  • 2023 BMW M3 6 Speed Manual Ownership Review. What I Love & Hate.
    So far I am really enjoying the daily driving of my new 2023 BMW M3 RWD 6 speed. The comfort is excellent, the tech is so easy to use and works really well and the suspension tuning, braking and driveline are outstanding. The only complaints I have really are on the lack of better materials for the dash and doors considering how expensive this car is. I also am having a hard time getting used to the BMW steering which does not snap back to center like most cars. I am welcome to feedback and mod suggestions as I first want to do something with the shifter assembly. I want to do a front carbon fiber spoiler, redesign the front grill, lower it just a little, swap into Michelin Pilot tires and do an exhaust mid-pipe section to start so if anyone has suggestions

    Sorry to hear all your issues but to my experience the last 30 years of motoring, few cars electrics resist flooding. I am on the 5th year in my Giulia Quadrifoglio and it’s been and still is troublefree. Congrats on the BMW.

    My Mini Cooper does the same thing (made a video on an off ramp, wheel stays turned) doesn't RTC=Return To Center. Mini/BMW dealer is great, they tried reprogramming the EPS and let me test drive other models, all had the same trait.

      thanks for sharing BMW adopted Active EPS Steering in 2004 I first had it on my 550M Sport and so many customers hated it and were crashing into curbs because of how reactive it was. They really have improved their EPS and in Sport mode it feels much better and more natural and I think better tires and an alignment might do wonders on the new M3. Thanks for watching and I love sharing technical details and comparisons of other cars in my content and feel this is what makes what I do here quite different. Aesthetically Giulia QV>M3. Build Quality M3>GQV. Steering GQV>M3. Braking M3>GQV. Tech M3>GQV. Emotional Appeal GQV>M3. From a performance aspect I like the fact that the M3 has a manual although they should have hired a Miata engineer to design the shift linkage; don’t like the pumped in engine noise. Your GQV was screwed from the moment the water damaged the electrical system-same thing could happen to the M3 or any modern car however. Italian and British cars suffer from electrical woes but German car plastics, particularly those under the hood, breakdown over time. Shame about the dead steering on this car-inexcusable on a performance car imho.
    BMW allegedly better post purchase service but when my X3 had a problem both the dealer and BMW Assist left me stranded on 684 for hours.

    Change is always good and is already re-inspiring you. Will be interested to see where you go with the M3. As a follower who made some of the modifications you recommended on my 2018 QV - I am interested in your thoughts here. Although it’s not an excuse for poor service, Just wondering if the dealership ghosted you because of all of the modifications you made with after market parts, claiming that it voided the warranty. So far so good on my QV, but I am approaching 4 years and will need to extend warranty if I decide to stay with the QV. I do worry about future potential issues being challenged, though the burden is usually on the dealership to prove the modification caused the failure.

    • @autofanaticcars

      nothing to do with the mods on my car all the problems stemmed from the water leaking in the cowl which went on for 6+ months and this literally destroyed the entire electrical system on my car and the Alfa warranty only was willing to band aid repairs instead of gutting the car and replacing every harness and module and i had to live with the most unreliable and unsafe car in 30+ years of car ownership.

    Love the new car. Your content is amazing and you are very generous with your expertise. I have an 18 Quadrifoglio and it has been amazing. For two years I had a 45 mile drive to work and I never had an issue. I changed the brake pads at your recommendation and it improved the brakes but they are still wonky. Cracked plastic radiator and a fuel pump that needed replacing but never left me stranded. I would have done the same as you but much earlier on if my car gave me so much trouble.
    My comment concerns something you said regarding the superior engineering of M vs ct4 BW. ( I have one on order!). I’m not sure I agree that the M is better engineered where it really matters. The caddy has been thrashed by numerous journalists on track with no failures or hiccups that I’m aware of. Also you have had that beautiful M for less than a month and are already planning on modding the shifter and fixing the steering behavior. These two input points on the ct4 have been praised as being near perfect. I concede the interior and exterior finish quality gap is real and favors the M, but don’t plan on changing anything about the blackwing’s appearance.
    All of this is to say that while your choice of car is truly terrific, the CT 4 deserves a bit more love!
    And my wife is letting me keep the Alfa!

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  Год назад +2

      yeah the CT4V BW is an awesome car I still feel it was the benchmark in this class, the ATSV destroyed the M3 when the F80 M3 was out. The steering and shifter on the CT4V are perfect, only thing that steered me away was the limited aftermarket support for such a niche model and dealers by me are not plentiful and service was mediocre to say the least. I owned many CTSV years back and the only loaner cars I would get would be Enterprise Rentals that were subcompact junk and this turns me off because Mercedes and BMW give you their brand loaner in house. After my 4 years of hell with the Alfa i needed better after sale support. Keep me posted when you get the CT4V love to see it

      I think the biggest issue for me with the caddy is
      1. The back seats might as well not be there as even small children would feel cramped
      2. The styling is 50+ on the exterior. Tried to fall in love but it just looks so old man. The interior is pretty piss poor. Creaks and stuff by the reviews I've seen within 1st year of ownership.
      3. Power train is much better on the M. Ct4 has the better shifter but the engine isn't as good as the s58
      4. At the end of the day it's a GM which I don't love.

    Have had my QV just shy of 5 years. No issues and a super local tech for service. Dealer stopped carrying Alfa so they will only do non warranty or "extended warranty" work. Since my car has been out of warranty for close to a year, it's not a problem. Let's face it, Alfa dealer support has always sucked. Not just in the US but world wide. Its sadly, the price of admission. Even though my ownership experience has been great and I can't stop looking g at the car even after all of these years, I am now in the market for a new car and will likely take delivery of an M3 6mt in the next six months. nobody promoted Alfa Romo as much as I did for 4 years on social media but you need to realize owning any car without manufacture and dealer support is not worth owning these days. there are just so many more options in the market from Audi, BMW, Porsche AMG etc and Alfa has zero modern day technology in any of their cars still for the 2023 model year. there is a reason why their sales are terrible globally these day and thousands of owners walked away from nightmare ownership experiences like myself. I am the only one who lasted for 4 years of agony.

    It’s the “weakest link in the chain” - The manufacturer, the car and the dealer. I’m new in north Texas and was very anxious regarding my first dealer service. I asked to see the service manager, and although I had no appointment, he brought me into his office, and spent 10 minutes discussing my situation. The dealer provided shuttle service. The repair was performed in a timely manner and the dealer warranties their work. This dealer is a twenty mile drive for me - but they have earned my patronage. Just recently my battery suddenly died - the dealer was able to get me in and out, without appointment, on a Saturday afternoon within an hour. This dealer is a major asset for the manufacturer. It’s a shame that the ownership experience of potentially great car can be undermined by a substandard dealer network. Happy BMW Motoring.

      4 months in now on the G80 i honestly enjoy it more because of the manual gearbox and with the REMUS Race exhaust it is way louder than the QV ever was and it resonates the floor, pedals etc like a real race car. The visceral sounds and feel remind me of my Shelby GT350R so it all depends what your looking for to be honest. If you need AWD then an Audi or BMW X Drive might be for you. If you want RWD and a manual 6 speed the only choice is the M3 and Cadillac CT4 V Blackwing. Not many options out there so it depends what you truly want and how will you use and drive the car. the QV is an awesome car but very dated in terms of options and tech so also consider that was well where as BMW allows so much personalization and options still where as Alfa is quite limited.

Roadside and 3 dealers ignored my requests for help that day and funny thing my QV was sold to the servicing dealership and the used car manager had no clue it was my car and when they found out they immediately pulled it from their inventory and website due to liability to sell such a dangerous car. Nobody loved the QV more than I did and my videos prove it along with 4.5 years of the worst dealer and manufacture support ever in my life. Im not sure if caster angle/geometry plays a part with the electric steering. As far as i know its all in how its programmed.

    I actually have a similar complaint with my m2 EPS steering. And I even coded in the CS tuning. Sometimes it feels as it won’t want to come to center. It’s inconsistent for me though. I did an alignment recently with 0 front toe and it’s slightly better, but unfortunately these electronic racks are always going to feel a bit artificial

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  Год назад +1

      yeah it seems to be a BMW thing because Ford, Alfa Romeo, Porsche and many other brands do not have this issue. It feels as if the gears in the rack are meshed too tightly then the programming is also a culprit. still getting use to it

      Just bought a 2017 M2 and was thinking about flashing the CS eps and M diff software. Did you feel much of a difference and would you recommend it?
      At the moment I feel like the steering motor is quite dumb/rough. You can feel how it switches between "oh, now I need to put more resistance" and "now I need to assist a bit more". Does the steering become more natural with the CS flash?
      Thanks!

    I test drove a M3CS before I bought my QV. It was used but only had ~1500 miles on it. Even not in sport mode the ride was very harsh. VERY harsh. I couldn't pull the trigger. That was probably a 2020 (maybe 2019). Has it gotten better?

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  Год назад +1

      i feel the springs and shock tuning on the 2023 M3 is superior to the Alfa Romeo QV. the Alfa is way too soft for my taste which made me do so many attempts to stiffen things up with springs and eventually Kw Coilovers. Even then it still never felt as perfect as the M3 suspension tuning. Porsche and BMW tune the best OEM suspensions on their performance models in my opinion.
