This is the exotic that was sunset forever from Destiny! Icebreaker, the exotic sniper used for cheese, consistency, infinite ammo, and ultimate functionality! Icebreaker has a story of Destiny 1 vanilla and the sunrise bounty to bring it back. In Destiny 2, Icebreaker has never returned , making it sunset for good, or.. maybe it will return? Only one way to find out!

9:18 Thank god for that. It's not just me that thought the Strikes in D1 were a lot harder than they are in D2. Some of those were punishing even at a normal level. I do miss them, though, even if they were a bit bullet spongey.

Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

We've just become too powerful with both abilities and weapons. We just have so many better exotic armor, weapons and now fragments that make fights with bosses that much easier

The absolute only way that this sniper could return would be without infinite ammo. I could see a version of overflow, or kills reload it. So, getting kills would reload it up to the 6, but it can only hold 6. And picking up special would reload it.
Give it incandescent or chain reaction, and boom

Picking up special ammo fully reloads reseves(except pvp)
Chain reaction (probably catalyst)
Boom. Ice breaker is back

@@thecolorblack4778 Nah. Example, hawkmoon. One of the best HCs in the game, and it went from being a slot machine to a gun that rewards skilled play. The hawk still has personality. Bungie could make it work.

@@Noime556 I think they could change it where it only regenerates ammo while it’s equipped. Once you stow it it no longer regenerates, that’s for pve I have no clue what to do for pvp

Year 1 of D1 is still honestly the greatest experience I've ever experienced. I only wish I was my current age to be able to be more social for raids and nightfalls
Ice breaker can totally come back as kinetic primary, the exotic perk being that the weapon has no magazine and reloads steadily from reserves.

They should make it a stasis sniper and call it the "Ice Maker". Precision kills freeze nearby enemies.

I miss Icebreaker so much. It was one of my first exotics in D1, and got me through a lot of content. VoG Oracles, Nightfalls, PoE. Plus I love the sound of it.
Lucky. My first was patience and time lmao. I managed to get that thing around 40 times. I still haven't gotten a vex or even the handcannon from templar 😅

Probably ice breaker would only regenerate ammo after killing an opponent, but not the same in pvp, like that perk that regenerates your health after killing multiple enemies but instead of health its ammo, and a guardian kill would count as more than one kill, so i think it should work like that.
I'd say that's such a drastic departure from what ice breaker was, and would better serve as a brand new exotic instead.
@@papsi89 I agree. Let Icebreaker and Invective rest and pull a Crimson/Red Death. Maybe make a linear Fusion rifle replacement and have this Refill via kills perk and maybe have a lore or name to reference the Icebreaker in it something like "An attempt to recreate Icebreaker which was lost/destroyed during the Red War's invasion of the Tower incident." Not the best but at least a nod to the legacy.
Another idea. Make it stay a Solar weapon but give it the ammo regen via breaking stasis crystals. Example: break 3 crystals gat 1 ammo or something like that. Still have inf ammo but you have to build around it (saying this would be an interesting perk not necessarily use it on Icebreaker) this perk could work on a few weapons... Heck CALL THE PERK "Icebreaker 2.0" Or "Prototype ice pick"

I remember using Ice Breaker to glitch heavy ammo. What you'd do is run out of ammo with all your guns then switch to Ice Breaker. For basically every kill you'd get a heavy brick. Me and my friends would do this all the time for skolas.
D2 even had that "seeing someone destroy enemies with an exotic you have never seen before" at least for me. Since I didn't start playing until Beyond Light. I kinda regret watching a ton of youtube videos on the game in the early days. But I will always remember the first time I saw sleeper, acrius, anarchy, witherhoard, hell sunshot! I hadn't seen videos with these weapons yet so they blew my mind but unfortunately I started playing and because I joined a group of people, thanks to my co-worker, who were alreayd years deep into the game I had to do some catch up so my free time was spent watching D2 stuff... hell it still is lol.
And now year 1 is entirely gone and bungie is already rereleasimg destiny 2 exotics.
Honestly, it could work like super regen does. Where it regenerates very slowly on its own, but would regenerate faster with kills by other weapons.
It could be like dynamic charge for symmetry but for different wepons then once you reach 20 you get 4 bullets
I absolutely love this series, the nostalgia is so unreal! Now we just need a Necrochasm video and that'll cover all of Destiny 1's raid exotics!(excluding the elemental primaries of course)

A fun story i have with this weapon. I was the first to get it in my friend group around the second week of Destiny. It was so good that people couldn’t complete nightfalls without me in their parties. One guy sent me Xbox gift cards to run him through it (even though I didn’t ask.) I literally made money from Destiny because I had Icebreaker
Icebreaker was and is my favorite exotic I've ever had. It had, by far, the most usage out of any exotic I had in D1.
When he talked about oracles and the nexus strike boss and sitting up top, memories flooded in from my younger self in the 6th grade

Icebreaker was honestly just good ol’ reliable, making special ammo from air is just chefs kiss. Even if all other exotics got merged, you can always trust good old Icebreaker
I miss this thing, it helped me solo so much. I really, REALLY miss strikes and other activities that you could do solo with a lot of effort. Now I pretty much HAVE to have a fireteam to play anything fun.
Speaking to the start, with exotic drops not hitting the same anymore. I think a big problem is that there is only a few new exotics added with the new expansions, and the ones that are added are only dropping from legend lost sectors or finishing the campaign. I would love to see a bunch of new exotics added that can drop randomly, even if they are old D1 exotics.

I remember my excitement getting my first exotic. I woke the whole house up. Plan C. Used the heck out of that gun. Before D2 nerfed backup plan, my Erentil with moving target felt close.

I feel like the only way they could bring it back with some part of its past is doing a battery type reload and make it regenerate stored ammo at a extremely slow rate like 1 bullet every 20-30 seconds that way its infinite ammo but basically not really super abusable in crucible but still a good option still leaving it solar and 6 mag would be a must to but it can’t be a gun that doesn’t reload anymore that alone is to broken

Ice breaker is my all time favorite gun and my first exotic. Man this gun was amazing.
If you wanted to get deadeye you can just use miss all your shots but land a few of them and still have max ammo
Two notes: I'm tired of this frequently stated lie that Revoker rewarded missed shots. It *forgave* missed shots. Huge difference.
Also, I think it might have been good if you touched on the first time Xur sold Ice Breaker. Not only was that an exciting weekend, but it totally divided the community and was the absolute peak of the "Earned versus Xurned" arguments that flooded the forums in year 1 of Destiny.
That being said, love that you finally talked about this legend. These videos are terrific!
I can see why people use the word "rewarded" though. With revoker there was never a reason NOT to take the shot. It you missed entirely you got the bullet back, if you bodied you did a ton of damage that could be cleaned up by a teammate easily, or you killed them with a headshot. The gameplay doesn't "reward" missed shots technically, but rather every shot you take is rewarded with either damage dealt or your bullet back.

I think if it comes back it should have reconstruction basically but with a catalyst that somehow enhances it

ICEbreaker was the first exotic i ever got and it was a saving grace. After playing witch queen legendary i got a glimpse of what d1 difficulty was, just alot of shooting things till the eventually die
Nothing but good memories with this gun. Got me through solo nightfalls when all my friends moved on to different games and it made exotic quests like the one for Thorn pretty easy.
I have to agree, Evan. Icebreaker should not return to D2 and should stay in D1, the idea of a sniper that can regenerate ammo from nothing coming to Destiny 2 would make the crucible more of a pain to play than how it is now.
Turns off perk for crucible... problem fixed.

I remember good ole valus. I miss that feeling from nightfalls. Overwhelming odds leading to barely inching out victories.
I also remember the day I fundamentally changed the way I looked at nightfalls. Me and the boys with our fresh pairs of the peregrine grieves and that nightfall with a particular set of perks.
Airborne, brawler, and arc burn..
Valus died that day in about 5 seconds after spawning. Over and over for hours on end. Good times.
I also remember the 2nd attempt at the omnigul strike where we figured out 3 hunters could insta kill her at first sight. My disappointment when the strike kept going was immeasurable. 😕
Ice Breaker was my first exotic weapon drop and I remember being so excited when I got it and figuring out how it worked. I built a play style very early in D1 around snipers because of IB and I still use that similar style / build in D2 to this day at times.
This was the gun I remember chasing as I first started playing, the idea of having unlimited ammo was the most enticing thing to me. Those were some fun memories
I know it'll never happen in a million years but I'd love a relaunch where they just call it destiny and make all the content from d1 and d2 available and just download what you want to play instead of removing it from the game

I was the ice breaker god in Destiny 1 for trials of Osiris. The head shot stickiness on it made it by far my favorite video game sniper rifle of all time
If Ice Breaker were to return, I feel like it would've been during Whisper's Prime.
Ice Breaker as it existed in D1...even post nerf will NEVER exist in D2. It'll have to have an entirely different identity that essentially makes it a different gun. But then...it's not Ice Breaker.
It and Pocket Infinity will forever be timelocked in D1.

I didn't play D1 for very long, but Ice Breaker was the only exotic I ever had. Didn't know at the time how important it really was.

I have a feeling there’s a really big crossover between Destiny fans and Cod Zombies fans. They’re the two franchises I’ve played the most by ak no stretch so I can wait for the new series!

Evan didn't want ghorn to return either and bungie made it work. D1 ice breaker would be underpowered in D2, so bungie could easily bring it back and make it even better. I'd personally like to see it come back as a power weapon.
It should be back but with a change, like you have to completely get rid of grenade or melee regeneration to activate its perk to regenerate ammo, and disable it at will to get those abilities back based on how many kills you get, like a sniper version of traveller's chosen. That would open a door to balance it out in some way.

Ahhh Icebreaker. Brings back memories since it was my very first exotic, I got it after a random crucible match! Was so stoked haha! Like you said, it was my go to on solo nightfalls. Man I would like to see this epic weapon back. D1, good times...
I think icebreaker coming back to D2 wouldn't be remotely as broken as a lot of people think it would be, specifically because like you mentioned, D2 is a different game. one ammo regenerating every few seconds isn't a huge deal in D2, especially if you still acn't reload it and all that. There may be a few strike bosses or something where you could sit around and wittle a boss down, but D2 leans so heavy on time and wipe mechanics, it wouldn't even be useful most of the time. PvP they could just turn off ammo regen.
my first exotic. i saw xur randomly in the tower while walking around, i had no idea who he was. curious, i checked his inventory. ice breaker. it looked so sexy, and somehow i had enough of a seemingly useless (and rather strange) currency saved up to buy it. took that thing into the strikes playlist to test it out, fell in love, and the rest is history.
I remember everyone sitting on the ledge with their ice breakers taking out oracles and the Templar, it was so crisp in end game and pvp.
It'd be nice to have an display case in the Tower, maybe near Zavala's office, that houses all the exotic weapons. Kinda like a trophy case and a way to honor the past weapons.

Even at the end of Destiny 1, that exotic drop was amazing. Also wasn't till then that I got Mythoclast
If they bring it back, it could be a primary ammo sniper a-la fighting lion. That way it could have infinite ammo and still be able to be balanced around and still be viable in end-game content.
Ice Breaker was my first exotic that i bought from Xur i didnt realize what i had until i entered Vault of Glass for the first time and was followed by ThunderLord and Vex Mythoclast in the same run. This thing needs to be appreciated more I dont think it will come back but maybe we can dream 😭
I have a 3d printed version of this that I bought from a convention but the person that made it painted it like the ornament, it’s one of my favorite things I own even with the bad paint job
One of my favorite exotics. I still think that it had one of the best shooting noises in the game, so bad ass.
This was my first exotic ever in this franchise. This gun was really "Ole Reliable" like on Winter's Run I was on sniper duty on "Pride Rock"
I remember how I got my Icebreaker. I got it from my first run of the Prison of Elders. (Remember PoE would guarantee an exotic drop on your first run with any character. Or account, I don't remember it's been 8 years after all.)

As someone that got Gjallahorn as their first exotic... it was the Ice Breaker that eluded me, and the Ice Breaker that once finally gotten was the best exotic to have.
And the poor schmuck that got the Monte Carlo in the video... that "ohhh" probably quickly turned to "fffffuuuuddge"... Christmas Story style.
This gun eluded me for so long and then xur sold it. The xur line up was crazy, all the way out to the tower but we’ll worth it.

Fun fact, when Bungie Studio reopens, there should still be an Icebreaker made of legos in their studio trophy case. I do have a picture of the old case but I dont know if it will return when the studio reopens

Ice breaker holds a special place in my heart because it was my first exotic. I remember I was playing crucible on the map bastion when I got it. I was only 9-10 at the time I never watched RUclips videos on destiny so I had no idea what it was but I fell in love with the gun once I put it on. I still have it sitting in my D1 vault to this day sometimes I’ll hop on D1 just to experience to sound and feel the icebreaker had.
Hear me out, it comes back as a linear fusion rifle. I would only allow it to have one in the mag that steadily charges as the trigger is held, and fires when released. Make it deal 3x damage to stasis affected targets too
It was my 1st exotic drop in D1. A lot of memories with it.
So weird to think that Destiny had the draw that Ninja and Tfue before their Fortnite and COD days were Destiny guys.

I miss my Ice Breaker it was my baby, only sniper to replace my Steelpiercer, I wish they would bring back class specific guns again too those were so fun.
To return in D2 it could be tied to primary ammo kills. PvP for example, every 2 primary kills load 1 round into IB. And then just not cap the amount of bullets it can hold. So as long as you get primary kills, more in PvE, you have unlimited sniper ammo..

I think I know a way icebreaker can come back (the ammo economy part), but it will need to work differently on pvp and pve.
Base/pvp: its basically a solar special agressive frame sniper with Incandencent, Overflow (6 shots) and that Revoker perk, but with no reserves. So it doesn't need to reload.
Pve: Same as base + it regenerates the top half of the magazine. You'll need to keep 3 ammo on the mag to keep it infinite.
*Probably it can still work in pvp but less powerfull, like regenerating only the 6th bullet.
Bungie is already developing pve in D2 taking care with infinite ammo, because primary ammo already is unlimited. So they wouldn't have more work testing because of Icebreaker.
