  • What is the best movie for historical gamers to see this holiday season???? Believe it or not we think it is Godzilla Minus One! There has been some buzz about this new look at Godzilla so we decided to check it out and give you are reaction....and compare it to Ridley Scott's NAPOLEON.
Set at the end of World War Two this Japanese film, looks back on the reality of post-war Japan through the eyes of a kamikaze pilot...while also celebrating the classic Godzilla films. The historical inaccuracies of the Battle of Waterloo in NAPOLEON stand in contrast to the accurate portrayal of post-war Japanese navy. Its worth a look!

Saw it and Napoleon, I never would have guessed Godzilla would be the more historically accurate film! Highly recommended.

Godzilla Minus One, is probably the best move, not just monster movie, that I've seen in a long time. How it deals with the PTSD, of combatants and non-combatants, individuals and culturally was amazing. *****'s Absolutely Recommend!

Thanks guys! My co-workers also recommended the new Godzilla movie. As a child of the 60's and 70's, I grew up watching this magnificent creature thrash Tokyo and other locations every Saturday Afternoon! I'm also a big Blue Oyster Cult fan, and their awesome song 'Godzilla'!

In the middle of watching Godzilla Minus One, I literally leaned over to my wife and said, "This is a Godzilla movie and it's a million times better than Napoleon."

It took Godzilla Minus One to take the bad taste of Napoleon out of my mouth also. I warned everyone about Napoleon, and praised the team that made G-1. I remember the original Godzilla in the early 60`s not the Raymond Burr hijack version! My only criticism of the big guy is this. Why go crunchy on one of only two parts of Tokyo not bombed during the war!!!! He could have swept clean some of the rubble and helped rebuild the city before the next rampage!!!!!🥰

    Saw it last night.
Godzilla was just a plot point in an amazing film about post-war Japan and coming to grips with PTSD and survivor's guilt.

Really enjoyed Godzilla Minus One. Restored my faith in filmmakers. Another recommended film is the Three Musketeers: Milady. The second of a trilogy of French films based on the Dumas classic ( first film was released last April). Really well shot with reasonably accurate fight scenes.

They apparently made this new Godzilla movie for the salary of one A-list actor in a Hollywood action blockbuster.

Something that I found very interesting, was the fact that it accurately depicted the fear of the Japanese military. when people joined the military, well, I should say when men joined the military, they were told they were going to die. So they should do something of value beforehand. (I.e. kill 5 Americans, which is horrible) So when that man in the movie asks, are we going to die? And Noda responds with “of course not” It’s a bit deeper than you think.

Howzabout a Godzilla at the Battle of the Bulge wargame video? I think a 3 sided game-- Germans vs USA vs The Big Lizard would be great.

Hoping to see it sometime soon, glad it sounds like a fun movie. Monster Island and Giant Monster Rampage are two rulesets worth checking out if you're into a kaiju battle game.

Director Yamazaki loves Takao so much. It is the reason the movie is set in 1947. Takao was scuttled in 1946. He gave her one more year to live. The movie is about people who couldn't end their war, so he wanted to show the weapons not used in war. Shinden, Type 4 tanks, and etc.

tbf, Godz-1 was made by the Japanese for the Japanese. So they took care to get it right. Napoleon was made by a Brit for the Brits but about the French. So no wonder RScott didn't care about accuracy.

I honestly found it to be the other way 'round. Napoleon was an intense relationship movie that didn't bother too much with historical accuracy, but gave us some beautiful vistas. Too bad Ridley Scott didn't do more with the gallery of characters, like some of the marshalls or Kutuzov for that matter. But he's not the movie maker he once was.
Watch it for Josephine, she's great.
Godzilla Minus One spent way too much time pouring the emotions on thick. It could easily been cut down by 30 minutes and been much better for it. What a snooze-fest. Watch it for post-war Japan. Not for the fat layer of melodrama.
