      @CycloneFox 6 years ago +182

      @alski200 Six Feet Under (which is a show I totally enjoyed and loved) had something in their DVD extra stuff where they interviewed actual undertakers who talked about the show. Obviously in contrast to independent RUclipsrs, they could just cherry-pick. But at least from what I learned there, Six Feet Under totally made sure to portray the life at such a funeral home and the professional materials and work and stuff as genuine as possible.

      @scottmatheson3346 Apples and oranges. You are explicitly informed and must provide signed consent. Also, you can do your research before going in and know that if you chose to go to an academic institution they are going to, well, teach.

    • @jena.alexia
      @jena.alexia Year ago +11

      @scottmatheson3346I've had doctor's consultations where they have asked if it's OK for student or first year doctors to observe. I don't mind. They have to learn somehow. Lawyer would be a bit different. Seeing a lawyer usually means you're going through something upsetting, distressing or embarrassing. I wouldn't mind if one or two law students sat in I suppose but not the professor's whole class.

    I can't believe how many comments are pointing out it's a TV show and not understanding that the point of videos like this is to teach those that want to learn more. We all know it's a TV show and doesn't need to be realistic, but it's interesting to learn more about how the legal system works. He's not criticising the show for choosing entertainment over realism, he's just using it as a way to teach people how real law works.

      Jessica that’s kind of how these types of videos go. Not sure what you were expecting exactly. The context clues in the title insinuates the content of the video. • @christinamansen8636
      @christinamansen8636 7 years ago +69

      I 100% agree with you, I was just saying that the entire show is basically about how she ruins her core student's lives and only wins cases by breaking the law instead of employing actual legal strategies. In fact, the show even goes out of it's way to show what a bad mentor she is by showing the core character's grades to be in the bottom 20% (or something I don't remember the exact figure) because they are so busy at her practice all the time but not actually learning anything.

    • @mwcshk113
      @mwcshk113 6 years ago +22

      @Yeux_Tristes calm down, I'm not here to debate about his critique of the show. I'm just saying the show is neither reality TV nor a documentary for a reason, its not something you'd look for if you want actual law accuracies, so to critique it for that matter doesnt really make sense or is at least necessary. Nonetheless, his professional insight is intuitive.

      Truth! This is a one episode review of a pilot. There are definitely better episodes he could've reviewed that are more legally accurate. But again, this is a pilot. Something created just to get the network to approve the actual show.

    • @LeeoJohnsonTV
      @LeeoJohnsonTV 5 years ago +10

      For instance, one of the first thing he pointed out was how Asher couldn't be an intern for a Chief Justice. What Legal Eagle does not know, is that Asher is the son of a federal judge. It's not unlikely that a his father wouldn't pull strings for him to intern for another federal judge. But since this is the pilot, a lot of these things are unrealistic to us, the viewer.

    • @nin2494
      @nin2494 6 years ago +101

      I’m pretty sure the amount of malpractice recognisable in this for an attorney would be like a doctor watching a show about a supposed medical professional who somehow got access and permission to perform several surgeries, botched a dozen of them (out of universe, but apparently in-universe the patient’s surgery is perfect because soap opera), teaches students as a professor in medical school, regularly have them handle real-time patients without proper sanitisation or procedure, and end up fine while romanticising and championing flaws that just shouldn’t exist in any drama show concerning these types of professions.
      *How to get away with inducing a pandemic*
      Also you’d have to be a good lawyer to let a client get away with murder, if anyone hired her they’d do nothing save for being convicted.

      Actually what he is saying ties in. If the prosecution can pick apart the defense, its the fastest way to get your client in jail. also if you are dismissed on the grounds of malpractice, all your cases would be reopened.

      Things get like that no matter what profession you're in. Mind you, I just laugh and move on when I see "acid" eating through concrete.
      For those interested: about the only thing I know of that can wreck concrete that bad, that fast, is chlorine trifluoride...which would ignite said concrete, burn it like wood, and produce clouds of gaseous hydrofluoric acid as a bonus. Hydrofluoric acid passes through most things, including skin and latex, and goes straight to attacking your bones. And that's assuming you don't breath it in and get your lungs melted for your trouble.
      Basically, it results in a painful, prolonged screaming death for anyone in range of the "smoke" it produces. Not fun! You can probably see why a certain German dictator from the 1940's was considering using it in anti-bunker shells. Never did use it, though. Thankfully.

Then we're going to throw the book out, and I'm going to teach you how to be a paramedic." Truer words. @salifusadat3002 drama can still be written more or less realistically, but it does come down to taste and what each viewer can accept and how easily they can suspend their disbelief.
      i'm kinda tired of BOTH of these arguments- saying "it's a bad dumb show and thus no one should watch it" like your taste is objective is Bad, but "it's fictional drama and thus it doesn't matter if it's unrealistic" also fails to take personal taste into account

      Daredevil, a show about a blind superhero is more realistic than How to Get Away with Murder.

      Can I file charges on Daredevils behalf? "How to get away ..."s Is using more fictional elements than they are, hence infringing on their trademark recipe. Just to have 'the judge' rule on the matter?

      He did not make an assumption. He made a speculation. It was qualified by the word "probably". Overruled! 😂

    • @moviemaker1986
      @moviemaker1986 7 years ago +3

      No, assumption means taking without much or any proof that a thing is true. Speculation means prior thinking or meditating on a subject before making a guess. Essentially, speculation means putting more logic or research behind an assumption. Still, both words deal with personal guesses, so the word "probably" gives no preference toward either term.
      I can't know how much evidence gathering and logic Legal Eagle used to support his claim that non lawyers wouldn't find that particular bit interesting, but unless you personally helped him craft this episode, neither can you. :) But from the time given to that guess (the single line and then dropped), I'm going with "assumption" as the correct term. Speculation would probably have more time devoted to it, or else why use logic or do research and not share it?
      Assumption is still the best term here. Objection sustained! 😂😂😂
