The chef was prob thinkin bout how annoying the host was
I thought the host was rude and I was shocked when he basically threw away the gold leaf into the wind.
+joseph mckenna - Its done for the dramatic effect. This is basically a commercial for the hotel and he only sprinkled like 20 dollars worth. This review is worth way more than that for the hotel if it reaches their audience.

Sophie N look at that thing. Each cake slice maybe like twenty dollars if sold individually. Four of those fried oreos twelve dollars. Fried snickers the same. Hershey balls four dollars each. And alllll that ice cream. Yeah, its cheap, especially when split between sixteen people
Is it supposed to look like that? I wish they hadn't let the host do so much of it. You would think he would have an eye for it, being an editor of Bon Appetite, but he really didn't. And instead of doing an attractive mound of whipped cream as asked, he though to make a crappy looking initial? Uneven, lopsided, badly arranged cake slices? The chef was very patient with him. They should have at least put in a photo of one done by the chef later.

I remember going to Serendipity 3 in New York and the frozen hot chocolate seriously changed me forever.

I think the treasure-chest lid looks pretty while the treasure itself is a disorganized mess of cake slices, confections, and garnish. Still, there's a lot of delicious variety and the whole thing is reasonable at $100. Especially for a festive occasion, and shared by many.
