    I think Gather Round is also a good format for teams to try new things as a couple have already done like Freo with the stealth

    Brisbane's away jumper has historical significance.
    When they play in Brisbane, it's their official home jumper.
    When they play away in Victoria, it's their Fitzroy Lions variant.
    When they play away against Gold Coast (and other teams to avoid clash), it's their Brisbane Bears variant.

      Its a perfect trifecta

      I didn't know that. Perhaps they should wear the gold Brisbane jumper from 1987 with the maroon triangle. It needs maroon shorts though. Same as Brisbane should consider having blue shorts as an option. They should never play Sydney or Suns in maroon shorts for instance.

      @@BDub2024 They do have Retro Round jumpers every 2nd year they change from an old Fitzroy to a old Bears jumper.
      But it is easy not to notice their main 3 jumpers and why the Lion becomes a different color and why the background is more lighter unless you were old enough to know what they were back in the 90s.

      @@TBoneTony AFL moving away from a lot of the retro stuff. Some clubs complained about teams switching their jumpers around too much. When you consider anzac, aboriginal, home, clash, pride, any other random minority group, it just causes confusion.

    • @TBoneTony

      @@BDub2024 True, it seems the ESG and DEI focused stuff has infected the AFL and I see stuff like this everywhere from Sport to Entertainment.
      I just want to watch a game of football, not to be reminded that if I don't believe a certain thing then I am vilified as a horrible person.
      Let fans enjoy sport the way it was, thus I support Retro Jumpers as well as Public Holiday events like ANZAC jerseys.
      But the way how the AFL has been virtue signaling to almost anything for any occasion, it is gonna split the community apart where a player isn't gonna be involved in a certain round because he/she doesn't believe in the message of the round.
      Let players play sport and if the jumper has a occasion, let it be Retro or Public Holiday and keep it simple.

    I would love a return of Geelong's Dark Blue jumper from 2008 they wear once against North Melbourne.
    If they can use that against other teams like Sydney and Gold Coast or even against Tazmania in future seasons, that would be nice to see.

      Geelong definitely need something new, their home guernsey is fine but it’s the only thing they wear these days

  • @BDub2024

    Eagles have played around with navy jumpers with yellow wings. Then put the white trim on the wing. Then put the striped jumper. Played around with navy when that became trendy. Now back to royal blue. I'd like them to experiment with the Wallabies gold orange and use that as an alternative jumper with blue wings (maybe even darker blue). Possibly wear gold-orange shorts too. Would provide an alternative. Too often they wear their yellow strip as an alternative but don't want to wear yellow shorts. They should as it looked pretty good in 1987 where you can see footage against Bulldogs online. But go for a darker gold-orange and it may sit better with the fans. The darker gold may sell more jumpers too. That's the thing with alternatives.

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 8 месяцев назад

    Interesting point about clash vs alternative. Alternative should be about selling merchandise and trialling a jumper that may end up being the main strip. Or perhaps has some historical importance. Clash needs to really consider the shorts that the side will be wearing and who they generally will be playing and what colour shorts they'll be wearing. It needs to consider the whole strip, but too often it doesn't. And you get the clash jumper with white shorts, and they play a team with a lot of white in their jumper. For instance why would Essendon wear white shorts if they're playing Collingwood Saints or Bulldogs for starters... or Sydney or Fremantle.

    For me, if the clubs want to make money, have a Home, Away and Clash Jumper, just like the oldish days.
    The Magpies wear their class jumper far too often, if they are they away team to the lions, giants, eagles, dockers, crows, kangaroos, demons, hawks, bulldogs and maybe the cats, then they should wear their AWAY jumper, if they are the away team against the power, saints, bombers, blues, tigers they wear their CLASH jumper, because those teams actually clash if you put their home and away jumpers together

    I think a all white Carlton uniform cover with mini monogram in a different shade of white won’t too bad

  • @BDub2024
    @BDub2024 8 месяцев назад

    You've got Mundy wearing the traditional alternative jumper for dockers. The crooked anchor. But in that jumper the colours are darker than the original strip. Freo as an alternative should look at lightning the purple and bringing in a lighter green and red. Its the traditional colours and also floats the lighter shade (which is the traditional shade) for the fans to mull over. In recent years the Dockers have got rid of normal purple green and red. And gone for dark purple and white and trialling black and grey in merchandise. So clubs can experiment with different shades and designs as alternatives, and if they work it can become a permanent clash or even the main strip.

    • @mattn1
      @mattn1  8 месяцев назад

      I definitely think Freo’s purple needs to move back towards a lighter shade, interestingly some of their 2024 training kits have some green and red trim, so it’s slowly working it’s way back in

      @@mattn1 Even when Freo wore their green jumper in heritage round the green and purple were far darker than the original one. I remember that Freo used to have an excellent light green one (almost sea green but lighter) that they wore for training in the 90s. Just green with a white anchor. they never wore it in a match. But it looked excellent. I always thought having differnt colours above the anchor didn't look that good. When they wore the purple jumper with white ancor with purple shorts, it looked like they were wearing bibs or their singlets were hanging out. Also the anchor looked more like a seagull. Freo got rid of all their maritime image now. Pity.

    I hate the Collingwood swooping magpie. I think if they want to play around they need to look at width and size of stripes. Even North play around with some pin stripes in the striped panels that look sensational.

    I would have two swooping magpie guernseys as a home and away and if we did bring it back bring out a white version of it but I’m sick of the AFL not having a away guernseys and clash guernseys as it’s too inconsistent and I love the black and white stripes but you can still have the stripes and the swooping magpie or normal magpie on the guernseys

    I've always said it, Geelong should just do what Collingwood North Melbourne (for a period) did and make their home jumper an inverse of their current one, making it predominantly navy blue. Then their current white jumper should be the away jumper. Idk making your home jumper white which has always been the "away" colour just doesn't seem right.

    • @liamjenkins244
      @liamjenkins244 8 месяцев назад

      But it hasn't always been the "away" colour
      Geelong as a club predates away jumpers existing
      If their home jumper has less clashes that's a good thing, they just need to have a good clash strip because the navy creates more issues than it solves
