  • The pickup started popping out of gear. Here is what I did to fix it.
    Should be the same for 1985 to 1995. Hope this video helps someone out.

    I had 2 different repair shops tell me the shift forks were worn and transmission needed to be rebuilt. After I said screw that, I played with the shifter lever and figured out that it shifted fine if I just lifted it a bit from the transmission. Then I pulled it out and learned the rubber bushing was completely disintegrated. Replaced that 15 years ago with a oem, and did it again yesterday with an Ebay aftermarket different material because it was completely disintegrated again. I hate how these shops lie to people about a $20 fix.

      Hopefully soon. Want to change the timing chain, so most likely will do the head gasket at the same time.

    What size are those 4 screws that hold the mounting together? Mine are missing and I cannot figure out what size it is

      I would call Toyota Dealer, and see if they know. If not, ask them for the part number, and research from there. You could also go to a wrecking yard and pull them. Maybe buy some from a wrecked pickup on facebook. They should be metric, so you could just try some metric screws.

    The shifter knob is so hard to remove that I have never taken it off.

    Hey I know this is an old video but I have an identical 91 pick up and it recently got stuck in reverse like it won’t go into any other gear, I tried the “removing reverse light sensor and pushing pin readwards” I’m gonna take a look at the bushing when I get home but if this doesn’t fix it any ideas?

      While pushing the stick out of revers, have someone gently rock the truck front, and back.

    causes cancer in california 😂

      All products sold in California must prove they do not cause cancer in order to get the right to have that silly-sounding warning removed from their product. The warning means the supplier has either chosen to not secure proof, for whatever reason (like maybe it does cause cancer, or maybe it is just not cost effective to prove a hunk of metal or plastic does not cause cancer).

    Is the 1990 model the same method?

    • @tubejim101
      @tubejim101  3 года назад +1

      Think 85 to 95 DLX models should be the same.

      @@tubejim101 thank you 🙌 I did everything but I was unable to remove my shift knob I tried twisting it counterclockwise and nothing. Like if it was welded in 😅. Any clue how I can go about that? I want to get a new shift knob

    Is it okay to remove gear boot when driving?

    • @Henny_Daddy

      Yeah, it’s just a cover so you don’t see all that nasty stuff under the boot🤣

      As long as you don’t mind vermin, dirt, wind and water entering your cab, the upper boot is not necessary. The lower boot is required to keep all those things out of your transmission box.
