm sure most of you already know that.

It actually says "DORTTA RPO" in the font StopD, with one of the letters flipped! Was messing around in MS Paint a couple years ago when I noticed.
