Håvard Ramberg I was drawn to this channel by his other content. I’ve honestly pretty much stopped watching it for the most part because it’s mostly SCP videos now. This is a nice change and the type of content I subbed for.
I can agree with this sentiment somewhat. Usually a zombie should retain only minimal motor functions, just enough to be able to move. Being able to run like athletes however sounds too... I don't know, it makes it feel like a videogame then.
yh the problem is that runners make zombie films more believably threatening to survivors its doable but if your not romero or max brooks your likely a lazy b movie maker or wwz directors?>_> and a runner zombie is easier to work with in other words expect to see more of em
Honestly it depends on the method of transformation. A freshly made zombie would still have the none strength to run or sprint and wouldn't tire. But to keep the lore consistent they should not run.
But what do you call a 'Zombie' Outbreak/Apocalypse when you're referring to the running infected kind? This is a big thing in the arguments of whether 'zombies' could exist, since the rabid, running infected type are more realistic than the Undead, but people who argue against the realism will automatically assume you're talking about the Living Dead type zombies. So what do we call the fast ones that aren't dead but are infected/rabid?
Walking Dead is not popular just because zombies are in it. Its peaks our curiosity as to how to survive a apocalypse dealing with mostly corrupt people and zombies. Although not accurate it delivers enough to the point it is an enjoyable show.
To me it's a fairly well out together example of how low we as a species can sink, and what we'd do given EVERYTHING going to complete hell. I like the fact it shows not only the good people, but the bad as well.
@Shoudday Cha well I mean its basic logic if it can hear u then it will come to u. I'm not a walking dead fan either . I love the classics and i also got my "knowledge" from the zombies survival guide....great book . What movie are u talking about ?
The Serpent and the Rainbow, the book that Wade Davis wrote about his research concerning zombies, was the basis for a brilliant 1988 movie with the same title that was directed by Wes Craven.
Still prefer the Zombie as a useless unit you throw in front of a enemy in order to prevent them from reacting to your big giant amalvacation of corpses, reanimated dragons, spectral chariots of doom and other undead monstrosities. All controlled by a necromancer.
You forgot the dark fantasy aspect of the modern zombie. Its that one man or one small group against the world trying to get by at the end of the world.
Enjoyed it immensely , as well as, the other insightful comments. I'm in the process of developing a pilot for a zombie type horror series, but I took a different mythology approach, that I don't believe has been used before.
What a fantastic video. Historically, geographically, and culturally diverse whilst being slowly and thoroughly explained. Well done. Keep up the good work.
I remember this one voodoo zombie flick called The Serpent and the Rainbow. Had this nightmare quality to it. I believe Wes Craven was the director to reintroduce the subservient walking dead in the 80's. This was a unique horror movie.
I always viewed Zombies in pop-culture as social commentary. The zombies of old were slow, and ever present. Much like during the times of the Red Scare and communism. The Zombies of today are faster, and come at all different angles, akin to the terrorist threats we don't see coming. The book series Feed is set years after the initial zombie uprising, and the focus on those books is about increased security over personal liberties, Random blood tests to make sure you're not infected, people stop going out as much because out is where the chance to get bitten are higher, much like increased awareness that we put ourselves through with all of the new Security Measures that we go through - TSA, Increased CC Cameras, allowing more random stops and checks.
Geralt of Rivia it’s not now but it used to be. It’s already happening, we’re just not dead zombies. Just work never have fun it’s not productive. Repeat.
Another great video. I only wish RUclips would send me the notification. I even have "the bell dinged". I was lucky enough that I saw you in passing in my Recently Uploaded feed.
The one book/film you missed out linked to Haitian zombies is "The Rainbow And The Snake". Not sure when the book came out but the film was from the 80s.
The stories of people being cursed by Bokors (Witch Doctors) and being brought back are truth, in a way. A few historians found that the zombie potion uses very diluted puffer fish venon (if I'm not wrong, being a while since I read the article) to induce this fake death state. The foundings point to this zombification being a punishiment for traitors or other criminals that were part of the family of the Bokor, so they would not be killed, but cursed to be an eternal undead slave. For me, that is one of the reasons people fear voodoo so much (beyond being the religion of a foreign people)
Some sources also believe that the docile, subservient nature of the zombie came from severe brain damage stemming from the oxygen deprivation after the live burial.
There's a weird irony to the walking dead games. The ones we got that were based off the show so far have been bad. Yet the ones based off the comic have been good.
Not sure if something is wrong with my speakers or your mic but there is a small breaking sound when my speakers are too loud but good video anyway love your work since Cthulhu 👍
It seems that this video has overlooked two kinds of zombie namely the Ghoul which is actually the Islamic name for what we would call a zombie & the revenant which is the type that most closely resembles the movie version namely walking around eating people. If you check the real history of what we call zombies you will find a very interesting account from a monk written in the 12th century in England in which he reported encounters with revenants from villagers who reportedly saw family members that they had just buried walking around & as for the ghoul they are said to be mostly women who offended Allah & as a result were cursed to wander the desert eating travellers & merchants who they would entice & call to before having them for lunch. The ghoul differs from the English version in that they would often hunt in groups of two or three & could change their appearance to look like a beautiful young woman in distress in order to bring their prey as it were close enough before revealing their true hideous appearance & having their victim for lunch. There are also versions of revenants in China which is why Chinese mummy's are bound in a particular manner before they are buried if they are bound improperly the the revenant will get up & attack people however they can only hop after their prey & then there are possibly the most dangerous type of revenant namely the Viking revenants who know exactly what they are & are armed with whatever weapons they were buried with. The Viking revenants were Vikings who revelled in killing & destruction & were therefore greatly feared EVEN by other vikings but they were said to only return from the dead if a person stole something from their tomb or in the case of vikings their burial mound then the occupant of the mound might awaken & come after the thieving git killing anyone in their way until they recovered their property & then they would go back to their grave. It might also be of interest to anyone reading this that over the past 20 or so years quite a lot of so-called zombie graves have been uncovered some dating from over 1000 years ago with their heads cut off & placed at their feet as opposed to the many so-called vampire graves uncovered where metal objects were placed in coffins with the occupants to pierce the bodies if they moved & indeed the precautions we take today show that perhaps subconsciously we still fear the return of the dead in that we securely screw down a coffin lid when someone dies not to prevent anyone breaking in but rather to prevent the occupant from getting out.
Ghouls aren't technically of the dead--they just *eat* the dead (and were probably based on hyenas eating corpses in the cemetery after dark). And revenants are the Western European version of vampire, except less emphasis on blood-drinking, and more to do with bad omens.
An interesting note on Frankenstein’s Monster that I learned a few days ago is that’s he was never a hideous zombie thing. In the original work, he was described as beautiful (though had weird looking eyes), incredibly strong and durable, and only had the intelligence of a child when he was first created. Furthermore, he apparently was intended by Viktor to have a name of his own: Adam.
I'm a wee bit sad you didn't mention Call of Duty Zombies, but I understand you had a lot to cover and COD wasn't exactly transformative for Zombies as a whole
