This in an actual concept album. One coherent story of a head of state going through phases in his relationship with the people. Brilliant!

There's a great fan video of this song where all the (then) surviving Gentle Giant- members are joining in.
    Boy, these guys were funky!

Power and the Glory tells the story of Kings and rulers and their relationship with their people. Opening song echo effect is to represent the King’s proclamation that he is the King/omnipotent ruler in an open air speech . Fabulous lyrics… they are as relevant to today’s political leaders and average Joe’s as they were to Medieval Kings and peasants. There’s even a song about the glorification of jousters which compares to today’s pro sport athletes. Gentle Giant had some very intelligent interesting talented members.

Like Supertramp, these guys like to build their rhythms into a funky bop with angular chord changes that keep you on your toes. Another uniquely creative group of fine musicians. Ain't it great?

Guitar is prominent on the final track, "Valedictory," a return to the opening theme. It’s wicked.

Fantastic album - well worth digging deeper into when you have the time. Not a weak track on it IMO.
I hear what you're saying about the echo effects on the vocals, but it fits conceptually - this is a newly elected (or installed) leader giving his first big speech to the masses. This is probably GG's best attempt at a concept album - it charts the rise and fall of a political leader, but in very abstracted terms which makes it as relevant today as it was when it was released nearly fifty years ago.

One of the best albums of prog-rock. Not my favorite song of the album but it is a masterpiece as all the rest.

Since you are familiar with this band, is keyboard predominant in all or most their songs? Thanks

No, Kerry Minnear is not as predominant as Keith Emerson or Tony Banks for example, even if he was the main composer with Ray Shulman (RIP). But this band is really special, they all can play a lot of different instruments. Check it out! @@metalmark1214

@@metalmark1214 Hi Mark. Yes keyboard and voices are predominant. What, to me, is very special about GG is they didn't compose with chords arrangements but with intricating melodies. In many of their songs you can't hear chords played, at least I feel it that way. Try the song On Reflection (the studio version, the live is very different but great also), it starts acapella and then each instrument comes in by playing a melodie. In fact most songs were writte by Kerry Minnear (keyboards) and Ray Schulman (bass and many other instruments).

Dude, you keep dissapearing, then you come back with such interesting picks.
You really need to check out the fans video of this song. It's truly amazing. The band even make cameo appearances with in the video. Truly, it is an amazing video and you should react to it. For the letter "H", Steve Hackett, Voyage of the Acolyte. Excellent!

OK. Time to go back to Genesis. (another 'G') You might try some Phil era from the '70s. 'Dance on a Volcano' will blow your mind. 'Ripples' is laid-back honey for the ears. Or jump ahead to some live concerts such as at Wembley with 'ABACAB'. It ROCKS live. 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' is creative audio heaven (Peter is the lead). So much to explore (don't forget 'Supper's Ready'!)

Steve Stapleton remixes leave their mark. It's worth doing an A-B. I prefer the fan video of this song, actually.

I have heard the band name of Gentle Giant but never explored their discography. This I'd put in the class of almost Funky. Keyboard is definitely the predominant sound in this. Definitely upbeat.

G is for Genesis, surely! This was nice as well though. Reminded me of Herbie Hancock - Headhunters at some point.
