For this category Books Any% it doesn't matter since the only things not allowed are ropes and harness. Soon RTA categories will be implemented and some of them will most likely be run on You Fall You Die mode. Since not everyone has completed the game, especially on YFYD, it is mostly for fairness that starting a new savefile is required. YFYD also allows to skip conversations with NPCs. For individual level speedrun categories, a new savefile or not won't matter.
