That makes me imagine he's afraid there'll be a new Mythbusters episode where they just read through a law book and point out inaccuracies in Better Call Saul and don't do anything interesting or scientific

No all of the meth making was VERY accurate on breaking bad, maybe what was not accurate was some of the other scenes where they made bombs and ricin etc.

I don’t know who else caught this, but my favorite part of this whole scene is when Saul is about the play the tape of the incident and he rolls the tv out in front of the court, one man gets up immediately and walks out, lol. Like, you know it’s probably one of the boys’ father who already knows what he’s about to have to see.
It is amazing that a show can get all the realism correct WHILE being such an entertaining story. It also deserves an A for entertaining and an A++ for being able to do both at the same time.
If Saul was a lawyer today, I think we would see him promoting himself with controversial RUclips videos and get free suits for wearing them in his videos hehehe. Also please do more lawyer reacts videos to Better Call Saul, because we just started watching it and we're confused by a lot of legal speak.

There's a lot of great episodes of this show you could review. It is among the most accurate legal shows mainly because it isn't really about the law, but about the lives of these lawyers.
Just want to comment to say I didn't expect to love this channel as much as I do. Saul, Suits, and Ace Attorney are all shows that I like and it's cool to see someone not only react to them, but give some professional perspective. I would love if you continued with any or all of those shows, because there's much more in all of them that I'd love to hear you comment on!
I caught a municipal court judge in NJ taking his formal looking judge's robe off post trial. That guy had nothing but a Jimmy Buffet concert tee and tighty whiteys on under that shit lol. He was unshaved, and looked like he just woke up and drove to work without any hygiene routine whatsoever. I looked it up, the average judges salary in NJ is between 183, and 205 k/yr. Add the kickbacks he probably gets from prisons to lock up as many people as possible, and he gets plenty of money not to look like a homeless guy they found in Penn station and put a judges robe on his stank ass. He looked soo miserable too, I couldn't help but think about what a tough life the poor guy must have. Showing up for ,"work"' as late as he wants, and he was at least 90 min late every day. Then he has to pass judgement on others and fine the shit out of them, lock them up or both, while being as condescending, and disgusted with them as possible. I know they worked hard to get where they are, and he'd probably make more as a defense attorney, but all he has to do is work 2 or 3 times a week tops for maybe 3 hours. Plus it's not really work, there's no labor at all, and he has clerks to do all his paperwork. He just reads conditions, and fines right off a script. 999 out of a 1000 people would trade jobs in a heartbeat. Cops are the same way, the poor guys have to drive around and harass folks who kiss their ass all day. Probably once a day they get to arrest someone for a unpaid ticket warrant, or possession. Then they act like their life is on the line all day every day when 99% of them patrol really nice areas, or highways. My small town has over 70 of the pigs, while Camden, Trenton, and Newark have a handful. Camden has spots so bad cops, and ambulances won't even go there or they will get jacked for their whip. Imagine calling 911 cuz your having a heart attack, and they tell you to walk a few blocks over cuz they're shook to go into your hood. They should definitely take half the cops from the rich, crime free areas of NJ where there not needed and put them in the hood.
I'm a bit late here, but if you revisit this series, S3 E5 "Chicanery" would be a good one to review. Pretty much the whole episode is in a courtroom, and it's especially good if you've watched the whole series up until that point.
Just a quick FYI: I work in the building where they film the courtroom scenes (415 Tijeras Ave, Albuquerque NM--old Bernalillo County jail and courthouse). Trust me when I say the bathrooms are set set somewhere other than this building.
Objection: Goodman makes his closing argument _before_ the prosecutor shows the video, which serves as his closing argument. In a trial, the prosecution always goes first. If the prosecutor wanted to show a video for his closing argument, it should have come before, allowing Goodman to respond to it. (This is the only error I saw, and I'm guessing it's what brought the final grade down from an A to an A-)
Overruled - In most jurisdictions, the government gets the last word because they carry the burden. I'm pretty sure New Mexico is like this or would have been like this at the time. Some jurisdictions recognize that this is unfair, given the power of the State and have reversed the order. In Federal Court, the prosecutor closes, then the defendant, but then the prosecutor has an opportunity to reply to the defendant's close.
He used “Saul Goodman” first as a fake name/alias to do illegal shit. At the end of season 4 it is implied that Jimmy is going to officially change his name to Saul Goodman to get out of his brother’s shadow.
Yeah, you learn that you need a license for basically everything (well, i guess you don't need to represent yourself, but it is strongly advised not to represent yourself and get a lawyer)
@@dominickschrute3084 Heavily in part because some of the things that can get the entire case tossed literally can't be used if you represent yourself. The system is set up to heavily punish you if you try. It's interesting.

Oh man do I love this channel! Being a law student myself I'm just fascinated by practical examples and clear explanations like yours. Civil law system is pretty different, that's what makes this learning experience so interesting.
The bathroom scene was so good. The sleaziness and symbolism of the unkempt restroom with the dicey aspect of Jimmy's character and the whole process of convincing a jury (for better or worse) Was just ridiculously on point. I really wanted to be a lawyer as a child but didn't have the confidence, but as an adult seeing the salesperson like reality of what being a lawyer actually is, I want to give it another go. Thanks for the upload, watching your content actually makes me want to get started.
OBJECTION: Even with "permission" granted to the owners property a few things have to be established: 1. Legal deed (right of authority) 1a) Capacity to authorize rights of deed and ownership 2. Current dwelling or established occupancy rate 3. That "access" of said property does not unreasinably violate or perjur current legislation for deemed "usual & customary" for said access, as in; no criminal exploitations which would violate said owners "reasonable enjoyment" and wherein "consent" is not implied for forms of harassment, criminal infringments, exploitation. Example: you let a person on your property "to talk" to you as requested. They force your house door open, have a side arm in their hand fully loaded and the safety off while uttering a threat to use said firearm with "a lot of drama in front of your kids". This is where "consent" and "reasonable" crosses the bounds of harassment & assault, wherein; "ought to have known" the actions conducted upon "permitted access " violated the owners expectation and permissable legal conduct was extremely prejudicial.
The best scene, which takes place in a court room, is on Season 3 Episode 5 and is titled Chicanery. I don't want to spoil much for you, but I can't wait to see you dissect that episode.

Objection: The defense attorney cannot allude to punishment during his closing. Stating "ruing their bright young futures" is likely straying to close to the line
Wait, how can the defense not argue just what the impact of potential punishment would be? That is one of the cornerstones of criminal law, the balance between the interests of victim, society and perpetrator.
Just keep watching the show, it becomes far more legal based (and more character and less gross out) from season two onwards. The show is an absolute masterpiece (season one they were finding their feet), and you can’t really skip an episode, otherwise you’ll miss the deeper motivations behind actions.
Amen. I watched the first season, enjoyed it but completely forgot about it by the time season 2 came out and just lost interest. But after season 4 came out, I gave it another go starting from the start again. And honestly, this show may rival breaking bad in terms of writing. I do love the slow pace and slowly seeing characters turn on each other.
Season one felt a bit all over the place the first time I watched it. After watching the rest of the series, season one is somehow a lot better on re-watch. Amazing show, just as good as (maybe even better than) Breaking Bad.

I'm a big fan of both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. This is TV at its best! I just discovered your channel. I love learning about the law--I'm a jazz musician and college professor, and my best friend is a graduate of Stanford Law School and spent years as a corporate lawyer before she went to business school and eventually became a high level executive of a big company. She's the smartest person I know. But she doesn't like to talk about law-she says she doesn't know anything about litigation or criminal law. That's what I love about this show. The corners he cuts and the shady stuff he does is juxtaposed very well with the fact that he's clearly a very skilled as a lawyer. Another episode I'd recommend you review is the season 3 episode "chicanery"

A dead person can not be hurt. So, at worst, it was housebreaking, damage to property and necrophilia. With the later one being at least questionable, given a dead person ("a thing") can neither call out or have any objections.
He was always Jimmy, he changed his lawyer name to Saul Goodman because I think he found it more attractive in a matter of way because when someone hears Saul Goodman, unconsciently you hear "It's all good man", making you think that with this lawyer everything is gonna be okey. This was revealed on the last episode of season 4
I really enjoyed your breakdown, I spent 20 years at an insurance company working with our internal law dept, outside council and acting as an expert witness. As humorous, dark, sometimes weird as the show is, it gets so much right about a lot of the nuances it's just a pleasure to watch.
Dude, in the game Choices, book "Mother of the year", during a paternity battle for custody of a child, the mother has been framed for theft and can proof via CCTV that somebody stuffed her bag with illegal goodies. The judge could only slap her ( the woman who stuffed the defendants pockets yo frame her for theft) with a fine since it was not a criminal court. Is that true? Could you make a " choices gets layered" episode out of this? That would be fantastic.

A person that sells weed is most likely in a stance of protest against its prohibition. If he gets caught, it's only an opportunity for demonstrating how unnecessary the law is by showcasing that a person that sells weed is not a problematic person if not for the aforementioned prohibition. Now, this is only in a case of self motivated offense. But when do you also need a lawyer? When you're under false accusations, a personal attack, an intentional manipulation of the law that leaves you as the victim... All of these things require a lawyer.
I'm glad that you pointed out from a legal perspective what I as a layman, also gathered from this opening scene; that Jimmy (Saul) is actually a damn good lawyer who hits way above his weight and is never appreciated for his genuine skill.

I caught a municipal court judge in NJ taking his formal looking judge's robe off post trial. That guy had nothing but a Jimmy Buffet concert tee and tighty whiteys on under that shit lol. He was unshaved, and looked like he just woke up and drove to work without any hygiene routine whatsoever. I looked it up, the average judges salary in NJ is between 183, and 205 k/yr. Add the kickbacks he probably gets from prisons to lock up as many people as possible, and he gets plenty of money not to look like a homeless guy they found in Penn station and put a judges robe on his stank ass. He looked soo miserable too, I couldn't help but think about what a tough life the poor guy must have. Showing up for ,"work"' as late as he wants, and he was at least 90 min late every day. Then he has to pass judgement on others and fine the shit out of them, lock them up or both, while being as condescending, and disgusted with them as possible. I know they worked hard to get where they are, and he'd probably make more as a defense attorney, but all he has to do is work 2 or 3 times a week tops for maybe 3 hours. Plus it's not really work, there's no labor at all, and he has clerks to do all his paperwork. He just reads conditions, and fines right off a script. 999 out of a 1000 people would trade jobs in a heartbeat. Cops are the same way, the poor guys have to drive around and harass folks who kiss their ass all day. Probably once a day they get to arrest someone for a unpaid ticket warrant, or possession. Then they act like their life is on the line all day every day when 99% of them patrol really nice areas, or highways. My small town has over 70 of the pigs, while Camden, Trenton, and Newark have a handful. Camden has spots so bad cops, and ambulances won't even go there or they will get jacked for their whip. Imagine calling 911 cuz your having a heart attack, and they tell you to walk a few blocks over cuz they're shook to go into your hood. They should definitely take half the cops from the rich, crime free areas of NJ where there not needed and put them in the hood.

I'm a bit late here, but if you revisit this series, S3 E5 "Chicanery" would be a good one to review. Pretty much the whole episode is in a courtroom, and it's especially good if you've watched the whole series up until that point.

Objection: Goodman makes his closing argument _before_ the prosecutor shows the video, which serves as his closing argument. In a trial, the prosecution always goes first. If the prosecutor wanted to show a video for his closing argument, it should have come before, allowing Goodman to respond to it. (This is the only error I saw, and I'm guessing it's what brought the final grade down from an A to an A-)
Overruled - In most jurisdictions, the government gets the last word because they carry the burden. I'm pretty sure New Mexico is like this or would have been like this at the time. Some jurisdictions recognize that this is unfair, given the power of the State and have reversed the order. In Federal Court, the prosecutor closes, then the defendant, but then the prosecutor has an opportunity to reply to the defendant's close.

Oh man do I love this channel! Being a law student myself I'm just fascinated by practical examples and clear explanations like yours. Civil law system is pretty different, that's what makes this learning experience so interesting.

The bathroom scene was so good. The sleaziness and symbolism of the unkempt restroom with the dicey aspect of Jimmy's character and the whole process of convincing a jury (for better or worse) Was just ridiculously on point.
I really wanted to be a lawyer as a child but didn't have the confidence, but as an adult seeing the salesperson like reality of what being a lawyer actually is, I want to give it another go.

OBJECTION: Even with "permission" granted to the owners property a few things have to be established:
1. Legal deed (right of authority)
1a) Capacity to authorize rights of deed and ownership
2. Current dwelling or established occupancy rate
3. That "access" of said property does not unreasinably violate or perjur current legislation for deemed "usual & customary" for said access, as in; no criminal exploitations which would violate said owners "reasonable enjoyment" and wherein "consent" is not implied for forms of harassment, criminal infringments, exploitation.
Example: you let a person on your property "to talk" to you as requested. They force your house door open, have a side arm in their hand fully loaded and the safety off while uttering a threat to use said firearm with "a lot of drama in front of your kids". This is where "consent" and "reasonable" crosses the bounds of harassment & assault, wherein; "ought to have known" the actions conducted upon "permitted access " violated the owners expectation and permissable legal conduct was extremely prejudicial.

Almost vague enough, the judge might allow it.
Wait, how can the defense not argue just what the impact of potential punishment would be? That is one of the cornerstones of criminal law, the balance between the interests of victim, society and perpetrator.

Just keep watching the show, it becomes far more legal based (and more character and less gross out) from season two onwards. The show is an absolute masterpiece (season one they were finding their feet), and you can’t really skip an episode, otherwise you’ll miss the deeper motivations behind actions.
Amen. I watched the first season, enjoyed it but completely forgot about it by the time season 2 came out and just lost interest. But after season 4 came out, I gave it another go starting from the start again. And honestly, this show may rival breaking bad in terms of writing. I do love the slow pace and slowly seeing characters turn on each other.

I love learning about the law--I'm a jazz musician and college professor, and my best friend is a graduate of Stanford Law School and spent years as a corporate lawyer before she went to business school and eventually became a high level executive of a big company. She's the smartest person I know. But she doesn't like to talk about law-she says she doesn't know anything about litigation or criminal law. I really enjoyed your breakdown, I spent 20 years at an insurance company working with our internal law dept, outside council and acting as an expert witness. As humorous, dark, sometimes weird as the show is, it gets so much right about a lot of the nuances it's just a pleasure to watch.
Dude, in the game Choices, book "Mother of the year", during a paternity battle for custody of a child, the mother has been framed for theft and can proof via CCTV that somebody stuffed her bag with illegal goodies.
The judge could only slap her ( the woman who stuffed the defendants pockets yo frame her for theft) with a fine since it was not a criminal court. Is that true? Could you make a " choices gets layered" episode out of this? That would be fantastic.

A person that sells weed is most likely in a stance of protest against its prohibition. If he gets caught, it's only an opportunity for demonstrating how unnecessary the law is by showcasing that a person that sells weed is not a problematic person if not for the aforementioned prohibition.
Now, this is only in a case of self motivated offense. But when do you also need a lawyer? When you're under false accusations, a personal attack, an intentional manipulation of the law that leaves you as the victim... All of these things require a lawyer.
