We're off on the first of two "side-by-side" cruises to Alaska, this time aboard Serenade Of The Seas from Royal Caribbean! We sailed from September 6-13, 2021 and our port call in Icy Strait Point was canceled due to weather, but join us for some fun in Sitka, Juneau, and Ketchikan, as well as the Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier. We sailed Independence OTS in 2019. We went to all the trivia. Our first one was 90s cartoons - we won - my son knew them ALL. We felt soo smart THEN the next trivia was airline logos. It was brutal - we got 3. 🤣🤣🤣

Ha I was gonna wait until yalls review of the bed. Rc to me has always had the hardest beds ever. We had our steward put like 4 comforters under our sheets until they got semi comfy. Lol. That’s a koala lol

Is that what it’s called? When we were on Grandeur, they just called it “essenced water” or some such, and it was lemon-lime, strawberry kiwi, mango, things like that. It would come from the little drink machine with four options. It was nowhere to be found on this ship without apparently paying for it. Strange!!
@@parodeejay So all those machines around the WJ they weren't making the drinks and handing them out? Or making them upon request? I seen them so wasn't sure if you were speaking of something in a bottle onboard. I always ask F&B manager or whatever supervisor is on that WJ deck onboard just in case the crew didn't understand what I may be asking for. Hopefully it will be onboard and available for our Alaska sailing next year on Serenade.
No, the machines were sitting empty and unused. Curious to see when we board Symphony tomorrow... pretty sure I've seen recent photos of the ol' mango water and lemon lime and all on there, hah...

I’m looking forward to the solarium as I’ve never experienced that on a ship. First non Carnival cruise director I’ve seen. So different. I love all the glass windows on this ship. I enjoy a good Key Lime Pie. How do you rank RC’s?

We got off the Serenade on Sept 6..the beds are so hard I'm pretty sure I had a bruise on my hip lol..I know some people prefer the hard mattresses

Adventure had a pre-made roast beef sandwich at Promenade Cafe but we never found the freshly carved version, no!!

You found the Roast Beef Sand-fishes!! You always make me chuckle when filming Jay keeps that camera rolling when Dee thinks it is off...but she quickly is on to you, even without looking! I am really enjoying the series!

Cafe Lattetudes should be fine. Only Starbucks is excluded, and I don’t believe Serenade has a dedicated Starbucks location.
If you were cruising in June or July - it would still be light outside! :-) It's all about timing.
Royal must of hired the people that did the Dump Way to Die to do their safety videos
Question if you know do they have testing inside the ship for international travel going back home?
For the most part, no. You would have to find a test locally after getting off the ship, and some airports offer it.
I only know Southwest, Quantas and American Airlines
The piped in birds sounds. Anything like the birds in The Tiki Room at Disneyworld?
They don’t dance quite as well in the Solarium, but it’s remarkably similar!! :P
Watch for water spouts those are the whales. I use to see them in the mornings

weird, i was just talking to my husband about service dogs and where they would go, never seen a video with a dog in it i didnt see no dog on my cruise , do all cruise lines allow service dogs?
From what we’ve seen, yes. We usually see at least one dog on most cruises, hah.

We are thinking of doing our first Alaska cruise next year. Can you give us an idea of what the daily temperatures are in your vlogs?
I’m sure the temps can vary drastically but we were hanging 50s-60s most days, I’d say.

QUESTION: I'm curious if Royal is providing any enrichment seminars on Alaska. Tony is on Princess and they have a naturalist giving daily talks on the wildlife and other interesting things about Alaska. We are Diamond on Royal and would normally cruise on Royal, but I really like the idea of having these seminars. Can you let me know if Royal has anything like this on their Alaskan cruise. PS I always LOVE your cruise videos and watch all of them. ❤
On this particular cruise they did not. 2 years ago on Carnival Legend they did several we also went through Glacier bay and they brought on park rangers. We are curious to see if they do on the Miracle ad we board it today. Fingers crossed. We really enjoyed that before.

We enjoy the Oasis class ships and always seek this out in the Park Cafe in the Central Park area. Yummy!
Segregating vaccinated vs. non-vaccinated? Yikes. I won't be supporting any cruise line that does that. It's sad, because we loved cruising. Also, their new "gotta stay apart to be together" song is over the top. No one actually believes that lol. I watch your vlogs to see whats changing on cruiselines, thanks for sharing what's going on.
It has been interesting to see the different cruise lines approach to sailing these days. Royal has gone the route of creating a “class” system which allows vaccinated guests to remove masks in certain indoor venues. Carnival isn’t separating folks by vaccination status, but is requiring masks in most public areas, inside and out. So it’s a matter of how you prefer to cruise, or possibly NOT cruise these days, ha ha… :P
