Good enough video man. Congrats but I think we all know someone that has passed away due to working on cars or trucks without jack stands. Jack stands are life savers especially when teaching the young ones how to do one of there first repairs. Also chuck the tires. Safety first safety 2nd safety 3rd. Repair 4th. Promote chuck's and stands brothaman . People will do what u post. Anyway Cool, video dude. Very informative. I wish you well.
That's exactly what I was thinking the problem was! I actual had that bolt completely fall out on my way to work the other day. Thankfully it was in 4th when it happened so I was able to make it there in time, but it was rough. Thanks a bunch man!
I expected to see something fixed as the title states, and yet he fixed nothing. Its not comforting that almost every direction given is prefaced with "I think".
2 years late but im really hoping you mean bored because vored means something completely different if you've ever ended up on the dark side of the internet
The stick in our E30 is the worst I have ever seen. My wife and I have been driving it for ten plus years. Didnt realize how bad it was until someone else went to move it......and couldn't drive it! LOL. Works fine for us!
Dude you're sending people on a wild goose chase with this video. The U joints where the linkage connects to the transmission is where the problem is. Just squeeze them in a table vice until they are tight against the plastic washers. Boom. Problem solved.
just a shift bushing. no matter what gear my car is in i can soup boul the whole shifter and not pull it outta gear unless i do it a certain way lol. i like it personally
My shifter recently became hard to move. My exhaust broke behind the cat and now I'm wondering if maybe the heat from my exhaust melted the bushings? Would that cause my shifter to be hard to move?
Jordan, a friend recently had a basic d series engine replacement in his 1997 Civic Coupe Ex and when he got his car back everything was great EXCEPT the linkage is off center towards the right. He's having a problem getting into fifth and reverse is a coin toss. Shifting itself is very smooth like when it was new but just moved too far to the right.Given the issues I've described is this a t bracket issue or a problem with the linkage binding? I would really appreciate your expertise.
hey, nice vid. i'm gonna try this on my civic. i'm gonna buy the plastic piece and the rubber bushings on the ends. do you know what the plastic piece is actually called? i tryed calling napa and they had a hard time trying to find it. is there a name for this part?
will this problem cause my car from going into gear? clutch seams to be fine but the stick seams to be loose was wondering if this could cause that issue?
I need to fix my shifter because in my ek the shifter is very loose, but because I plan on going diy I have a couple questions. Does the car need to be in gear or neutral before I do this? Can the middle plastic piece that needs to be replaced, be replaced with a harder more durable piece, like polyurethane or even metal?
I have a problem with my linkage on my 00 civic ex coupe (it has a swap), the linkage is offset to the right and down I can't put the car in 4th and reverse, up to now I'm just going to replace the whole linkage I know for a fact that the linkage was some how bent at the tip where the shifter connects to the linkage during the swap process, please if anyone thinks this is the way to go, your confirmation would be most appreciated.
My stick shifter won't go into gear at all. I didn't notice any problem, and then all of the sudden it was just not catching in any gear at all, no matter what I do. It is stuck in 1st gear, and I can push the clutch pedal in, and drive the car forward with no problem. Does that mean my clutch needs to be completely replaced?
Hello I'm reallllly having problems with my looser shifter. I own a 1999 honda civic em1 and my shifter has has a lotttttt of play it's really annoying. I already replaced the transmission shifter bushings(energy suspension) and it did nothing! I'm really curious to know what the piece is called that you are saying to replace so I can go purchase it. thanks any help would be highly appreciated!!
Eduardo Soto yes I did actually, it's my shifter itself the bushings in it are worn. I'm going all out though and replacing my shifter, shift knob, and shift linkage at the same time lol. That should eliminate all of the play hopefully. Thanks for asking btw.
+Tecumseh MacGuigan yes getting a new shifter will help the slop dramatically. If you still have a lot of slop after the new shifter then it's time to replace the shift linkage. U joint usually wears out over time.
oooo a 98 with si rims, I don't know what you're replacing, but I bought an energy suspension bushing set for the shifter and transmission stablizer, it does not include the part you are changing. It is the part just behind the shifter which u can see, there is a ushape bracket with 2 12 mm bolts in it and the stablizer bushing. I don't actually know what you're replacing
This is one way try to fix the loose shifter problem but it could also be the linkage itself. The part that goes into the trans could be going bad. You have to replace the whole linkage then. I have that problem on my Civic. Its no big deal
I got the same car (bought today). It also has a loose stick. But i think i'm gonna install a short shifter, because the shifter of the 99 civic is very long. and it comes with rubbers. only costs like 20 bucks more than just the rubbers
Hey, my sisters is loose as well and it goes straight into all gears with no clutch and its loose as hell and moves like it but, there is a squeak on and it sounds like a knock in engine bay, would this solution fix all of this?
Hi im wondering if you can help me out its just so lose man, when i put my stick in its not getting any tighter and its all wet at the bottom ? any suggestions
Umm first never leave it on the floor jack put a stand under it it and I would lift it from the middle put it in gear and jack stand both sides oh and uh don’t say thingy get to know what the parts are called and I’m pretty sure you could have used a deep well socket but good job with lighting and camera angle👍
Care to tell me where you got your piece? O'Rielly's doesn't carry it, or their guys don't know what it is. The name of the plastic piece is the CHANGE LEVER BALL SEAT, and you can get it at the dealership but fuck that.
lina91mh Thank you so much for this reply listening to this moron I ordered 1 the wrong part 2 destroyed my ball seat lever. Now that I know what it is actually called I can go get a new Ball seat lever assembly
it would've been better if you actually took it out....i'm having this problem atm and i got my middle piece out. i only see 4 rubber o ring on the side......???? confused.

He had a jack stand under the car
He's got ramps under the wheels and a jack stand
That's exactly what I was thinking the problem was! I actual had that bolt completely fall out on my way to work the other day. Thankfully it was in 4th when it happened so I was able to make it there in time, but it was rough. Thanks a bunch man!

@Maddux Kolton Whatever you say, Nigerian Prince
"I think, therefore I am."
Lmaooo i always thought my civic was meant to be all wobbly. I even play around with it when im vored at traffic
jajaj funny

The intro is awsome
use a jack stand.
+Alex Martel The wheel is up on a tire stand, it's fine as long as he doesn't need to remove the wheels and almost safer in most cases.
Dude you're sending people on a wild goose chase with this video. The U joints where the linkage connects to the transmission is where the problem is. Just squeeze them in a table vice until they are tight against the plastic washers. Boom. Problem solved.
thanks for all the videos I still use them for reference all the time
just a shift bushing. no matter what gear my car is in i can soup boul the whole shifter and not pull it outta gear unless i do it a certain way lol. i like it personally
Good job on the vid. Explained everything well. Keep it up
Can’t believe I found a solution on one click, thanks.
Found this very helpful thanks so much!

Thanks, I needed this info. 98 S-10 2.2 Long miles but runs good. I really like having a stick. Now I can fix it, Again, Thanks
would this make the shifter move when you let off the gas it moves like a good inch back and forth
Hi, this is the problem with my 98 Civic. What is the name of that plastic piece so I know what to ask/look for?
Thank you, this is the video I needed
Thank you verry helpful. buying a 96 civic was told the shifter was a little loose so this should fix it. thanks

Thanks. But what's it called so I can get a new one?
YESSS! This helped me sooo much. Btw, good job with the lighting and camera angle
Do you loose gears after a while?
will this problem cause my car from going into gear? clutch seams to be fine but the stick seams to be loose was wondering if this could cause that issue?
Jose Andalon no
What is the plastic piece called? Do you have a part number or can link me to an eBay page with the part?
I have this problem but it’s gotten so bad it just falls out of fear and I can’t put it in gear

How do you replace a shifting knob from a 2003 Chevy Cavalier?
Love the video. Would like to know any similarity to fixing a loose shifter with the honda accord 2002

You’re getting under a car with only a jack ?
If Mr Mackey has a son.so now lets get to mmmmk lol.
You are calling it the wrong thing you are on the Ball seat not the Shift linkage bushing.
Part numbers?
as of today, go to NAPA,, search for shifter bushing kit,,,, this is the kit for this fix
as of this date its 14 bucks
ymmv
How would I fix the grind into 3rd gear?
Bad clutch. I’m only 8 years late
would this be similar in a kia spectra?
nvm i got it. replaced the plastic pieve and it's all stiff now. :D
Isn’t that just a clutch slave cylinder
thanks!
Jack stands are cheap
U look like Steven crowder with a beard
Thankyou
As easy and cheap and simple it is to throw in a short shifter kit id do it but thats my opinion.
Thank u
Use jackstands! Those ramps wont save your life.
No jack stands
That's what I was thinking.
why the hell he wants jack stands if he is using ramps?
