Three Houses was good game, but it had way too much time spent in the Monastery. You could easily be spending 50% if not more of your gameplay time in a hub, and I'm sorry but for most Fire Emblem fans that's way to much of a distraction from what is meant to be the core gameplay i.e. the Tactical battles. Now I found the Monastery fine on a first playthrough but a total chore on any playthrough after and on the higher difficulties its pretty much mandatory. I think Engage definitely strikes a far better balance with time spent in the hub and I haven't played on Maddening yet but I never felt like I had to do chores in the hub to complete on hard. Honestly apart from the story, characters (Though for a MC, Alear is more likeable than Byleth)and maybe Music (but I really like both), Engage did it better.

Garreg Mach is what made it for us. The Somniel feels a little tacked on. I usually find myself just skipping out on big chunks of it because i find it dull. Like we said in the video though - if you dont like the between sections then Engage is most definitely your game

You have to understand just how much hatred Intelligent Systems got for Three Houses when it released from long time FE fans. In fact if you do a youtube search for videos around the time of release you will find a multitude of creators/fans producing content dedicated to explaining why Three Houses is the worst game in the entire series. I am a longtime FE fan and I will admit that the Persona-fication of Fire Emblem originally upset me as well but after having spent hundreds of hours with Three Houses my opinion about that game has totally changed. I'm convinced Intelligent Systems tried their absolute best to please the longtime fans with Engage but as a result they may also alienate all the new fans that only know Three Houses.

    • @SumKindofGaming

Yeh we didnt realise it got so much hate upon release. I guess we werent as involved in the creator space then. Wasnt Awakening where the social sim stuff really kicked off?
You pretty much nailed it with that last sentence. Theres too much legacy stuff for new or casual fans

    • @thund3rstruck
      @thund3rstruck Год назад +7

@@SumKindofGaming Its funny that you mention Awakening because that game is nearly identical to Engage, minus the emblem rings of course. But yes, Awakening is the game that really went all in on the idea/mechanics of unit bonding via support conversations, relationships, and even the ability to marry units together and have children (who would battle alongside you). These features though are entirely optional and skippable, buried under menus and sub-menus --just like in Engage.
In Three Houses the social aspect to the game is essential, and integral to the experience. The true magic in that game comes from the bond you form with your class as you mentor and cultivate the students over time.
For example, the final time you participate in the 'Battle of the Eagle and Lion' there is a deep feeling of connection with your class as you've been on this legitimate emotional journey with these students over the course of the entire game. Its a real, legitimate bittersweet moment.
I don't think I've had that kind of emotional connection to a group of characters in a Fire Emblem game before.
I love Engage, since its effectively a prettier version of FE: Awakening and FE: Fates but it definitely lacks the magic of Three Houses.

    • @SumKindofGaming
      @SumKindofGaming  Год назад +1

Ahhh thats interesting! We've never played Awakening, just heard good things.
And couldnt agree more with this sentiment. When art makes you feel something (good or bad) its always a good positive.

That just isn‘t true, Three Houses was seen positively, starting with the reveal of the time skip. Before Three Houses, there was a rift in the community between those who started post awakening and older fans, Three Houses destroyed that rift. (If only to replace it with Fodlan Politics). If Three Houses wasn‘t there, Engage (with its similarities to awakening and fates) would likely just be seen as a continuation of their course, and torn to shreds by older fans.

    • @korinoriz
      @korinoriz Год назад +1

@@tirex3673 Cop out answer but it's a mix and complicated as all things are. As we learned more about Three Houses fans of more "traditional" fe became more and more skeptical with of course some basically hating just cause it's new. To make a VERY long story short, general consensus is Three Houses is a good game. However, the series now "suffers from success" with many Three Houses only fans or "older fans" it left a huge impression on, being extemely confused by Engage's gameplay and tone. Both are not new to the series.

You gave me an interesting point of view, actually. Three Houses is great and all, but I'm more of a sucker for classic, adventure journeys rather than sims, so I avoided it. Engage I believe is catered towards veterans much like Echoes Shadows of Valentia did, with its lower development time. Since Japan has a lot more older people, ISI wants to cater to longtime fans at some point; they're more important. I agree Three Houses is a great all-in-one package though; it keeps you hooked for over 100 hours, and thus I recommend it for newcomers to FE.

even like younger fans like fire emblem didnt really pop off until fire emblem awakening where this game started become mainstream, like if you look at the sales of fire emblem it didn't go too well until fire emblem awakening and from that point on it only went up from there especially fire emblem three houses. Like looking at sales number awakening sold 1.9 million worldwide, Fates sold just over 3 million worldwide and three houses 3.8 million worldwide (these numbers are pulled from wikipedia). So to say it caters for older or veteran fans, i feel like thats an understatement considering like if you come from awakening it feels the same like how you traverse the overworld and skirmishes and even like casual mode being a thing

Three Houses was my first Fire Emblem too. I liked it soooo much that I ended up playing most of the games in the series.
I was so captivated by the story, the characters, the mechanics, etc., that I ended up playing it like 8 times. I just love it.
The monastery gets quite boring at some point (especially when you replay it without NG+ and have to do it all over again), but it doesn't ruin the experience for me.
I hope the next Fire Emblem has a deep and complex story like Three Houses. You can feel the pain, the anger, the hope, the sadness. It's heartbreaking at times. It's amazing. Maybe my all-time favorite game.

Fire Emblem Engage was supposed to be an anniversary game (30th) celebration but it got delayed. that's why it had protagonists from previous games and felt more traditional while introducing new cool mechanics at the same time. The next fire emblem game that is not a remake might have multiple routes and something similar to the 3H monastery again (maybe a city where you can build hospitals lol ) . I just hope they'll find a way to make something cool for 3H fans without ruining the experience for the og fans

Engage is also missing the engaging side quests that Three Houses has. All of the characters in Three Houses had interesting backstories. A lot of the backstories revealed more about the characters, showed their development, and players even got to understand why they believed what they believed and behaved the way they behaved. Side quests were made to be interesting. In Engage, side quests are just a grind. They feel tedious.

Agreed. The emblem paralogues are okay, but other than some nostalgia baiting if you've played the old game, and having a powerful boss with emblem mechanics, they don't have unique mechanics, they teach you nothing about the characters, they teach you nothing about the world, and although non-fatal training battles are in the game, your emblems will inexplicably kill your units in these paralogues.

So much nostalgia in this game if you've played Fates and Awakening, this has past characters from those games. Personally I prefer Engage over Three Houses because I'm not the biggest fan of the social sim stuff. I just want do combat and get hooked and enjoy the main story and the soundtrack and Engage is that. It sounds as though you came into this Strategy RPG expecting a social sim and were disappointed when it focused on the combat. The wording was also a bit odd, coming off along the lines of "Pick up Three Houses instead of Engage for the Fire Emblem Experience" which is hard to take seriously when you started off saying Three Houses was your only experience with the series prior to Engage, which made me question what you thought the Fire Emblem Experience actually was.

Hmm, Fire Emblem: Hogwarts Legacy edition vs Fire Emblem: Marri-... I mean, Engage... *cough*
I don't know... I wasn't big on the whole school theme Three Houses had going for it... It felt kinda out-of-place, and maybe even wack in terms of the overall setting the FE universe was based around the original theme being medevial fantasy, with kingdoms waging wars with each other, and the eventual fight leading up to defeating the Big Bad being god, etc. Engage was... colorful... but the overall FEEL of the game just felt too modern for some reason, and that's to say the least with Three Houses... I'm guessing Three Houses tried a different approach in terms of a diverse interactive gameplay perspective. But it just didn't felt true to what made FE unique in the first place.
Honestly, if I HAD to choose between the two, I would go with Engage. The only thing about Engage that bothered me was how underwhelmingly short and brief the character support conversations all were... Something I actually missed, and rather enjoyed reading in both Awakening and If/Fates, even tho I didn't like any of the characters in those two FE games. But there's just something gratifying in letting my imagination run wild in discovering the many possible relationships between the characters in those two games, as well as learning MORE about the characters OUTSIDE of fighting on the battlefield. Something that gave the characters actual DEPTH whereas Engage did not.

3 houses has the best new game + experience supposedly, which is a huuuge deal for me as I'm already on my 3rd playthru of the gba title. It really depends what you’re looking for. If you only care about the gameplay then engage all the way. Story is pretty generic and the characters don’t really feel that important and are kinda of one note and bland. The animation are beautiful but the characters feel off since they feel like v tubers in a play not to mention despite it supposedly being a war. Note engage supports are not very deep so if people like to ship(since some fans do enjoy the shipping they might want to look somewhere else)
3H doesn’t really follow a traditional fire emblem game however at the same time I feel people will like this one due to the world building, characters depts depending on what you pick, decent gameplay.
It really will come down to preference. For me I’ll recommend more 3H then engage since I feel people will like it more due to it having a nice balance between story character gameplay and world build aesthetic and frankly I feel this game might be a good way to introduce the franchise since it will help keep their interests and tons of replay-ability with new houses etc. Engage might be a chore to some if they are looking for a good story characters. I had a friend who tried engage and was not a fan of the series but he got bored because he wasn’t invested in anything despite the fun gameplay.

To cheer you guys up a bit, Fire Emblem is always different. The combat stays similar, but each game is otherwise quite different. But the social sim stuff was also in some of the past games, so there will be another one like that in the future. Maybe the next one for Switch 2 will be like that again. I've played most Fire Emblem games, so for me Engage is like this super nostalgia trip for those who remember the past games. But if you haven't played the past games, a lot of that will be missed on you. But in the end for me personally what I love is the addictive combat, music and art style. And for me Engage has the most addictive combat (to me) in the entire series and the soundtrack is just beautiful, I also feel the art style is amongst the best. The character designs are my favorite and equal to Awakening (one of the most legendary entries in the series). But that's me. Everyone probably loves Fire Emblem for slightly different reasons. Personally like you guys said, I tend to prefer Engage over Three Houses because I'm not such a fan of the social sim stuff. And Engage has a more addictive combat system, to me. I prefer three houses it feels more like a RPG in my opinion when it comes to choosing your own path throughout the story huge replay value. Also the better characters, music and atmosphere three houses have over engage. Engage is not a bad game it combat is better but in my opinion almost everything else was a downgrade. Aside from visuals (Which to me don't matter) as a fan of TTRPGs and interactive novels, every other aspect suffers greatly compared to 3H.

@@SumKindofGaming The honest truth is pretty ugly.
      The Short Version:
Nintendo put a New developer as the lead for the game who had no experience. A basic "Yes Man" who likes action games and not turn based tactics games, and was heavily influenced by Nintendo wanting to aim for a New Younger Audience which meant dumbing down the game, and making it flashier.
      The Long Version:
If you read the "Ask the Developers" interviews that were released. The guy in charge (Tsutomu Tei), had never been a director of a game at IS before, and seemingly never discusses having any previous experience working on a FE game. So while I can't say what his previous role was, if any, it doesn't seem to be significant enough to mention in his bio.
I'd link the Nintendo article, but RUclips is pretty finicky with links these days. (Typing Ask the Developer Vol. 8, Fire Emblem Engage Part 1, 2, and 3 should get you too it)
If anything, just someone picked by Nintendo to lead the development.
Listening to the other two employees of Nintendo that were in the interview. Tei and the two mention wanting to "appeal to a broader audience" and saying that RPG mechanics such as the Awakening / Fates marriage system took too long to play out in the game. According to them it "wan't fun" so they developed the Emblem Ring idea instead. With the goal of intruding the "fun elements" early on.
I'll quote the Nintendo stooge "Higuchi: We wanted to introduce this fun element for players as early as possible. I felt that the fun of tactical RPG games wasn't as intuitive or immediate as that of action games."
So basically you had Nintendo heavily influencing the game with employees who were more interested and familiar with Action games than tactics RPGs.
Then from the games IS developer,
"Tei: People often say that turn-based tactical RPGs seem difficult or too complicated... In fact, I’m not very good at them myself."
Take of that what you will, I take it as even the new IS dev wasn't interested in making a Tactics game. Just taking orders and advice from his Nintendo handlers.
"Tei: We had several candidates. We were looking for an artist whose design style would appeal to a broad audience - including younger players - as well as the ability to portray a variety of characters. Among the candidates, Mika Pikazo-san's drawings were colorful, vivid, and really popped! They were a perfect fit for the flashy direction we wanted for this title."
So from that we can see the "broader audience" meant appeal to children. In spite of marketing toward long time fans, which makes no sense since new players and young players would not get any of the references. So basically they tried to do both and focused on the younger new audience by lying to the older one.
As it would seem, the games development and design was all over the place. Trying to create a game for a new younger audience, while throwing a bone to the old players to make it seem like they were not being abandoned when they were.
As for another section about their Artist choice that influenced the game in a bad way.
"Tei: Well, I thought it'd be better to be upfront about the request. That said, there was one concern she had. Since she usually draws young characters, she was concerned about her confidence level in some of the character design."
So to answer why all the characters were loli or V-tuber style. It's because that's the only style the artist knew, and he went with it. Also, it also turns put it was her idea to make toothpaste-chans hair color red and blue. As before Tei just went with whatever he was told, advised, or requested.
From everything I have read, Tei should never be in charge of any product. Unless he was specifically chosen because he just follows orders and has no skill as a leader or director.
"Tei: As I mentioned at the beginning, I'm not very good at strategy games myself, so during development, I hoped to create a game that even those like me would want to try out or find interesting."

Three Houses was also my first game in the series, and while I liked the way that the story and the classroom mechanics really made me grow to understand and love the characters... in terms of gameplay the monastery stuff and the "dating sim" requirements for recruiting were by far my least favorite part of the gameplay. I was really more there for the srpg gameplay.
Even in something like Persona, the time-restricted dating sim aspect is also my least favorite. If it were something you could take your time with and grind out over a long period, I'd have no issues, but the way Three Houses and Persona puts a time limit and forces you to date sim extensively just kills my enthusiasm for the game as a whole as I'm basically forced to interact hravily with this gameplay aspect I find boring in order to improve the srpg aspect I love.
I'm not upset that Engage removed the date sim side of things, and I much prefer this more traditional rpg recruitment system, however I do hope that the story adequately gets you to love the characters like the Monastery got you to love the students of your house.

I have 200+ hours on 3H and 50+ hours on Engage...
When I first played three houses I was a bit disappointed with the story because a random young guy getting a professor/teacher spot absolutely randomly, coaching guys who are as old as him was pretty meh... But when the story continued I ended defeating the game 4 times with all endings. For me this game is by FAR the best game I played on switch even to this day.
The game is about problems which can be applied to the real world we are living in and i honestly think that NOBODY is in the right. Not Rhea, not Dmitri neither Edelgard or Claude.
I personally stick with Edelgards PoV cause she wants to destroy the Crests, delete the differences between nobles and commoners and most importantly get rid of the gods and guys like Rhea who are living for millenia and posses godlike powers. Edelgards message was EQUALITY and thats why I chose her as my first gameplay.
Best story and character writing is in Blue Lions campaign because of Dmitri character evolution and Golden Deer is the most chillout and pacifistic way with best endgame missions :).
Rhea side of the story was the weakest in my PoV.
    Okay now, lets discuss Engage...
I had big expectations from this game considering 3H was one of the best games i ever played in my life. The first thing i realized was that the game was much more colorful than 3H and that MC got his voice actor... The game was okayish until the part where MC mother came to stage. Bouncy tits and many japanese anime signs. Much more than in 3H. I didnt know yet if I like it or not tbh :D. One thing im certain i didnt like was the scene with mother of MC dying... It felt so unnatural to me. I dont know why. Another thing i didnt like in Engage were the weird looks of some male characters. Dont get me wrong, I am a tolerant person but it felt to me like half of the male characters were gay or dressed like a girl. I understand when there is like 1-2 characters who are like this just to spread the message of tolerance in the games but in my PoV this was just too much... In general the story was poor compared to 3H, the character writing was much worse compared to 3H and also the ingame features compared to 3H was a little bit worse. One thing which I was certain from the start was that 3H had far better soundtrack than Engage and it wasnt even close.
But I must say that Engage had slightly better battlesystem than 3H, i loved that they brought back the characters from previous FE and also the graphic was rly rly nice. I enjoyed playing Engage at the end :).
In final, i would give FE:Engage a solid 8/10 and FE:Three Houses is a 10/10 no brainer for me :)

Made you care about the characters, I had an end of the story that intrigued me and got me to play through the entire game four times plus the DLC. The parts of three houses that I didn’t care for were things like tea time, fishing gardening going in the sauna, but all of these things had a purpose, I loved being able to choose the direction I wanted to take my characters new game plus was absolutely amazing being able to keep your professor level and basically be able to get whatever students you wanted. My personal opinion:
    Engage wins at:
    Graphics
    Map design
Combat mechanics (even if the Emblems are just a refinement of the Battalions in 3H)
Main character (or rather, Engage loses less)
    Exploring the battlefield
    3H wins at:
    Artstlyle
    Story
    World building
    Party members
    Music
Character building (If Engage let you refund inherited skills so you can experiment a bit, I'd flip this one)
Downtime (yes, the monastery could get tedious, but I don't feel the solution is to double down on tedious tasks and just making most of them safe to ignore. With a little bit expanding of the post battle exploration face, they could've just scrapped Somniel altogether)
In short, the tactical gameplay in Engage is better, but I find it much harder to care about anything that happens. That seems to be almost by design, what with the paralogues of your party members, the people actually living in this game world, replaced by paralogues for the Emblems, with nostalgia values for the old fans perhaps, but with zero relevance to this story or world. They really wanted to celebrate their old titles, even though they already did that with Fire Emblem Heroes, Fire Emblem Warriors, and rereleasing the first game. I'd personally prefer it if IS released more remakes of their old stuff, rather than making the new games about the old games.

While I liked the story and characters more in Three Houses, I like the battles more in Engage. I honestly don't really care a lot about the hub world stuff much. I feel like I spent too much time in both the Somniel and the academy and I just wanted to do more battles, but not the skirmishes or auxiliary battles because those were not as exciting. I've barely done any Skirmishes in Engage and I'm doing alright on hard mode, but I felt like I had to do the auxiliary battles to keep up with leveling in Three Houses and I got really bored of them, so it's hard to replay that game. Also, in Three Houses I felt like it took way too long in between main story battles, which was my favorite part of the game. Engage gives me more story battles that are more unique, so it doesn't get very boring. I wish it were easier to build support between characters in Engage though, which is another thing I love. I felt like I got a ton of support conversations in Three Houses, but only a few per battle in Engage. It's fairly easy to get support for the main character after you unlock the shop for gifts, but getting support between other characters is more tricky. I also think there are way too many characters in Engage. I struggle to pick which characters I want and some characters just become weak and it's hard to continue with starting characters in the later game (except people like Louis, who is a tank). In Three Houses, each character could go to the end of the game pretty well.
I still haven't finished Engage (I'm about to start chapter 16), but I'm enjoying it for the most part, especially the battles. The story is decent, but not as good as Three Houses. I like both games in different ways, but they're both good and enjoyable experiences. I've played parts of previous Fire Emblem games, but now I want to try some of the older games. I already own Awakening, so I might check that one out next.

I find a lot of this discussion luke warm. The notion that engage is lesser for having a narrow focus is an undercooked perspective.
The game is an anniversary game through and through, the story is all about the legacy of a franchise that was dead and revived looking to cement its legacy in a world of divergent expectations; as is clear by people introduced through three houses.
The plot of this game is a legacy plot in broad strokes, but in detail it seeks the approval of predecessors whilst creating new space for new fans and old alike.
Three houses in contrast utilises the persona trappings to immerse you in the world of the characters, despite the tedium of grinding through character customisation, the games goal is to put you in the role of a teacher which it broadly achieves.
The consequence of these divergent focus and expectations is that fundamentally each experience is compelling for different reasons.
Three houses is compelling for its world building and interconnected visual novel narrative, but bloated down by tedious and grindy gameplay. Engage is compelling for its malleable puzzle-box gameplay, and commitment to honoring legacy paired up with innovation and optimism.
Yet to compare these experiences and contrast which is a better entry point; neither are.
Both games diverge from core features of fire emblem significantly such that they represent its potential not it's past, thus they are best experienced as latter experiences rather than initial ones.
That is to say Path of Radiance is the best entry point don't @me

Expecting a title to live up to its predecessor isn't an 'undercooked' idea? A more focused direction is just a nicer way of saying theres less content or less to do.

As of the most recent sales projections. The game just before 3 houses (Fates) sold approximately 3 million with 3 h selling approximately 3.8. The reason I bring this up is that while 3h was a big jump in popularity, a lot of newer fans massively over blow the level to which the series exploded. A lot will act like the series was nothing before 3h and will then act as though games like engage are a “mistake”. And I’m not accusing this channel of doing this. But it’s definitely a sentiment that isn’t uncommon. Fates was the previous best seller and similar to engage had a story that wasn’t too great with massive gameplay improvements. 3h had the benefit of being the first to launch on the switch at the height of the switch’s success. 3h success is more to do with the system and not as much about itself. Xenoblade franchise had a similar result. Launched on switch and the sheer amount of units forced it in to relevance.

@@SumKindofGaming Of that im aware. But i brought up fates because engage is very similar in nature to Fates Conquest. And the discourse surrounding the game is pretty much the same. Where people didn't find the characters or story as compelling as the previous game but found the maps and mechanics much better. Dividing the community on what was more important and what made the game enjoyable. The issue here is that even if we were to assume 100% of the extra sales of 3h were all new people. That still leaves them at a comical minority in the community. So I just don't like how so many new people seem to think they know how the franchise should be in the future and act like their having purchased the game was some sort of gift. There is verbatim comments even on this video effectively alluding to the idea that the 3h formula is simply better and the devs are fools for not catering to the new audience that clearly saved this dying game. Completely ignoring the success of the literal previous entry.

I played 3 Houses 3 times mostly for the routes and charcters but I have no intention to do "Runs" meanwhile Engage is better in every possible way that is just not funny, the issue is that 3 houses gave people the wrong impression about FE. 3 Houses is an anomally, not the norm.
Engage has better performance, more variety, better customization. Sure the characters aren't that great but who cares when the combat is this tight, challenging and diverse.
Sure early game units fell off hard but you can still make them work unless you are doing maddening runs.
The story is just ...pretty bad to be honest with some good moments here and there.
Is just funny how 3 houses get so much praise when the game looks ugly and everything is samey and the combat is broken.
In favor of 3 houses I will say this, 3 Houses is fun, is good, the story is engaging (irony) but it will give you a wrong impression of FE and people might not like previous games, in fact most 3 Houses fan did not play the old ones or plan to.

Randomly failing class changes was frustrating, but you could always guarantee success if you were properly skilled, so it was a risk-reward calculation of you wanted to try early.
I'll grant you that Byleth didn't work. Alear is a fairly boring vanilla protagonist who gets hyped way too much, but at the game acknowledges the disconnect between other characters worshipping him while being a just a milk toast friendly guy/girl. 3H couldn't decide if Byleth was supposed to be the emotionless Ashen Wolf or the instantly popular teacher liked by everyone he meets. I really wish they'd committed to the first option, which could've played into the later revelations about his heart, and only let him open up to others slowly.
I think Fire Emblem MC's have been criticized enough for their blandness for IS to pick up on it by now. I wish they'd make someone who isn't a universally beloved chosen one from chapter one, but someone with a character arc. Give us someone like Persona 5's Joker, who faces rejection by most of his peers at the start. Hell, give is an asshole who only becomes tolerable through the story and support conversations.

I prefer the story, battles, and visual elements in Engage more than Three Houses. I love how light and fantastical/surreal the landscapes and characters are in Engage. Even though the story is a pretty standard RJP/ Fire Emblem good vs evil narrative, I feel like Engage does it quite well and I still found a number of characters to be compelling. I also really liked Alear, I found the protagonist to be really sweet. I've only played Awakening, Fates, Three Houses, (and a bit of Echoes), and out of them, Alear is probably my favourite protagonist.
With that said...when it comes to character customisation, side quests, world building and lore, and twists, Three Houses is in the lead by FAR. There was so much content in Three Houses that no playthrough is the same, and you had so many options to really tailor your team to how you wanted. I loved how much depth was given to just the lore and history of the three houses and the monestary, it felt like reading a fictional history book. I loved your point about social sims... Three Houses definitely appealed to my love of the Sims.
I wonder if because Three Houses was so unique and different from previous entries that the developers wanted the next game to appeal to long time fans while also introducing a lot of older characters to fans new to the series?

For me the main elements that matter are gameplay and story and three houses wins on both those (my argument for "gameplay", by this I mean the tactics portion of the game, being better in three houses is just that Engage building the system around using engages isn't very fun, engages make the game easier and less tactical IMO), so let alone all the other fluff that makes three houses better, where as a lot of Engage's fluff seems to be convoluted systems that aren't ever explained and sometimes waste the players time and/or steal resources from the player to test it out; only to find out those resources would be better utilized in other places. (Long time FE fan here, played since English release on Gameboy Advance, I always liked Three Houses).

@@SumKindofGaming I think a lot of people in the comments and you even touched on it a little bit, is some people are just here for the tactics, which means that most of the first part of Three Houses isn't really for them, even though I believe that part really gives a good foundation to the story and if you finish and do a New Game+ then you can have that stream lined. To those people I just recommend to go play XCOM or Gears of War Tactics, these games are all about tactics and loadouts, Fire Emblem has always been JRPG mixed with tactics so you are going to get that cliché JRPG story and sometimes it's really good and sometimes not so much but Three Houses was really good. Edit: One side I'll put in here is the main hero/avatars in Three Houses and Engage are both poor in story and gameplay, this could be another reason why people didn't like the games. A character being overpowered too quickly isn't fun and them being overpowered is unrelatable from a story perspective, especially with Engage where your character is revered as a deity.

So what you’re telling me is you didn’t make it past the halfway point of the game? Seriously, the weapon triangle doesn’t determine what is and isn’t fire emblem cause more games have had durability than the weapon triangle, yet no one’s claiming Echoes isn’t a fire emblem game. The social aspect of the game is meant to connect you to the characters as their teacher and the support conversations give necessary character depth that just can’t exist otherwise in a story like Three Houses’ while also giving boosts to your units’ hit and crit rates and a few points of might for specific pairs like in past games, plus tea time in three houses is a lot tamer than whatever fates was doing with the face petting. I personally don’t enjoy Shadow Dragon or Fates but I’m not gonna spout some bs about how their “NoT tRuE fIrE eMbLeM gAmEs!!😡😡😡” just cause I don’t enjoy it cause Three Houses is objectively a fire emblem game. It has the tile based movement, the class based movement, weapon types, limited resources that force you to think about how you approach each upcoming battle, and lastly the strategy and planning that fire emblem is known for. If there are parts of the game you don’t like, unless it’s the story maps, you don’t have to interact with it most of the time. Play how you want and like what you do enjoy or dislike what don’t, just don’t try to ruin other’s enjoyment of the game cause there are features you don’t enjoy.
