    I'm so glad you guys are giving Lady Olenna the screentime she deserves. Dame Diana Rigg, rest her soul, dominated that role and just about every scene she was in. One of the few actors in the show who could match Charles Dance as Tywin in terms of sheer presence.

    The scene with Sansa crying is very powerful to me because of what it doesn't say:
    She is looking off into the distance at the ship Littlefinger promised to take her away on (note the Mockingbird on the sail). She realizes then that she's thrown away what was her last chance at freedom because she'd believed her fortunes were finally going to change; she took a final shot at happiness and she ended up losing both it (represented by Highgarden) and security (the Starks and Winterfell). She thought being able to marry Loras meant she'd get away from the Lannisters and finally be able to find some measure of peace for herself. Its doubly heartbreaking because we know its probably a difficult choice for her, but she ends up choosing Loras/Highgarden over possibly going to her family, and I feel like its partly because she is afraid to face the other Starks after the way the Lannisters manipulated her, and partly because _despite everything,_ the part of her that has always been hopeful, trusting, and romantic is still alive until this moment.
    We're watching as that part of her - the part that was full of dreams and hopes for the future - finally dies.

    • @govinddas7876
      @govinddas7876 Месяц назад +14

      Yeah thats something thats much deeper into the books too. Sansa has always been the girl dreaming of fairytales and princes on horsebacks. She was raised to be a Lady. A lot of it was burned after Ned's execution and her stay at King's Landing. But that scene to me was the last bit of her fairytales fading away.

    The reason we don’t see Dany much is due to cost. If they showed her and her dragons every episode, they would have to CGI new dragons that were slightly bigger each episode. This way, when we see them next, the dragons have grown substantially instead of increasing incrementally in size. It makes their growth more impressive and cuts down on cost

    I don't have the credit for this info, this was a comment in a previous episode, but the reason Sansa didn't leave with the Hound makes more sense in the books, because the hound seems to have a weird interest in her. The actor of the Hound was not comfortable with filming some of the scenes since the actress for Sansa was quite young, so some moments that justified why she wouldn't leave alone with the Hound weren't included.

    • @Trepanation21
      @Trepanation21 Месяц назад +13

      Unnecessary. There's a million understandable reasons why Sansa wouldn't want to go anywhere with the Hound. She has no real reason to believe him to be a reasonable alternative to her current arrangement (bearing in mind her naivety). AT THE VERY LEAST, she currently has food, water, clothing, a bedroom, a servant, and "security". She's in a pit of vipers, but it's still arguably the safest place available to her. Traveling with the Hound ain't a Sansa kinda life anyway, long before she has to worry about anything in the books.

    That’s not fair to say George RR Martin hasn’t thought of a good ending. His writing is so amazing because he’s not the type of writer who plans stuff ahead. He plans some stuff ahead, but he’s the type of writer who is a gardener, he will write a a quarter of a book, have a better idea and then scrap that quarter and start from scratch. His stories are constantly evolving as he goes, which causes him to rewrite and rewrite and rewrite. He’s so hard on himself because he has high expectations of himself and he doesn’t want to write generic stuff. If you guys heard his original idea for the game of thrones books, it was much more basic and it evolved like crazy and he expanded it and expanded it and expanded it. There’s still two more books that are supposed to come out and George has been stuck on this 6th book for like 12 years it’s insane. There’s so much going on in the books plus the showrunners butchered the end, so George is trying extra hard to make sure the high quality unpredictable nature is there and I’m sure he’s had a bit of writers block as well. He’s recently hinted that the book could come out next year. My big worry is that we are going to have to wait another 12 years for the last book. He’s 75 now, and 12 years is so far down the road we are all going to be so much older too. 😮

    It's important to realize that Sansa and Arya are different people with different perspectives and abilities. It's true that Arya is a warrior, but she never would have survived what Sansa is enduring in Kings Landing because she is really stubborn and impatient. even though Sansa isn't doing good in the game, Arya would've just gotten eaten alive and could NEVER have endured having to marry Jofferey; as Sansa could never have stayed alive in her situation.

      Westeros is a patriarchal society that thrives on war and uses codes of chivalry to glory this fact through its songs and stories.
      Arya's arc showcases the damage done to boys in such society. "The Hound" symbolises broken men made dead inside through violence and trauma. Arya walks this path, her faith becoming one of bloodlust, praying for justice, that is to say, revenge. The cycle of hate found in war.
      Sansa's arc showcases the damage done to women in such a society. "The Fool" (Jonquil's) symbolises how women are valued for their maidenhood, and are used as political pawns at the mercy of men with little agency. They're seen as lesser, and indeed, Sansa is powerlessly manipulated, abused and sold as if she were cattle. Her name and title being all anyone cares about her.
      The only time we see "The Bear" (the patriarchal system) outmaneuvered is when Brienne (a woman in the role of a man) who in Feast slays both a fool and hound, and Jaime (a man in the role of a woman) work together after walking in the shoes of the other gender. The bear never gets the maiden fair when empathetic men and women work together.
      George's symbology is top tier.

    The story in the books diverges heavily from the show, there are way more factions, more mystical elements, dozens of relevant characters that don’t appear in the show. This is one of the reasons the show starts to get worse after season 4, there are whole poltlines that are completely missing which impacted the show negatively and simplified many of the conflicts

      I wish people understood this more. It's endless the amount of show fans who think any viewers who were dissatisfied were so because "things didn't turn out how we wanted". It's more complex than that, it's about how things deviated to a stark and relevant degree.
      GRRM himself even left the show because they left out important key characters.

    I find little finger such an underrated character. Your meant to dislike him, which i do but at the same time have a weird sense of respect. Because everybody else at the top is doing the same diabolical moves, but little finger comes from nothing, is a nobody and yet he holds and yields great power, and is clever and shrewd enough not to let his ego destroy the work he has done and the power moves he has made. He knows lurking in the shadows without taking claim for some of the most powerful moves taken in the kingdom. And ego is one of the mst difficult things to maneuver successfully in the world of game of thrones. That in itself is so impressive.
    He is definitely one of the most, if not THE MOST impressive character.

    The way they introduce Ramsay Snow in the show is so dumb! We know from the get-go what happened: Roose Bolton sent his bastard son with an army to retake Winterfell. Robb and Roose discuss it at length, I think Robb discusses it with his mom, and we even see Winterfell being besieged by them from Theon‘s perspective. Then Theon is betrayed by his own men and the castle handed over to Ramsay‘s troops. But then they make this big mystery out of where Theon is and who imprisoned him and who Ramsay really is, which house he belongs to. WHY? In the end we find out it is the guy we knew it to be from the beginning. The reveal accomplishes nothing. Even if you weren‘t paying attention and forgot that Roose sent his bastard, what does the reveal do for you? You find out that it was a member of House Bolton instead of Karstark or some other house that has Theon. So what???

      Don‘t get me wrong, they do a good job of establishing Ramsay‘s character: sick and sadistic beyond limits, yet cunning and intelligent. But why do they wrap it in this pointless mystery that isn‘t a mystery?

    Dont you dare blame the show on George. He's had an endgame in mind for over 20 years. The issue is that the story grew so broad along the way that he's struggled to weave all the threads back together in a pratical manner. He's already a legend in his own time.

    This isn't a spoiler and there are no spoilers in the results, but look up "Iron throne in the book images" and look at images. The throne they display in the tv show is pathetic compared to how it is described in the books.

    Man, Sansa is like 13 and her only options have been Joffrey, an abuser, LittleFinger, an abuser, or the Hound who to Sansa's knowledge, has been Joffrey's creepy muscle who killed another kid from Winterfell.
    She's not safe. She's trying to do her best. She's a kid. Of course she's not a bad ass warrior yet.

    Hey Carter this is kind of a random request and not a deal breaker but if you could reverse the playlist order and somehow get all your old videos on here I would have binged you guys all day since I have the flu or something randomly awful. But watching GoT as some kind of time travel adventure where everyone keeps coming back to life instead of getting murdered is weird.

    I will stand by Robb getting on my last nerve this season.
    Edmure is the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Harrenhall is in the Riverlands. Robb giving Harrenhall away just like that without discussing it with his uncle, the Lord Paramount, is idiotic and poor leadership. Then he just dismisses it by saying "we're fighting for the North." So what? The North isn't the only kingdom. He's basically saying the North is the only thing important. Sod the Riverlands.
    He should be grateful his uncle and the Riverlords are supporting him. His aunt in the Vale isn't.

    Pretty sure GRRM has an ending but doesnt know how to get there because so many diverging plot lines need to come together (way more than in the show, like dozens of side characters with small but important roles to play). Thats why the books are taking so long.
    I honestly feel bad for him, the final seasons of the show were handled so badly its disrespectful. He had no control over the shows direction, by that point was barely involved.
    D&D are not bad writers, they did an amazing job adapting the books, and had some fire original scenes. But by season 5, there is an obvious lack of care. They stopped setting up plot lines from the books to carry into the later seasons, and failed to deliver on established character arcs.

    Hey guys if you haven't been made aware by now he's had other writers to help him write the other books and stories like 'Fire and Blood' other GOT universe stories and he's definitely a reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally slow writer in which the fact that I think the ending that we get on screen might be the only ending we actually get postmortem.... god forbid!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏 but bruh GRRM has been writing the next novels for over 10 years now... and he's working on HBO shows lets just be honest.

    This show and most of the stuff GRRM has ever written (and I've read it all) is extremely liberal and the entire point of this story is about him hating war. So like, everyone dies boys. The author has an active interest in making the point to make about the senseless futility of war. And lost love, he definitely loved a girl that either left him or never noticed him. Because that lost love shit comes up alot in the story.
