Perhaps it's a bit like in the show when they spread this myth about Silver? If Toby Schmitz show up he could only dissapoint.

Wow, it’s like they went far out to make Elanore look sexy in the show in comparison to real life, and they did the exact opposite with max. She somehow looks even more exotic and sexy IRL than in the show

What sucked about season 3 is they let a whore and a swag seller all of a sudden become military tacticians and psychologist against seasoned battle tested pirates some have been trained by a ex naval officer (Flint). Why would they even write that into the script? Max's voice turns my stomach and her part is too pretentious(over acting) and too unreal so was eleanor's part.
Well if you consider aspects of Caribbean history, chiefly Jamaica, there are some pretty notable Women who outsmarted British commanders and lead many "Men" to victory.
The show takes license with how it wishes to employ historical events but nonetheless, the writing speaks true of the time and serves as a metaphor for 'survival of the fittest.'
If you've been fucked and raped as much as Max has, I'd wager you'd learn to adapt pretty damn fast.
