I’ve discovered your channel about a week ago and have since then been binge watching it. I truly love your honesty and down to earthness. Thanks for the great content!
6 years ago, I bought a Jaguar XE the very first month right after it was available here in Spain after the world premiere... I was in love with the car. But after 6 months of ownership, I returned it. I never enjoyed a diesel car as much as I did with the little jag, but it wasn't still a mature product... It was certainly issue plagued. The ZF transmision sometimes decided to slip, every second day after the first 15.000km I had the engine in limp mode due failures in the anti-pollution system... and the navi crashed every time I needed it. Issues apart, it is one of the best handling small sedans for my taste (the giulia, for me, is THE BEST, and the XE is the second on par with the 3 series).
A good friend of mine is a mechanic and I remember him saying never ever buy a new release JLR product as they have a really well earned bad reputation of having seriously bad teething issues. He said they often rush technology on their cars to try and compete/beat the Germans so they have all these issues. For the love of God leave it a year or two after release until going near one and even then they aren't exactly renowned for reliability.
@@texlad04 For sure it does! If you still didn't, I would recommend you to try a Giulia Ti/Veloce or Quadrifoglio. For me, the Giulia it's kind of "4 door baby Ferrari". Maybe they aren't the fastest, the best build or the most reliable... But in terms of handling and feel: I'm Speechless :)
I dated a woman that bought a range rover supercharged years ago and it was a total lemon.Ran fine the first month and I made sure and she had the money to use premium gas.It was in and out of the shop--check engine light would flicker if you took it above 5k rpm and after the first time in the shop after that it ran like it was down 50 HP--I even filled it up with premium gas to make double sure myself. We chose my 2003 Grand Am on a trip--confident in its reliability over a 6 month old 100k priced range rover. It was also awful on fuel economy like single digits sometime.
Bought mine in June 2020 and it is now November 2023. No issue with it not starting so far. The only glitch is the boot very occasionally opens a little instead of all the way when using the key remote. Fantasic fun to drive and sounds better than anything else on the road in my opinion. Lovely interior as well.
You're doing great, sir. I always watch your videos, soon after they're uploaded. No one does reviews like you. Very knowledgeable, yet witty and free-flowing in delivery. I hope things are looking up for you. Best wishes. 👍
Interesting review however I would say other brands can be unreliable. My father has had 5 JLR vehicles over a 17 year period all from brand new. His 2000 Freelander had no problems in 4 years of ownership. He then bought a second Freelander in 2004 and it had a fuel pump failure which he sold after 3 years of ownership. He then bought a 2007 Freelander 2 and it had a water leak from day one which then caused electrical issues which he sold 4 years later. By the way, it’s still on the road somewhere in the UK even after its issues which make the car 14 years of age currently. He then bought a 2011 Freelander 2 which had an EGR failure but this was after its 3 years warranty was up. His final JLR vehicle was a 2015 Range Rover Evoque which had a broken rear passenger door lock which he sold after 2.5 years of ownership. The other family cars we had which weren’t JLR vehicles had problems such as 2007 Toyota Aygo which had a water leak into the tyre well, 2012 VW UP which had an instrument cluster that died, heat shield needed replaced and warped disc brakes and 2016 VW Polo which had a delaminated windscreen replaced under warranty. Apart from the VW Polo he has currently no issues with his 2018 Audi RS3 and 2019 VW GTI TCR.

For some reason, I've been catching more of your videos in my feed. I've got a 2015 F-type R (RWD, no sunroof, just pure fun) and I feel like Jaguar products of these era are really all about emotional connection. It's kind of like having a really great dog. Fun, loyal, great to be around, but every once in a while lets you down a bit when you're not looking. But then you forgive it when it wags it's tail and it's all good!
Yes I recognise the Infotainment problem where it doesn't boot up properly. Solution: Shut down everything, get out, lock it all up and then count to 10. Unlock, restart etc and off you go. It isn't just Jags I've have this as rare occurrence even in German cars. I think it's just purely a common computer problem everywhere and have often had to do something similar with taking a battery out of a laptop or switching off a mains switch to a PC once in a blue moon. Usually a dodgy update is the problem as often upon restarting a pop up might come up regarding a downloaded updates. Nothing to panic about.
I saw this F-Pace recently. I was out for a walk and heard it before I saw it, got a pic too. First SVR F-Pace I've seen in the wild. My old man has a 2015 XES and that's great fun with the 3.0 v6, can only imagine how good the 5.0 v8 is
It is unfortunate that you had an issue. I have owned my 2020 Jaguar F Pace SVR and have not had one problem with it. It actually has been one of the best vehicles that I ever owned. Great review.
Sorry to hear you are having problems, I'm sure with your outlook and attitude things will turn out for the better soon enough👍. It's very good of you to say that, many a time I have become disheartened with cars when it feels like everyone else is having amazing time and I'm the one guy stuck on the roadside after the 3rd brake down that week. good to know it happens to the best of us

Best wishes James. 🙏 I’ve owned twoJaguars. I love the idea but I’ve learned my lesson. Never, Ever again. My last was an early Portfolio XF that had nearly £10K’s worth of fault repairs when the full Jag history car blew up, two months out of warranty. Jaguar wanted £10K for a new engine and more for the turbos. I didn’t even price the turbos, I just scrapped the car. I’m pretty confident that I will never own a worse car. Edit: When it finally died, and because Jag wouldn’t help at all (I wanted to sue but was so devastated that I couldn’t think straight), I bought an old Ford Fiesta for £100 to keep me moving. I drove it for about 2 months, it drove fine, sold it to a friend in a similar position and it served him well for a couple of years before he sold it on. There’s a moral there. I think it’s Never buy a JLR (I’ve owned LR Discovery’s as well). Lease them if you must but never, ever buy one. It pains me to write this but I think they are a national embarrassment.
You're spot-on about the F-Pace SVR James. A colleague of mine bought one and had endless problems (largely electronics-related) with it (not helped by the Jaguar dealer badly scratching a very expensive wheel and damaging the bodywork during 2 of the many visits back to the dealer). In the end the car was taken back by the dealer and a full refund given.
Fantastic, authentic work as always. Sorry to hear it has been a tough week, hope you’re okay. Having watched a million M3/M4 videos this week, still excited to see yours whenever you get your hands on it! Keep up the great work!

Hi j, keep your chin up mate! 😃 I’ve had a lot of JLR products & my F-pace SVR is simply the best by a long stretch. I’m also happy to report that I’ve had no problems with it whatsoever to date. Also I find myself as soon as I have bought my new car starting to plan what I will be getting next, but not on this occasion and if I do it will probably be another SVR. “Well each to their own” Keep up the fantastic video’s James they are all well entertaining & informative! 👍🏻😃
Been avidly following your videos for months James, love them, very engaging. I have a 2011 Aston Martin Rapide you might want to review. Also, I’m planning on buying a rare DB9 manual volante, that might be worth a review
Thanks for the good video and the human touch. On the car... no matter how fast an EV is, it will never ever beat a V8 emotion wise! And... I'm a petrolhead for over 60 years and never ever worry why that is, it simply is!
'You are going to want to rely on it'. Exactly why my Jag ownership lasted just 18 months. Limp mode on a dual carriageway whilst overtaking a wagon, auto gearbox niggles, failed locks meaning I couldn't lock it when on holiday.
Just like to say that was a very well presented video...you could have said the Jag was brilliant and not mention the faults in the hope of gaining favour...but you didn't...you were honest and that shows integrity. As a result I now rate this car and this channel highly. Thanks for the review.
Dear James keep up the good work. You will get through. Take care of yourself, i myself felt not right recently and worse thing to do is to ignore it and soldier on.
Good to see an honest review. Reminded me of carthrottles overheating f type. However, I do wish youd he less Clarkson with all the ford parts bin complaints that aren't valid.
I'd say they're fairly valid in the particular case here. Take a look at the window switches in a macan or X3 and tell me these look acceptable. Not a bit issue in reality but as far as niggles go it's a reasonable one.
I remember test driving the latest XE at a Jaguar dealership, and noticed right away there were warning lights for the brakes. I just couldn't believe a car that has only a few hundred kms has issues already. Great driving car that is more fun to drive than any modern BMW, yet plagued with issues.
And only true car people will do that James. Most people who buy cars like that won't have a backup because a car is just a status thing to go from A to B. Great review.... as usual 😉
Excellent - I don't don't care that Top Gear starts again tomorrow night. Your content is much more car related and interesting than TG is. Weel done James
I bought one, loving the sound, comfort and pace along with surprisingly good handling. A lovely place to while away the miles. Shame about petrol prices though!
Very honest inciteful review. Keep them coming. When you were comparing this Jag and the Porsche, I thought to myself I'd have the Porsche any day cause... reliability and then sure enough...
If there is a one-video example of why more people should follow you, this is probably it. Too many "journalists" stop at what's good, and don't cover what's bad or what's ugly. 'Hope life off-camera levels off while we look forward to the next one.
Another superb video James, thank you. Interesting what you said about the price, back in the 90's when I was selling them an XKR was the price of an average house, fast forward to now and the SV is a bargain!
Great vids, likeable fella, garage to be proud of 😀 Hopefully your worries will be short but great of you to share them for very good reasons. Take care
I have both an I Pace and a diesel F pace. Both have been virtually flawless. While obvs not as fast as the Svr our diesel is an extremely entertaining car to drive. The I pace is just! brilliant I came from a quite troublesome RS4 and the performance if anything (in a straight line) is better
Frustrating that JLR still have these issues, its across the range with all the big cars sadly. Some people get lucky, others I''d swap it as soon as possible! Good honest review, nice one.
Sad to hear of your recent hard times, but the video was very entertaining. I think few channels (or none) describe the sensation of driving a car like this one. I also wonder why cars are so enjoyable. It was made clear when having to drive a hired Toyota Carola; there was zero enjoyment, and the steering was so bad, we had to readjust during a turn. However, while in a car set up so well, it is like we can instantly obtain that flow state. Add a great soundtrack and it is a very enjoyable state. Is that the same engine in the Project 8? Good to hear it is "the most characterful engine available." I'm thinking of the P8 this year. Your video of that has been useful in the decision.
You're doing brilliant work James. Sorry to hear you're having a tough time.
I second this. Hope you're well dude.

Also I find myself as soon as I have bought my new car starting to plan what I will be getting next, but not on this occasion and if I do it will probably be another SVR. “Well each to their own” Keep up the fantastic video’s James they are all well entertaining & informative! 👍🏻😃
That exhaust note sounds good though!
Another great video Jay, keep up the good work. We are all here with you.
Thankyou kind sir
Always like your reviews, keep up the good work.
Epic noise that V8, great way to burn petrol.
Dear James keep up the good work. You will get through. Take care of yourself, i myself felt not right recently and worse thing to do is to ignore it and soldier on.
Thanks! Appreciate it
Hi James! Thank you for your honest words. A very rare streak in my opinion.
Love the honesty James. Keep up the good work.
Hope you are feeling better and things improve ..... V8’s are sometimes the best thing to brighten your day. Keep the great content coming 👍🏻
Couldn't agree more!
Great video again. Sorry to hear your having a tough week. Hopefully things improve soon.
I remember test driving the latest XE at a Jaguar dealership, and noticed right away there were warning lights for the brakes. I just couldn't believe a car that has only a few hundred kms has issues already. Great driving car that is more fun to drive than any modern BMW, yet plagued with issues.
Good, honest review as always. I hope whatever issues you have had recently become easier to deal with in the near future.
Always good videos James, sorry to hear of your personal issues, keep positive thinking
And only true car people will do that James.
Most people who buy cars like that won't have a backup because a car is just a status thing to go from A to B.
Great review.... as usual 😉
An absolutely superb review. Entertaining and very informative. EASILY one of the best car channels on YT.
Excellent - I don't don't care that Top Gear starts again tomorrow night. Your content is much more car related and interesting than TG is. Weel done James
Great video James. I hope your okay.
I bought one, loving the sound, comfort and pace along with surprisingly good handling. A lovely place to while away the miles. Shame about petrol prices though!
live in south africa?
Very honest inciteful review. Keep them coming. When you were comparing this Jag and the Porsche, I thought to myself I'd have the Porsche any day cause... reliability and then sure enough...
Came across your channel and I subscribed ! Ty for this review
Love all our reviews James and hope things improves for you all our best wishes man
If there is a one-video example of why more people should follow you, this is probably it. Too many "journalists" stop at what's good, and don't cover what's bad or what's ugly. 'Hope life off-camera levels off while we look forward to the next one.
Great video James. Hope you are able to fix whatever is making things difficult for you.
I have one and two times on 9000 km it have had yellow engine light due to failing O2 sensor.....but I still love this car. It drives fantastic
Take care
All the best James. Keep up the great work 🙂
It’s going to be fun when Jaguar becomes all electric 😂
Probably more reliable. Aren't all the battery/drivetrain gubbins in the ipace from LG?
Let’s hope they stay clear of “Lucas” 😂
@@davespooney8472 Luckily Lucas went bankrupt long time ago
@@enricol5974 they never went bankrupt. They merged with an American company and then the joint company was bought out by TRW.
You seem like a top egg mate. Keep up the good work.
Keep up the good work! Btw, I think that's the 2020 model. The 21 has a different interior and front and rear facias.
Great review , sorry that you are having a tough time chin up and keep up the good work 👍
Nice work James. Hope things improve for you. Take care
God Bless You Jay.... Love ur point of view & the way you throw yourself into these reviews!
Thanks Stuart, I try!
You should give the 2021 SVR a ride. Some reasonably significant upgrades all around...including the location of the window buttons!
Frustrating that JLR still have these issues, its across the range with all the big cars sadly. Some people get lucky, others I''d swap it as soon as possible! Good honest review, nice one.
what a great video.. your presenting style is easy to watch and enjoyable.. Love your honesty and that you tell it how it is, warts and all..
Thanks Andy, that's the aim!
Really nice, honest review. Subbed.
