Remember how Alex Merulo wants to move the Tucson Roadrunners to Reno? Let's remember that Reno is only 45 minutes from South Tahoe, where the Knight Monsters will be already have a 2+ season head start.

ECHL teams often have silly names lol. We've got the Swamp Rabbits, the Ghost Pirates, Solar Bears, and now Knight Monsters. They're all ridiculous, and I love it lol.
@@STARPHASE Orlando Solar Bears might be one of my favorite team names/logos of all time. Also grew up following the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, so I can’t say much lol.

As a point of clarification, the Tucson Roadrunners >will< more to Reno, but have not, as of yet. They will at least play the 24-25 season in Tucson, and possibly 25-26, but will not move until there is an arena in Reno for them.
Alex Merulo will leave an established minor league market so that he can be in head-to-head competition with a team that's already established and has an affiliation with the most popular NHL franchise locally. That's pure genius right there.
I've never heard the phrase Knight Monsters ever. Two very weird things here. The fact someone thought of the name and also that it was agreed upon. Seriously
I saw it on r/hockey that other, better names were copyrighted by other teams (in other sports) hence why they went with that name

The Knight Monsters will be playing in Nevada, but with that being said their stadium is only about 100 yards from the California State Line.
And the Knight Monsters are closer to San Jose than they are Las Vegas.

Klee might be a good coach, but if he's making half the team miserable, what good is he to the franchise in the long term? I doubt Minnesota repeats as champs if he's ridiculing players & playing favorites.

Detroit went through it with Mike Babcock, when all his crap started to come out it was obviously a toxic and unprofessional environment and actually detrimental to the team. Taking ian white off the lidstrom pairing was motivated by anger and ruined a productive pairing.
Bill Foley also named his indoor football team the Vegas Knight Hawks. 🤷🏽♂️

I remember years ago, Mark Messier was part of the NY Rangers office training to be a GM. Imagine him as Oilers GM......or Mark Hunter who has a connection to Evan Bouchard

The problem with Bronze Knights is, what if the affiliation changes? It could, as Lake Tahoe is closer to the Sharks/Barracuda than it is the Golden and Silver Knights.
And the Roadrunners haven't gone anywhere yet. Hopefully they won't.

Sorry to hear about Minnesota. They were fun to watch this year and I'm looking forward to more. Hope Darwitz finds somewhere a new job and/or gets compensated (if it's proven not to have been her).
Reportedly she was offered other positions within the PWHL (as well as given the option to say she quit or to stay on until the official end of her contract in name only [be at the draft table but not allowed to actually do anything]) and she turned down all of this. Obviously we can't know anything for sure but if the PWHL is trying to get her to stay on elsewhere and is in general trying to save face about the firing, that doesn't point to her doing a bad job necessarily beyond clashing with a guy who originally applied for her job. Again, don't know.
What about the Black Knights?.. It's just a flesh wound..

The Vegas affiliate name seems too close to the Lake Erie/Cleveland Monsters. I know it is different, but that seems stepping on the main part of the team name for an already existing team. It seems legally wrong to have 2 affiliated monsters. This isn't Sesame Street.

I would’ve liked to see them continue the helmet motif, the T for Tahoe would integrate very naturally. That said the branding for TKM is very good in its own right, especially colours.

Thank you very much for the clarification on the Capitals Kuzy retention refund. Now, in my official capacity as armchair GM, I still say the Caps and Canes should sit on the money. Treat it as a gift. Although technically it doesn't really exist until they spend it so they'd be sitting on space.

Is there an arena in Stateline, NV? All I remember was the outdoor game on the golf course (the same one that was used for the American Century Celebrity event) that ended after midnight local time because the ice melted during the day.
The only arena I could think of in South Lake Tahoe is Tahoe blue event center

I can't be sure, but I think the whole 'Tahoe Knight Monsters' name is because they have different ownership? TBH, I'm okay with it. As soon as I saw the name (and knew that the Savannah Ghost Pirates' affiliation ended this past season) I figured--as many others down here in Vegas did--that Tahoe would be our new ECHL affiliate. Will miss the Ghost Pirates, but happy that all affiliates are in Nevada now. Plus the black and white jerseys are FIRE.

I do get that they wanted to have something of the Knights while still trying to appeal to locals who live near a big, notable lake. Does make for a silly name though.

Bronze Knights would have been better, but there is supposedly some kind of real monster in the lake ! (Amazing how this always happens with certain lakes in tourist destinations !) Also, on your last item: There are no Tim Horton's in Nevada. Really a shame - especially since there would be room to add one in Toshiba Plaza centralized between three casinos and the arena - what a money maker that could be !

The AHL already has the Cleveland Monsters, so another team with Monsters will be confusing. Why would you do that???
Based on most of the comments here, it's obvious that there's nothing more low effort and outrageously opinionated as fans arguing about team names.
If they wanted to tickle some history buffs, they could have called them the Bronze or Silver Shields

The big name players who are already extremely established and who Klee favors were willing to say they were fans of Klee. The players who made it clear they appreciated Darwitz and were disappointed with the firing were smaller players understandably unwilling to attach their names to their statements. Of course, we know what it can mean when it's only the big name players who want to praise a coach. So we'll see i guess.

Yeah as you said it was only the big name players backing the coach and putting their names behind it. Iirc least one or two lower tier players said anonymously how disappointed they were that Darwitz was fired. So it def wasn't unanimous support.

It's a tax write off. Besides, what else can they do, fly someone to Russia to get the money back? Also, we don't know for sure that 100% of the money came from Carolina. Washington retained 50%, so they could have paid half the bonus.
Roadrunners not being moved yet...got two years remaining on deal to play in Tucson...but once they have inevitably been moved to Reno Alex Murelo will have fulfilled his mission to destroy all professional hockey in Arizona
